The shortage most likely will end when people are satisfied that gun control isn't going to happen for a while. What is not going to happen is prices coming back down to what they were. It will be nice to see those Green boxes back on the shelves again and having the capability to make billions of rounds per year Vista wouldn't have purchased a 206 year old company if they didn't believe that they could have been able to do it. Also, with more companies being able to open up because of the China virus restrictions being lifted because of the state's finally having enough of Mr. Potato Heads BS more companies will be following suit also. Brass & bullets are already easier to find if you know the right places to look and the prices are not gouged and primers are rolling back into the market also now if people just don't go crazy on the smokeless powders those will be readily accessible also just buy what you need I mean hell when 1lb of powder will make on average of 1300 rounds of pistol ammunition then don't go buy 5 and let them drive up the price on us people just need to use their heads and purchase accordingly! If you want to pay the exorbitant price for factory loads and panic buy then the price will continue to skyrocket but learn to reload, capture your brass once you've recovered the price of the press and dies which is less than $400.⁰⁰ in most cases it's a no nonsense investment and will drive the price of factory loads back down. I said the same thing! I went to the corner store and diesel went from $1.40 last year to $2.79! I rolled in there on fumes and told that Pakistani guy he was out of his damn mind! I said, "Last year it was $1.40! You're F-ing gouging me!" So I walked home and 30 minutes later, out of breath (I'm fat) my wife asked me where my truck was. Moral of the story: If you don't like the price, don't buy it. But don't complain when you don't have it. Food, clothing, and shelter are the necessities. You can't gouge on ammo. If it's priced too high it won't sell. With all the dealers around they cannot collude. If 10 dealers are all $50/box on 9mm, one guy will drop it to $45 just to screw the others. Then another guy will go to $40. The guys sitting on ammo at $50 will have to come down or not sell product. Why do you think all Glocks cost $499, barely 10% over cost? And that's MAP. Some guys sell for $479 but they can't advertise it publicly. Why do you think transfers are so cheap. They should be $100! You want to screw the local dealer by buying online, fine. He should screw you back with the transfer fee. But he can't, because Billy will do the transfer for $15 and get all the transfer business. Same concept with ammo. You bought your scope on Optics Planet for $2500 and then asked your dealer to hook you up and mount it and boresight it for $15...and then asked if there was a veteran or LE discount. A dealer who can only get 1 case of 9mm this month (20 boxes) but yet still has to pay 4 employees $2k/mo each plus $4k in rent can't just make $1.50/box like he used to. He's going to get 10 guns total this month to sell because everything is allocated. So on maybe 4 cases of ammo and 10 guns he has to find a way to pay all the bills. Oh, and Aero Precision is now basically customer direct so he's not getting the AR parts he needs either. But you don't care about that local dealer or supporting him which is why you're shopping online anyway. So don't complain about him gouging you when you're quoting online prices to him anyway. All gun customers are capitalists when it comes to selling guns or consigning guns but they're communists who believe in artificially low prices, price fixing, and loathe the free market system when it comes to buying.

Believe it or not, mom and pop dealers are paying high prices for ammo too. As they don't buy in volumes that allow them to get the bulk rate that PSA or Natchez gets, the price they pay is often higher than what you'll see at Natchez or Brownells during an ammo drop. Then of course they need to make money on it to cover their own costs (rent, utilities, taxes, etc). So in the end, some dealers are price gouging, but the majority of them really aren't making much from it

This is spot on and totally true. All the conspiracy theories were everywhere about ammo. I was recently reading about this very issue. From the research I've done the last few weeks ammo should be readily available again soon. Unfortunately soon is the best answer I could get. I teach firearms training from first time owners up to as advanced as you want or the limit of my own ability. Long story short from what I've been told and read as well. Most manufacturers are fully staffed and bsck up and running full steam. Still watch out for your local shops price gouging. That will probably go on for as long as small retailers can keep it up. These last 7 or 8 months I've seen ammo prices of common normally inexpensive rounds like 115 grain 9mm FMJ target ammo and 55 grain .223 BT reach prices of a dollar a round and as much as $1.90 a round for .223. Until it levels out retailers like Academy Sports still charges very fair and reasonable prices. The trick is to get there while it's in stock. People begin lining up as early as 4am on delivery days which are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Not only there. A handful of local shops are still playing fair. I bought just last week the 115 grain FMJ 9mm target ammo I just mentioned for $22.00 a box. A week or so before that a shooting buddy and I split a 200 round box of Winchester 62 grain 5.56. Cost us about 62 cents a round. It's out there and slowly getting better. Best of luck...

That's the thing why people think that it's so bad and willing to pay the ridiculous prices is cause they go to Wal-Mart and other places and shelves are empty and in reality they are only empty because they is one person there every morning waiting on them to stock the shelves with what ammo came in that morning and they buy every bit of it then go home and slap it on the internet for 2 or 3 times original cost then the regular people come in and see no ammo and think omg what am I going to do there is no ammo anymore so they go home and see it on the internet at the crazy prices and buy it cause they think it's the only ammo left. I miss shooting like we usually did but I ain't paying those prices. I was in Walmart a while back and they had 6 box's of winchester 330rd boxes and a few little boxes of wildcats so I was buying 1 brick and a gun for my son but guy at counter said he couldn't sell any ammo or guns had to wait on other person to get back from lunch and in the mean time a feller walks up as the other worker shows up and he acted like he didn't see me standing there but tells them he wanted all the ammo they had and they was getting it for him it passed me off so I spoke up and said did you not see me standing here that I've been right here for almost 30 minutes waiting on them to return from lunch. Then I said I'm getting a brick and that he should save a few boxes for other people. I should have bought it all myself and then just give it to people that needed it. Went home and that evening I was on Facebook and seen a picture of a bunch of ammo and it looked familiar so I checked out his profile it was same guy from a out 4 county's over he drives to all the walmarts buying up ammo. Here I gave my last full brick of federal 22lr away to someone who couldn't afford to pay $50 for a box. And I've gave away several boxes of other ammo I had that I didn't have a gun that shot them. I did trade some to people also that had ammo I needed that they couldn't use.
