Younger people need to understand. Very few people watched cable.not everyone had credit cards to go shopping. Most stores closed at nine. No video machines . So pretty much at evenings you watched television. Show was a hit. Because back then you spent your evenings at home.

Exactly. today the ratings for a show will never be in the triple digits or double digits ever again sadly. Co we've got way too many avenues of entertainment besides mere terrestrial TV? Now beyond Cable and satellite we also have; online streaming, digital downloads (official and illegal ones?), DVD/Blu-ray releases of TV shows and movies within 5 to 6 months period etc. We'll never see the skyrocketing rating numbers of the 1980's ever again sadly.

You got that right. When I look at the Pilot Episode in 1978 it was so bone chilling to see how things were. I was 12 and think of things that we don't use anymore. The Desk & Blotter, no Cell Phones, Internet, Facebook and the like. Jock's Home Office could have been used to do an Online Business.

This show aired during a year in which Darth Vader was Luke's Father, the summer olympics was not broadcast on American TV, and Jimmy Carter's final year in office as the Iran hostage situation lingered on. Back then cable tv was considered a luxury and VCRs were the DVRs of its time. The buzz about this show came from radio, tv news, the papers, and word of mouth.

1980 was also the year John Lennon was shot, Bon Scott of AC/DC died & just 3 months later they released Back In Black(the best selling hard rock album of all time) with a new singer, the year mount ST Helens erupted. The U.S. miracle on ice.

Justin Fencsak Yes, so true and I worked at a hospital when this aired and patients, hospital staff and visitors eyes were "glued" to any tv they could find to watch this show especially the episode J.R. was shot and the following episodes to find out who had did it. People were even betting on who the shooter was. Boy, those were the days.

Seeing Mary Crosby now, it's amazing (in a morbid way) how many drop-dead gorgeous actresses from the 60s, 70s 80s & 90s completely butchered their face with plastic surgery in an ironic attempt to preserve their beauty. I'd take a naturally aged woman over one with a plastic face any day.
@carolynargabright81325 жыл бұрын
That seems like the norm nowadays. Women back in those days aged normally, now, they have to try to look 40 years younger,
@EastSide-qc5oy4 жыл бұрын
@plushdogg124 I agree with you in a general sense, but she hardly (to me) looks like an example of how bad it can turn out. I wouldn’t say the word butchered really applies in her case. Yes you can tell she’s had some work done but I don’t place her in the butchered category. There are plenty of better examples of that.

This is where Suzanne Summers and Alan Hamel made their mistake thinking Suzanne Summers character Chrissy Snow playing dumb blond was worth what Larry Hagman was getting. Suzanne Summers always argued that she wanted to get paid what the men comparable in her business were getti g paid. SORRY Suzanne but u were no where near what Alan Alda and Larry Hagman or Carroll O Connor were to "their shows. Threes Company was not about u. Suzanne learned hard way when she was fired in 1981.
@auntiechercher42667 жыл бұрын
You said it! I always thought Suzanne Summers was the most expandable one on Three's Company. The fact that she thought she was so needed and valued shows that she overestimated her own importance. (Furthermore, she was not as strong as an actress as Joyce DeWitt was . . . . and some of us actually liked the show better without her)!

@@auntiechercher4266 I personally like Three's Company with Priscilla Barnes as the Sexy Badass Nurse Terri Alden, R.N. at least she wasn't egotistical like Suzanne was But I agree, after Three's Company became the #1 comedy and the #2 show of the 79/80 season with 60 Minutes became #1, that's when Suzanne decided to take in upon herself to ask for more money and it BACKFIRED on her and as a result, Three's Company dropped from #2 to #9, but stayed in the Top 10, but thanks the producers replacing her with Priscilla Barnes as the Sexy Badass Nurse Terri Alden, R.N., the show would climb BACK UP to the Top 5 and became the 2nd Most Watched Comedy of the season right behind The Jeffersons Larry Hagman, Carroll O'Connor and Alan Alda deserved more money because they were the stars of their own respective show s and plus, CBS was #1 during te early 80's Sorry Suzanne Somers, but the show wasn't about you, you were more of a supporting cast, the REAL star of Three's Company was John Ritter and IMO, if anyone deserved to be paid more when it came to Three's Company, it's John Ritter, but he didn't demand for more money, he just went with the flow and that's why the show lasted another 3 years

In some part of the World someone is watching Dallas right now. In one country he's known as "Jockey", where in French Dialect it's pronounced Gee Aaare. The UK Soap Operas Emmerdale & Coronation Street have referred to Dallas in Interviews and Storylines. Claire King who "died" on Emmerdale who played the Villianous Kim Tate said "You can't put me in the shower like Bobby Ewing", also Chris Quentin who played Brian Tilsley on Coronation Street said after his Character died, he wouldn't do a Bobby Ewing Shower Scene. Carrie Nichols who spoke to the Son of her former Lover Tom King in Emmerdale asked Jimmy King who he was like JR, Ray, Sue Ellen or Bobby. Hard to believe that a Five Part Miniseries would be a worldwide phenomenon that is enjoyed by new generations of fans.

Yeah I know that. That's why I said Larry was a Liberal. In fact, Larry was an even bigger Liberal while alive than Obama. Obama is a Moderate Liberal (won't seem like it to Conservative eyes, but he is. To the point that up there in Canada, Conservatives favored Obama over Romney in a poll). Larry was a far-leftists and was never ashamed of it. He gave money to Democrats and supported their agenda (including Obamacare). That's why Obama wouldn't shoot Larry but... maybe JR. The "old" JR.
