90's kid so I remember the re-broadcasting of this, Thunderbirds (casualty used to terrify me as a kid so my dad and I would watch Thunderbirds in the other room while mum watched casualty in the front room) and stingray! Thanks for bringing back some great memories with this channel!

In one of the 1960's Captain Scarlet annuals, there were Lieutenants Gold, Sepia and Brass, and in one story, a Major Emerald.

@@jyvben1520 No. Colonel White is the head of Spectrum, white being the colour you end up with after projecting all the other colours through a prism. Gerry Anderson explained this in his autobiography.

@@MrCrystalwarrior1 you are taking it too seriously, i was joking about major emerald and general granite, both being a type of stone and color, and does a prism not split white into the different colours, and black is the absence of any colour.

When the first UK nationwide broadcast of the series (1993-94) aired, a big deal was made about the series that hadn’t been spotted (or more likely, no-one cared) when the series first came out in 1967. The leader of the good guys (Spectrum) was Colonel White. The main bad guy was Captain Black. White v Black. Some groups actually wanted the show to be banned from being re-broadcast!!!

@@ObediahPolkinghornIII-cz5io Except those names never existed, the cabin boy was called Tom, and no character called Seaman Staines existed in the show, the names came from jokes made about the show by a newspaper who got sued for it for acting like it was fact.

Joking aside I do recall a “Sepia” being mentioned in one of the comic stories, either in TV21 or one of the Annuals. I think he was a Lieutenant. I don’t believe I imagined it.....but I am knocking on a bit now so it’s possible.

Scarlet as a colour 'Red' would naturally seem to be the most authoritative colour after Colonel White as the head of Spectrum. (like the 'Red Ranger' in Power Rangers) Its just that he's in the field as an agent. If anything the second most authoritative colour would be Black or Grey agreed! I think in the series it should've been highlighted that Scarlet was demoted after the pilot episode when he was under Mysteron control, and Black became a Mysteron agent himself. So the natural order of Spectrum field agents was reordered around and Blue received a massive promotion in rank! Captain Grey was seen as too green and naive in the part or inexperienced to be somebody like Captain Scarlet's partner so was replaced instead. Thats how i see it all.

Imagine ending up with a colour codename that sounds so utterly ridiculous and takes any authority or seriousness away from you. Something like _"Captain Salmon"_ or _"Captain Bisque"_ for example 🤣 You'd immediately resign from Spectrum!
