True. It should have been considered a conflict of interest to hire someone who is related to an executive at USSF. In any professional organization that would never have been allowed by the H.R. dept.

@@TheJimmyConrad maybe it’s recency bias but as a Bayern fan - I really like what he did with Dortmund this season. Overperformer in some aspects. He had a mix of youth and experience which is what he’ll have with us in 2026. He led them to a champions league final and put up a fight against the best of the best. Worked with Reyna before. He gave Sancho (a troubled player) some time and he performed decently well in the short time there. Definitely fell short in the league but I think he can fit well into international comp.

1) Club experience is NOT enough to rely on, in hiring the New USMNT Coach. - That Coach will need to have extensive National Teams Experience. - Should also have Titles in his Palmares. You need Evidence in the CV to rely on! 2) The International Experience that the USMNT Coach MUST have is: - Knowing how Soccer is played in Europe or South America, but also Africa and Asia. - Either knowing extensively or should have Coached in more than one Continent Xavi has the experience of having coached in Asia and had success, and knows European Soccer as a Player and World Champion. But I'm not sure if he can't be easily defeated by a South American side or African National Team. Herve Renard is a good Candidate for the USMNT but I think he needs to convince you with results, had we had 3 years of more before the World Cup I would say he will succeed for sure. Two years or less, I would expect that Mr. Renard may find difficulties with some Players. He is known for being disciplinary with Players, He will reject your best player if he thinks there are discipline issues that affect the rest of the players, and he would even play a tournament without players that refuse to conform to his way of looking at thinks. But, Herve Renard once he figures out his players and the opponent, is a FOX. He is somewhat a genius (which is far better than any you hired before) in preparing for and winning tournaments. He has enough National Team Experience to be trusted, but he may need more experience for the Americas or other continents. Herve coached in Ligue 1 France and African National Teams, now coaching the French Women Team. He's a quality coach that needs still to prove it outside of Africa. An American Coach with plenty of experience and a strong determination to succeed in 2026, will be a better option in terms of understanding the American Player and understanding the American FAN. You have to Click with the US FANS quickly to benefit from their Support in the Stands. NOT Easy to do for Foreign Coaches.

Right now you have Southgate and Luis de la Fuente in the Euro final. Both managed the youth sides for years before they were promoted to the senior position. Scaloni was managing the U21s before getting the senior job and winning the World Cup. Yet if anyone suggested we promote a manager from one of our youth sides, the fan base would completely melt down.
@TheJimmyConrad
@TheJimmyConrad Ай бұрын
Honestly, I think they're going to melt down regardless because that's where we are as a fanbase at the moment but, to your point, if a "lesser" name comes in and does well, then all is forgotten. Even Diego Maradona chimed in about Scaloni being the wrong hire before he passed (RIP) but now look at Scaloni. FIFA Coach of The Year in 2023 and on the brink of making history. Which is a really long way of me saying that we should be looking everywhere for the best possible fit!

I'll keep banging the drum until someone realizes the guy is a great manager: Kjetil Knutsen Great tactician Plays a high press His teams are ruthless and efficient in the attacking third. Proven ability to punch far above his weight. The USMNT job would be a financial upgrade, as well as a bigger stage. Watch what he did to Mourinho and Postecoglou. With a tenth of the payroll, he made them both look like, well, Berhalter. No one has mentioned him. He should absolutely be at the top of our list.

@@TheJimmyConrad I'm a Celtic fan and was excited for an easy win when we drew them in ECL. Honestly, I had never even heard of Bodø Glimt. Then, I saw what they did to Roma/Mourinho. Right then, I literally said, out loud, "Oh, sh1t. They're gonna destroy us". They beat us 5-1 on aggregate, and it wasn't even that close. I'm aware that Celtic are hardly Man City. But we have ten times Bodø's payroll, and Celtic Park is a proper fortress - one of the largest stadiums in Europe with a loud, fanatical supporter base. They didn't even have the good manners to look excited or talk sh1t when they beat us. The bastards were calm, professional, polite, and completely unsurprised by the result. What's more remarkable, is that they were in their preseason. Norway plays a similar schedule to MLS, due to harsh winter weather. We were in the middle of a very successful year, and Postecoglou had us playing like a machine. Knutsen has been connected with several English jobs - some Championship clubs, some lower half Prem sides. English arrogance is keeping him out. American arrogance will probably prevent him from even getting a look.

