Here's a game for all of you. Turn off the screen, hide it or whatever and put on ear phones. Then every singer that comes on guess if you know them or not (hard version: guess the name of the singer.) Then turn it over and see if you got them right. You start to notice how distinct how everyone's voice is, it may be the same song, but everyone makes it their own in some way or another.

I gotta say, hands down, Jessica Vosk (1:10) absolutely kills this climax, and blows away any other competition. If we're going by "the best," hers is by far the cleanest, and so, so smooth and pleasing to the ear. The early riff on her "and I-" is absolutely beautiful. Sounds very much in character, doesn't take you out of the performance. Her voice moves like a wave and is truly effortless. I'll say my second favorite is Rachel Tucker (9:45). So, so much power, and it doesn't even sound like she's straining to get there. That growl she does on her "and" is stunning. Her notes don't waver whatsoever. When she's holding the final note, she. sustains. it. and. does. not. let. it. drop. Such an impactful performance and so definitive.
@lutoph Жыл бұрын
Some people just have the perfect voice for a song. I really struggle to think how someone would be able to perform this song better than Vosk at a technical level. Someone may well prefer another version and singer, but Vosk, technically, is flawless here.
@brolobear7 жыл бұрын
Stephanie J. Block actually originated the role and worked it through tryouts out of town. She was replaced with Idina Menzel when it came to NY.
@OnceUponATimeAddict6 жыл бұрын
As much as I love Stephanie, she only did about one or two workshop sessions before auditions were called for Elphaba, and then it was down between her and Idina which Idina gained because of her fame from RENT and dropping the "f" bomb in her audition....and it was Idina who did the tryouts, aka the San Francisco Early Runs as well as the Workshops between 2001-2003. But Stephanie is indeed one of the greatest Elphabas out there, right up there with Idina.

No, Idina was in some of the tryouts. At least that is what I heard or I might have read it in Kristin Chenoweth’s autobiography.

Ariana Grande is an amazing singer who’s made for broadway, but judging from her newest version of The Wizard and I versus this one, she is too focused on the voice she BUILT for pop music rather than her real, and what I think is much better, Theatre voice.
@Kenmuglaree6 жыл бұрын
Harlan D. Kind of but based on the new vs old in the new one she has way more control over her voice enough to add extra notes in the newest one and the old one her voice was kind of bland but still good.
@Kurgosh14 жыл бұрын
Can you blame her though? She would no doubt have had a successful and rewarding career on Broadway. But as a pop star she's stupid rich and several years away from even turning 30.
@nathanielcunningham24724 жыл бұрын
Honestly she had way less control over her old voice even though she has better pronunciation. What’s important is that now she’s making the music she wants to make and singing the way she wants to sing.
@zacharyrtaylor53794 жыл бұрын
The idea that we have one 'real' voice is not a healthy one, tbh. Being able to adapt and control intonation etc to perform different styles is hugely important and requires a lot of hard work on the singers part.

My thoughts: - idina is queen 👸 - shoshana poweeeeerrrrr Yaaas - Jessica has a really sweet Disney like tone and I’m really loving it - lea is my giiirrrll so of course i loved her version - Kerry is amazing in general with what she can do and her versatility so I’m not surprised she did so well - Ariana.... well i loved her voice back then but she needs to stop with this bubble gum pop singing tone it’s not as good - Avery surprised me with his vibrato and general tone i loved it - Stephanie, well we all know she’s a beast. Nuff said. - Alyssa is- like i said on another video- adorable and i love how clear her tone is - Myra has an awesome range with great power - Natalie Is so freaking cute with her facials and movements - Emma has greeeat inflection to her words - Danna’s transition up killed me it was so flawless - Luke has a really nice voice i love it - Lindsay is amazing in general and she gets really into it - Christine’s voice is super clear ! - Jemma’s voice is so goooood it sounded just cute at first then holy moly ! - willemijn is great I’m sure we’ve all heard her sustaining abilities - John yaaas another guy on this list killing it! - Donna has this really nice quality to her voice that’s appealing to me a lot - Kyle got so into it i love that! He also shaped the last riff really nicely - eden.... do i even need to say it?? She’s killer! She did seem tired tho which i can imagine - Jacqueline had beautiful tone to her voice - Jackie’s was pretty but the notes seemed to get away from her a bit at times - rachel seeems to be a fan favorite and i can see why! That vibrato!!

To me I find the “ee” in “teeaam” the most tricky to sing. Some of them tried to modify it to “eh”, some tried to riff through it because they couldn’t sustain the straight sound/aim for the right pitch, some took a breath too long, some got too screamy, some got too loud. Only one didn’t do any of the above and that’s Jessica Vosk.

A lot of these ladies may be better technical singers than Idina, but nobody out-acts her. Idina fully embodies the character and puts so much into the performance that makes it stand above everyone that came after. Donna Vivino is a close second. Also, so many of these ladies voices, while fantastic, are so similar that they’re basically interchangeable. But Idinas voice is recognizable from the first note she sings.

@Team Queen’ s Fearn Tucker and Bentley Forever what? She litterly shares music to her fans cause its what she loves to do siense shes very young, she doesnt want success. How tf did she used this terrible event for her money? Litterly did a donation for all the kids that are in the hospital and the injured families who lost thier closest person in thier life. Ariana has anxiety and these 2 years is the worst thing that person can have. The tragic that happened at Manchester, than her ex boyfriend died (also her best friend) to cancelling engagement with her ex fiance. Its her job to write songs, she writes songs about her anxiety and how she handles hate. People showed up to her apartment with knifes. Shes a strong women. She doesnt deserve that. Btw she worth only 45 Million.

Team Queen’ s Fearn Tucker and Bentley Forever where’s your proof? Also, I want to see you try to have a unique style, use proper placement, be still able to transition into different styles, and have a killer vocal range for I don’t know give or take 12 years. Ariana Grande is extremely talented and has done all of the above successfully. In addition to that, she raised money for the Manchester victims. She also had to deal with people blaming her for the death of her ex and she was able to come out on top of that situation with motherfucking elegance. And to top it all off, she has to deal with people like you, so I’d say she’s extraordinarily talented.

This is pretty much the only musical I saw so far. Crossing fingers if I would ever get a chance to see other amazing musicals like this one.
