The power to draw in wrestling is arguably more important than any other factor. Being an attraction that people dish out their hard-earned money to see, being the reason why they tune in, the reason why the company turns a profit and increases its reach are all qualities of a successful draw. throughout the years the wrestling world has seen a ton of box office draws from Andre & Hogan to Stone Cold and the Rock, but who is the biggest draw of all time and why?
In this video, we take a look at just who is the biggest draw in wrestling history.

It all comes down to the era we're talking about. Hulk Hogan was the biggest draw of the 80's and 90's. The Rock and Stone Cold were the biggest draws of the Attitude Era, John Cena, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker were the biggest draws of the Ruthless Aggression Era and Roman Reigns is the biggest draw of the PG Era. They all played a major role in the growth of the sports entertainment industry.

Agreed. People have to realize each person stood on the shoulders of each individual, who made the business as big as it became. It is baffling, when people would state if Steve Austin stayed in WCW, then WCW would have won the war over the WWF. They act like the Stone Cold persona would have somehow been created in WCW and the entire Attitude Era would have taken place there.

John cena outsold those two on merchandise sales and was the box office attraction longer then those two. U should not put roman's name next to john cena. John made it big on his own without being the rock's cousin and he wasn't suppose to the face from the begining. They tried wirh orton , Batista and many more bt John naturally became the biggest star in wwe. Austin had HBK and the rock bt john did it own his own. @@jobaerbhuiyan6501 Why don’t ppl read for comprehension. I said Rock & Stone cold paved the way for the next superstar to have that ability. John Cena became a draw in a time of Zero Competition. Of course Cena outsold them because in his era of u wanted to watch wrestling you had to watch WWE. There was no other legit brands available. He was the product of A Branding Monopoly. Also Randy and Batista where Not Good Baby Faces but they made Good Heels for Cena. Cena was decent but was really the Rock and Hulk Hogan Mixed together. Rock/Stone literally came up in a Monday Night War fought to make WWF the Publically trade WWE brand they where so good together they literally bankrupt the bigger competitor a brand that had the deepest pockets Ted Turner. They not only had to fight against there own superstars they had to night after night beat Sting/Macho Man/Nash/Hall/DDp & Hulk Hogan every night and did it! Any baby face can become the biggest draw with no competition I mentioned Roman because he also had that push. Being Rocky’s cousin didn’t stop him from being booed night after night so I’m not sure why u bring that up. But bothRoman and Cena benefited from all the work of the Attitude era to be able to be decent company faces.

@@PharoahTheGoldX Your not getting the point. Your saying rock and Austin paved the way for cena when they left but they left and wwe was in a critical condition and cena was not getting pushed Orton Batista and Brock was. Cena had no one to help him not evolution, no Paul heyman, not being Rocks cousin, he didn’t have a wrestling family and didn’t have other rivalries he can build it. Cena did it on his own he naturally became the face of wwe no one paved the way for him now Roman maybe yes because he has a whole family background but cena did it on his own. He made stars, he put talent over for example edge, when edge was mid carding in the attitude era while rock and Austin was on top a few years later when cena was the wwe champion he said let edge cash it on me let him be wwe champion. Cena not only put over edge, he put over Orton, sheamus, Punk, Bryan, Aj, Ko, Nakurma, Zigler, and many more. He also was willing to get squashed by undertaker at wrestlemania 34 and take 16 suplex from Brock. Cena has given back to wwe more with putting guys over, making wwe more money, making more merchandise sales and being a longer attraction and face of wwe longer than anyone else in WWE. Has over 650+ make a wish and now being in Hollywood being in big roles and being successful at it he still came back to wwe over the summer and did dark matches and house shows and tickets sales went up and merchandise sales were high because Cena returned and he put Roman over again!!! No one has the work ethic like John from jobbing, about to be fired, no one giving him a chance they were looking at Orton and Batista before him to be the next guy but cena outshine them all and became the franchise the doctor of thuganomics HLR the face of wwe longer than anyone big match John Felix Anthony Cena!!!