@@TheJimmyConrad you mentioned doing more with what you have available and his time at Everton he was able to do that. Find qualities that players had and working them together with others. He had excellent use of fullback/winger down the left with Baines and Pienaar so I would be very interested in what his ideas could do with Robinson and Pulisic which appears to be our strongest connection currently. He excelled at defending set pieces and as of right now I don't feel confident watching us defending. I think he provides that hard work and grit mindset while having been on the big stages of club football. He did fail out of the champions league one year with Everton, but taking the team to 4th in the Premier League was a huge accomplishment and in following years he still managed to hit that 6/7/8 range. He's been experienced through player confrontations as well such as Duncan Ferguson who seemed to mend the relationship or Royston Drenthe where he refused to let a big ego party and not follow the same rules of training like everyone else. A lot of how I see the game and want to see it played comes from Moyes.

Hey Jimmy! From what you said the team lacks (discipline, hunger and a bit of toughness) I believe Gallardo should be your man. Amongst the candidates you named (in the realistic bracket) he's been the most sucessfull in a tenure that has a national team stench to it. 8 years and a plethora of different players that all eventually praised him and fought for him. He's got a "big team" mentality, the one Renard may lack and he knows when to play ball and when to play the men, something the US absolutetly doesn't know how to do. He also doesn't marry any players and benches whoever deserves to be benched (He got canned from Saudi because he wanted to bench Benzema for his poor training). He'll bring some southamerican football passion to a the team plagued with "superstars sindrome" and he'll develope the ACTUAL superstars. I think it's a no brainer. The US tends to suffer it's own demise when the coach is also from the States because, even if the footballing culture is growing, you guys are babies mentality wise. Most of your players don't sleep, eat and breathe football like here in southamerica.

Get Southgate now that he’s free. His style will better suit the US team thats not packed with quality players. He’ll make them tougher to break down and play counter attacking football. The pragmatic style is ideal for these players. It’s proven successful if not pretty to watch.

Love how you under sell experienced managers like Pocchetino and Tuchel but praise Cherundolo?!!! Sounds like the USSF mindset. Also if we must go American why are guys like Pellegrino Materazzo and David Wagner not discussed more they have done more than Berhalter and Cherundolo combined!

Steve Cherundolo would be a fantastic coach for america 🇺🇸 🥳 I think national teams need to stick to coaches born within their country because foreign managers personally I don't think have ever been successful at a national team level!!!! And a patriot like Steve Cherundolo would be great for the players to embrace that passion!!!!😤😤😤

Herve… 1. He’s won with teams that no one expected. 2. He knows how to work with what’s he got. 3. He will humble the players(IMO) and bring back competition. It’s a privilege to wear that jersey not a right. 4. He beat Argentina! 5. When he wasn’t doing the best job, he admitted it and resigned. No Cheredolo!!!! All he represents is the elitism that exists in US Soccer! We all saw 2014 WC and we can’t unsee it!

US Soccer lost its opportunity to hire Jose Mourinho. He could have got a lot, out of a little. Attempting to hire him would have shown that they take the 2026 World Cup, which is being hosted in America seriously. It is very clear the organization is concerned more about themselves than winning. US Soccer has failed America.

I feel like you need stability, one world cup per manager is silly. (Right decision to sack him) BUT you need a manager to build something, that doesn't happen instantly!
@TheJimmyConrad
@TheJimmyConrad Ай бұрын
Fair take. But four years is more than enough time for a coach to create a successful identity for a team. The stability I believe you're talking about is the infrastructure underneath it. That is what will consistently pump out the players for a national team to have success so that's where a lot of our focus needs to reside. Personally, I think we have more than enough players that want to to play in this country. Now we need better coaching, better scouting, etc.

Let hire boremir from LOTR( AKA Herve Reynard). He’s definitely a passionate motivator but also proved he can do a lot with lesser talent in those smaller or less proven African cup of nation sides. Hes literally the opposite of Gregg. Just sayin.

@@TheJimmyConrad You're a legend Jimmy❤️ Yeah I see that, I just don't see it for either of those two. Maybe for Allegri? He's a bit older already. Maybe someone would be best who is past his prime but a former top-class coach with a lot of experience.
