Ok let’s talk about traffic circles. The problem is that most drivers don’t know how to signal correctly when entering a traffic circle. If you are going to straight ahead you don’t signal,however if you are going around the circle to turn to the left you must signal with your left turn signal. If you are turning right (the first exit ) then you must signal right. If you are in a circle and not signalling you are by default indicating that you are going to straight ahead (usually the second exit) It would be intelligent for ICBC to run a few ads explaining to drivers how traffic circles work .

You should do a compilation series on crazy antics in confusing parking lots; call it Vancouver's Worst Parking Lots. Take suggestions in these comments, and why certain lots suck. Metrotown would be one. That T&T plaza parking on 1st & Renfrew another. The worst I know is the parking for the SDM / IGA / Tim Hortons on Esplanade in North Van. Narrow stalls, weirdly placed pillars, overly tight turns, and now there is a bike lane on the street in front so even the access in and out of it is tricky. (And the punchline? It's PAY parking.)

3:46 the guy speeding would be more at fault as in BC the yellow light means slow down to stop, the person making the left has the right to clear the intersection before anyone else enters it. Also to note, in the BC safe driving guide if there is a car making a left in an intersection before another driver reaches that intersection the left turn driver has right-of-way. That reminds me, I should go the the BC services centre to pick up a new BC safe drivers guide book to re-read it to see if anything has changed. Driving tip: If you can see the back of your car in your side view mirror those mirrors should probably be adjusted outwards, when was the last time the rear of your own vehicle hit you?
@t198902042 ай бұрын
Its not about whos at fault in court. You can be dead standing on your right of way. That's why its call defensive driving, don't assume everyone will slow down.
@wyldhowl28212 ай бұрын
I do not know who taught you that. The assertion " the person making the left has the *right* to clear the intersection before anyone else enters it." is 100% factually incorrect. Turning traffic never has the "right" to turn overriding traffic going straight through, unless some sign says that specifically (which is ultra rare). You can only turn across a stream of traffic when it is safe to do so. Right of way is always prioritized as follows: 1 - Traffic going straight through (on green or yellow) 1B - Pedestrians crossing when the light is in their favor (basically the same as straight traffic, but on the sidewalk) 2 - Cars turning right on a green or even a yellow. 3 - Cars turning left (across the stream of traffic) on a green or a late yellow - or on red but only to clear the intersection for the cross traffic. 4 - A car turning left might have priority over a car turning right into the same street on a red, but that is only because the left is clearing the intersection, while the right turn can just stop & wait for the opportunity. The only situation in which a left turning car has to turn is to clear the intersection it is already in, and even then it cannot turn unless it is safe to turn. A straight-going red light runner should not be in the intersection at all, but it is *still* the left turner's responsibility to only turn if it is confirmed safe. The other car being in the wrong on the light condition does not void your responsibility to wait until they have passed by.

0:21 Lets take one of the least nimble modes of transportation, the top-heavy SUV, and pretend we're Mario Andretti. "You can have your license back in a year after you pass a comprehensive driving test." Me, if I was in charge. 0:58 I know it's not always possible, but try to be clear of semi trucks. Either don't pass them, or pass them quickly and GTF out of their way so this doesn't happen. 1:43 The cyclist shouldn't have been bombing down the middle of the road like that anyway. 2:07 Wait, they made contact? HOW?! HOW did the dash cam driver not see the basic physics involved with "welp, this driver is clearly not going to stop at the speed they're going..." ? 2:43 "You can have your drivers license back after passing this comprehensive driving test." 3:07 I'm not sure what happened in the past few years, but every time I see a driver behaving badly, a lot of the time they have that same logo on the front/back of their car, for some odd reason.... 3:49 The guy turning left should be able to go, albeit a late left... Speeding through an intersection is stupid 100% of the time, but add another 99% on top of that for chasing a late yellow while clearly seeing someone is trying to turn left. 4:20 Remember folks, if you F-up like this in 2024 and beyond, there's likely a camera within viewing distance of your plates. 5:57 WOW. That simply never happens enough... That exact scenario. 6:29 That's an excellent example of the dash cam driver being prepared.. Hey man, be more careful.

These videos are a prime example of the "WHY" that ICBC(insurance corporation of British Columbia) had No Choice but to change to "NO FAULT" Car Insurance in B.C. Its plain to see that theres not a lot of Driver Comprehension about the common rules in driving.
@wyldhowl28212 ай бұрын
They had to do it because of ambulance-chasing lawyers trying to run up the costs & claims, particularly on phony claims of injury, including "mental injury" which cannot actually be measured or proven. When lawyers here adopted those US-based practices of using lawsuits as a money maker, ICBC had to go to no-fault or it would bankrupt the whole system. Personally, I still want to see fault (shitty driving) punished in some way, but perhaps that should be something not part of ICBC's insurance system. For example, if there is evidence you broke the law and caused an accident, you should be hit with fines (not just dinged on insurance). Dashcams should be allowed as evidence of crimes that citizens can prompt police investigations over, something which is quite rare at the moment. The fact that punishment is so rare is why shitty dangerous driving proliferates. Speeding is quantifiable with an instrument (a laser or radar speed measurement), so it traditionally has more confidence in a court situation, but dashcams have changed the game and should prompt much more ticketing of red light running, unsafe lane changes, turns & merges, and wrong-way driving. Special police units to catch things other than just speeding should be roaming all over in unmarked vehicles, recording everything they see, and ticketing any acts of stupidity they witness.

