Brief overview of the life and works of Bertha Pappenheim. Although she is often recognized as "Anna O," who had a huge influence on the history of psychoanalysis, most of her life was actually dedicated to the rights and protection of women and children.

This was a fascinating lecture. I knew about her as the subject of the Anna 'O' study, but had little further information about her life after that. She achieved some incredible things given that she had suffered so much with her mental health in earlier life. The recovery from the mental health problems probably made her much stronger and helped to shape the work she went on to do. Many thanks!

Amazing presentation! It was really fun to listen to and really interesting as well! This is probably the only good presentation of Bertha Pappenheim on KZbin. I was just reading about the case Anna O. in a book about Freud and wanted to learn more about her life because she did so many great things! So thanks a lot!

Lise Mietner(nuclear fission), Rosalind Franklyn(3d shape of Dna) Marie Blau (physicist) many many women ignored in science. Sad.

Actually it's kind of exaggerated to claim that Lise Meitner is being ignored, at least not in Germany. You might want to do a Google search on her.

Very recommendable! Fascinating Bertha Pappenheim. Plus learnt at least one new expression from Henry Abramson: au courant. Having grown up in Frankfurt am Main, I don't think I ever heard about Bertha Pappenheim who is buried in my home town

Dr. Abramson: The German word for the singular "daughter" is "tochter," which is pronounced "tuchter." The plural is attained by changing the "o" to an "o" with an umlaut above it, which is difficult to pronounce for non-Germans, and sounds somewhat like the word "techter" pronounced with pursed lips. Consequently, over the years, Yiddish speakers simply began to pronounce the word for "daughters" as "techter."

Shalom Dr, Abramson enjoy your work. If I might go off topic for a bit. The subject of the Star of David came up awhile back. I saw an ossuary at the ROM in 1972, it had a Star Of David on it.When I finally went back to check it out, I was told the exhibit had been moved to the basement, I was young and didn't follow up on it. Since the subject of that symbol has arisen in these days by people who have questionable motives I would love to get the date of that particular exhibit. Just thought you might be interested. Thank You.

@@HenryAbramsonPhD I am doing that Dr Abramson and I have to find that ossuary again. Who was this person who had a six pointed star with a cross in the center. It will be my final quest. Have a good day.

My grandmother is a Stein her name was Bertha her mother’s mother gave her up for adoption and sent her with a German Jew family friend to Africa then to America where she was adopted by the steins later in Camden South Carolina .bertha pappenhiem is my great great great grandmother (I think I have that right) . Bertha did have a baby with Joseph bruer she gave the baby up who was my grandmothers grandmother. I could go on and on about all the interesting facts and knowledge I have on a woman that saved over fifty thousand woman and children not just Jewish . We did not find this out til a few yrs ago when my grandmother past we found out a lot we did not know and mainly because it was hidden for so long and my grandmother could not read or write english so she only knew her grandmother was an Austrian Jew that gave her up for adoption .i will eventually put together some of the articles and documents and pictures I have on my channel one day. I’m still processing all this and it just blows my mind

at 23:41 "The various Techinos". What are Techinos?
@lsmart
@lsmart Жыл бұрын
Techinos is the plural of techinah (תחינה), which is a plea or supplication. Since women were generally housekeepers, and had more free time on their hands than men, pious women would spend many minutes (or even hours) daily reciting Tehillim (Psalms) or techinos for such things as making a living, health, having children, finding a proper spouse, etc. Many were written in Yiddish, since most women (even religious ones) couldn't read or speak Hebrew.

the definition of hysteria has evolved over time. Historically, this has not always meant a problem with the uterus detaching and traveling, although it often had a very sexualized connotation and has long been considered a female disease

I believe she had gifts and they unfortunately were diagnosed by one of the most perverted drs ever as hysteria . She was having a spiritual awakening ..she found out the truth about what the Zionist were doing and she was against it. Poor thing no wonder she was filled with anger . I wana know who the man with the beard she kept seeing ..the one that gave her a sign of blessing
