It was very risky for Irena to carry an infant in a burlap bag past Nazi guards. If they hadn't been possessed of their faculties due to drink, they could have questioned her as to why she was carrying rags in a bag, of what necessity or importance was it to do so, then scoured through the bag to come across the child. She was both a brave and kind-hearted woman and certainly picked the right occupation.
