As ever a considered and excellent mini history lesson. I hope Shaw House put a link on their own website as you deserve lots of views. Thanks for making these great little films.

Thanks Neale, this one was quite a challenge: such fascinating stories that it was hard not to make an epic!

My dad was born and raised in Newbury but alas ended up in USA. Thus am interested in your postings. Samuel Freeman and Emma Sharp who ran one of the woolen mills are ancestors. Thanks.

Thanks Cynthia. Wow, you’re almost famous! Kersey cloth was a significant feature of Newbury in past centuries.

Great and informative as always Phil, it’s a shame they got rid of the waterfall fed canal, I’m guessing the reason was because of the construction of Church Road judging by where it appears to be located?

Thanks Lucas! I suspect the water features were expensive to upkeep and subsequent owners modified them until they no longer ‘featured’. (Did you see what I wrote then? 😂)

Another great video Philip, it’s a shame they wouldn’t let you spy under the plaque!

Thanks Matt, I totally agree about the plaque! I’d like to see the old bakery too. 🙂