Honestly I’d have to say in terms of overall impact on the product, merch moving, longevity, and the ability to be a mainstream star, John Cena has to be the biggest draw of all time. Love him or hate him, John Cena did numbers no one else has, he carried the WWE during an era that took place in an ever changing time when it comes to ratings and television viewership, and his ability to have big matches with almost anyone coupled in with just how charitable he was with Make a Wish and everything else he’s done. The actual biggest draw in wrestling history is actually Jim Londos. He was the top drawing wrestler from 1926-1928, 1930-1934 and 1937-1940. That's 13 years as the top drawing wrestler in the world. Back then they didn't have as many large stadiums as they do now, so he would sell out baseball stadiums. In 1934 he drew 100,000 people to the Athens Olympic Stadium, and they had to turn away another 30,000 attendees. It is reported he drew roughly $5 million in his prime. Now you might not think that's nothing today. You might say the Rock worst film grossed at least 4 times that, but you got to realize this was during the great depression. $5 M. in the great depression. If you account for inflation today's value that's roughly $90,000,000. No other wrestler in history compares to the "Golden Greek" Jim Londos. Edit: I wrote this comment before I saw the video, so yeah It's all included in there. My bad.

For those that pick Austin he definitely a solid choice. But me personally as someone who watched since Hulkamania til now with Roman Reigns I'd say its Hulk Hogan simply because he literally changed the course of wrestling twice. Once as a good guy and again as a heel. Some will argue that with the nWo he had help with Hall and Nash which is true. But everyone knows if Hogan wasn't the 3rd man the whole nWo thing wouldnt have worked as well as it did because how invested we all were to see him turn heel. Also which i didnt hear about when talking numbers was Hogans Hulkamania run adjusted to the times. This would have to be done twice for 80s - 90s old school era and Attitude era. Last point, Hogan vs The Rock wouldn't have been as great if it was anyone else, now thats some drawing power. That whole storyline had to change because how badly fans got behind Hogan. Im just saying.

That’s open to debate. It comes down to three people: Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, and Bruno Samartino. Bruno sold out Madison Square Garden more than anyone in history and was champion for a total of around 12 years. That’s more than Ric Flairs 16 reigns combined and more than Hogan’s (12) and Cenas(16) put together. The knock is that he mainly wrestled in the Norteast. WWE will tell you it’s Steve Austin. He sold more merchandise and PPV tickets than anyone else(according to WWE). The problem is that his time was so short (around 4-5 years due to injury). That leaves Hulk Hogan. He was the one behind the 80’s boom, drew 93,173(maybe) fans at WMIII, headlined the first 8 Wrestlmanias, made WCW relevant and increased their PPV buy rates, formed the NWO and lead WCW during the Monday Night War. He sold out arenas in the AWA, Japan, WWF, WCW, and back to WWE. Hogan gets my vote.

Most people know Dwayne Johnson as The Rock before his actual name plus his collab with Under Armour , own energy drink brand, etc. Both have become worldwide known figures and whenever I see them in WWE , the pops they get are insane. whenever this topic is brought up, I'm always shocked to see the lack of a mention of Virgil. Virgil was arguably the biggest hero of the golden era next to Hogan. He was able to draw just when his name was said. But Virgil does lack longevity, on top of that he didn't win any championships which is absurd.

Hogan's the biggest draw. 1983 to 1988 was the highest point in pro wrestling and Hogan was the king of that era. Approximately 25 million people in the U.S alone watched Hogan on TV. 1996 to 2000 is the 2nd highest point of pro wrestling and Hogan in the nWo was the hottest thing in wrestling until the end of 1997. And Hogan was still on fire until 2000. Hogan came back to WWE in 2002 and he was huge then too. Then he went to TNA in 2010 and he drew over 2.5 million people to a company that drew about 1.5 million people. Hogan also drew the largest crowds in TNA's 19 year history. Hogan wins hands down.

Stone Cold Steve Austin by far. He brought wwe back into the mainstream when people started only caring about WCW. His promos were top notch at all times, he had the biggest pops of all time, his Austin 3:16 promo is pretty much memorized by every wrestling fan and he got the dumbest catchphrase to be so over it was the number 1 selling shirt for years and 20 years later fans still chant it.

If your talking pure draw, I think you have to take into account the Rock's movie career. I know it isn't wrestling, but it works the same way. If a studio casts Dwayne Johnson as top billing they can draw more money. Now blockbuster lead is as big of a draw as Johnson right now. Many wrestlers have tried movies (including Hogan, and Austin) but none had the success as Johnson. I think that's enough to prove there has never been a better draw, over a wider section of fans, than The Rock. And as stated, he could come back at any time and have probably the best selling wrestlemania of all time.

I'd say Johncena!!! Cena had the best marketable face. His gimmicks starting from Thuganomics to You can't see me are just unforgettable. His promos are till this day, unmissable. Especially considering that WWE was transitioning into a show mostly for kids and teenagers as major audience, Cena executed it perfectly. Not only in the USA but the entire world when asked about Cena will at a minimum say "You can't see me!". He was just everywhere and made WWE known as a global franchise. He defines WWE as an entertainment brand and is a true wrestling megastar.
