What type of man was Charles Langston? An activist, a father, a truth seeker and one who was willing to stand up against slavery. His eloquence, I believe, was inherited by Langston Hughes.

He eventually moved to Kansas and worked in the following ways: - by presenting, along with others, documents and evidence before the state’s legislature; - by debating and corresponding with state representatives and the governor; - by working with others to include black male suffrage in the Republican Party’s platform in 1866 (it was subsequently removed);

I am a soon to be sixty-five year old 'woman of color', who happen to be born in the usa... I am so thankful unto the LORD for helping these amazing people you are revealing to us thru this site...who were born onto this earth with my skin tone and in the usa....who lived under such DEPLORABLY 'atrocious' circumstances and yet thrived ...in spite of their european american oppressors 'rabid boar' actions used to prevent them from doing so!! I was a participant in 'poetry reading competitions' in high school called 'forensics'...I was the only 'young lady of color' at mostly ALL the meets...and I read Mr Langston Hughes' poems and WON first in all the meets and LETTERED.... I never was taught about Mr Hughes in school...I just happened upon a book of his poems in our high school library...placed 'way back' on one of the dusty shelves... I read his writings and they were so gripping, riddled with humor and a biting sting of ''truth'...They made me laugh out loud, smile, reflect, and then ultimately cry because of the underlying 'truth' hidden within the the words he wrote.... I HAD to read them out-loud for others to become exposed to the TRUTH his writings revealed within his rhythmic poetry! I sincerely wished I would have dug deeper into Mr Hughes' life story and the overshadowed history of those who were trailblazers in his family... His family's life story exposed...would have bolstered my courage, and help propel me forward into more research about 'history' that was and still is...purposely...LEFT out of schools in the usa's 'mandated' educational curriculum... Continued success on getting the TRUTH revealed to the ignorant masses!!!

Here in Fredericksburg, VA there is a small stone museum of an apothecary. A Scots pal of George Washington was a physician AND a general. He had a black mistress. I have not seen exactly the list of what is in the herbal garden but plan on it. I think this gentleman and his brilliant mistress might be ancestors to some of the people you note.

Is Langston Univ. in Oklahoma named after Charles Langston? Doris
@blackandeducation
@blackandeducation 11 күн бұрын
@@doriscoleman2582 Great question. The town and the school in Oklahoma are named after John Mercer Langston, Langston Hughes's great-uncle (pictured in the thumbnail)! He was way more famous than Langston Hughes's grandfather because of his time in the U.S. Congress and at Howard (helping to develop its law school). He was the younger brother of Charles Langston and the great-uncle of Langston Hughes. Hope that answers the question and thank you for asking 😊 Note...the college was first called the Colored Agricultural and Normal University, but then changed its name.