I predict that you'll be getting more Uber drivers on your channel. Often, when you are driving for Uber, you get a ride request in which you find you have to make a sudden lane change/turn in order to pick them up. Eg. You are driving east on Kingsway in the right lane, get a request, and the directions require a left turn at the next rapidly approaching intersection. It does make for some unpredictable driving patterns.

5:03 This is why front labels are necessary though #BC needs to loosen label requirements so sticker plate-sized labels like what #California legalized can address some front label concerns. Vehicle enthusiasts that want front label requirements eliminated, they want not only their driving endanger pedestrians and other road users but also let agents from hostile countries (e.g. #CCPChina, #Iran’s #IRGC (Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, etc.), etc.) do whatever they like (e.g. the illegal 🇨🇳 police stations in #Québec, 🇨🇳 government interference in #cdnpoli, etc.) at the expense of dissidents.

I don't know what your "hostile countries" stuff is coming from. (The IGRC & Hezbollah & Hamas are not countries, they get no special privileges, especially with regard to driving. ACTUAL foreign countries can have consular plates, usually red in colour.) I agree about the front plates & labels issue, and BC should make it mandatory , but the uncooperative outlier within Canada is Alberta, which does not require front plates (possibly does not even issue them at all).
@ostkkfmhtsh0123456782 ай бұрын
@@wyldhowl2821 I only specified agents (does not necessarily mean government agents) from hostile countries NOT foreign government agents. While it’s true foreign government officials have consular plates, that doesn’t mean spies have their own designated plates especially when using tactics to blend into societies. Also, it doesn’t mean much when such officials and agents aren’t required to display a front plate. Regarding no front label outliers, I heard NW and Yukon Territories, Nunavut, #Québec, Nova Scotia, and other provinces also don’t require front plates for most classes of vehicles like #Alberta. I heard only #BC, #Ontario, and Manitoba are the only provinces that require front plates. If I try to share links here for clarifications, depending on comment section, my comment could disappear. Anyway, regardless, there are multiple reasons why front labels needs to become standard across #Canada and the #US once again.

1:30 Cyclist is DEFINITELY at fault. Stop the video just after it starts and you can see the cyclist is completely over on the wrong side of the road, about 1m over from the curb on the opposing side. The road is unmarked, but when that happens you are still supposed to keep to the proper half of it, not down the middle and definitely not on the opposing half. 3:40, the guy speeding through is on late yellow, though speeding, but he gets through the intersection before it is red (which is normal). The guy turning left should not have cut in until he knew the guy was going to stop or not (minor mistake), but he didn't commit to the turn which would have caused a collision if he had not stopped - again, normal. A close call, but typical situation & not an accident, demonstrating why the turning vehicle should *never* assume what the coming vehicle is going to do and only start to turn across traffic after it has either stopped or cleared the intersection. 4:05 - poor raccoons. I once hit a mother raccoon leading her babies across hwy 1/99 in W Van. Came around a turn at 90 and they were crossing just after the apex of the corner; there was nothing I could do but try to put the raccoon between the wheels rather than under them. Still, it was at high speed with a low-clearance vehicle. 😢 7:40 - That behavior is called the "Calgary crawl".

And the car is in the middle of the road. They are both at fault.

@wyldhowl28212 ай бұрын
@@briannyob7799 The dashcam car is clearly over to the right. Look at exactly 1:29 - the darker grey patch you are seeing to the right of the car is undefined dirt / gravel "sidewalk", not road. This means the car is on the right half of the roadway as it should be (not in the middle). At 1:30 you see the cyclist entering view from the left roadway, but clearly way over to the wrong side of that roadway (like 1m from the wrong curb by the hedged house, 3x to 4x further from the parked van on the downhill side of the road). The dashcam vehicle is starting his left turn where expected, the cyclist starts to cut to the opposite direction but starting from the wrong side of the road, and even by 1:32 it is clear that the cyclist is still more on the opposed side of the road than the correct side, which is why he is matching up with the center of the dashcam vehicle. The. Cyclist. Is. At. Fault.

@wyldhowl2821 The car was moving from the narrow part of the road to the wider part of the road and should be far more to the right. The cyclist was moving from the wider part of the road to the narrower part of the road. They are both at fault. The car isn't over to the right when it is stopped. It is in the middle of the much wider road.

many of the people filming your videos are terrible drivers themselves. having lived all over the country the worst drivers are here in vancouver. the number 1 problem/bad driving habit in vancouver is SLOW DRIVERS not moving over to let faster traffic pass on the right on the number 1 highway. It's insane. teslas and evo's are the worst drivers in vancouver as a group. perhaps a lot of these people learned to drive in other countries and that is why it is so bad here? it only gets worse as time goes by...

5:38 Drivers like the dashcammer who don't defensively move over to the left lane on seeing a car on the onramp just make it dangerous all around. It's not gonna kill anyone to slow down, move over if possible, give space, then merge back in later on - and might save a few lives and fenders.
@wyldhowl28212 ай бұрын
Drivers should be more wary of merging traffic, and a bit courteous, but merging traffic is still required to look first and only enter when it is safe to do so. You cannot force another car already in the stream of traffic to change lanes or brake so that you can merge whenever you want to.

@@wyldhowl2821 Granted, but there's a thing called basic courtesy. When I was in the USA, I almost always saw drivers moving to the left lane near onramps to give space to merging drivers where practical.
