I always thought the Easternlings were comparable to say the Ottoman Empire or maybe the Mongol empire.

more likely the Mongol Empire, being the Asia equivalent of Middle Earth, Haradwaith being the Middle Eastern to Northern Africa equivalent.

@@numenorean81 Ottomans were the threat to Europe from the SOUTH-EAST, they are more like the Haradrim in relation to Gondor (though they are far too modern an example for a direct comparison, no-one in middle earth had guns and canons, still, the Siege of Vienna had much in common with the attack on Minas Tirith).

Ottoman, for sure.

Not the mongols it would be the ottomans because of JRR Tolkien was a ww1 vet and used his experience there to help write his books and the Ottoman Empire would make more sense because they fought against the allies for the axis forces with Austria and their allie Germany it wouldn’t make any science for the mongols they weren’t around during ww1 but if you look at how long the Ottoman Empire was around a long time and they had once fought with sword and horses so I think it doesn’t make sense to say mongols are what the Easterlings are when you have how the Ottoman Empire not only in their early days of being an empire looked like the easterlings but also that JRR Tolkien could have fought against ottoman forces during ww1 or just knew of their involvement and thus chose to add a type of people into middle earth

@numenorean81 the "Knight of Umbar" would be interesting. Check out MESBG for inspiration. They 'name' all nine ringwraiths and give them different skills as abilities to make them unique. Of course it's not found in the books, but definitely could be used to inspire future videos.

Interesting interpretation of Rhun! Its interesting because we know so little about Rhun and the lands outside the West. I always viewed Rhun as an amalgamation of several cultures.. the Salucids, the Parthians, Ancient China, and even Northern Indian Rajput warriors. Peter Jackson took influence from the cultures to come up with the look and feel of the Easterlings. I think there is a large desert in Rhun but also has mountains and forests. Its a very rich society both economically and culturally.

somehow I always imagined Khamul to be a desert dweller. I certainly found inspiration from the historical Middle East. Thank you for commenting!

The description of Rhûn sounds more like Harad. Shouldn't Rhûn be more like southern Russian steppes? Maybe Mongolia?

You could very well be right, much of Rhûn is a mystery, I just hope it contains a large desert at it's heart, my plot armor requires it! 😏

@@numenorean81There were winejards around rhun. The easterlings was first horse riders from the steps not dessert... also your plotarmour is thin around how Khamul was. There is nothing suggesting that he was cruel to begin with. Its well known that some of the wraiths recisted longer going into darkness.

When I heard amazon was planning a series in the Second Age, I felt they could do truly amazing things by creating backstory to the Nazgul. Instead, they went all dorky and dumb. Imagine a season or two showing the rise, corruption, and fall of a powerful king, slowly falling under Sauron's spell....

Hey man! Let me start of by saying how great your videos are! Is there a way to get in contact with you, I make LOTR inspired videos inside of the ESO game where I roleplay etc, some of the narrating would be epic to add more immersion to my vids! Would love to discuss if I could potentially use some of the material! Love to hear from you! Keep up the good work, there is never enough tolkien universe lore

I don't think Rhûn was ever described as a desert. But I could be wrong. A lot of this video seems to be just pure speculation. I don't think Tolkien ever gave an origin story for any of the Nazgul.

Yeah, they only things we know of Khamul is his name and where he is from. It might be that this vision has too much sand in it, and indeed, there is much speculation here, as written in the description

redo - with Rhun like Russia/Turkistan; Harad is more like Arabia; farther south and east gets to India/Africa

Nice artistry and narration, yet very weak on any semblance of a story or character arc. Ok we get it: wanted power then corrupted. Boring. I'd suggest this channel take creativity to a higher level, redo your vids. Afterall each man did have a reign of terror, wealth and conquests lasting for many centuries before they succumbed to Sauron. This is entirely empty, a shameful waste actually.

Hey, firstly big thanks for sharing what was on your mind. You bring up fair points, and I stand partially undefended, because I agree. :) The story is kind of shallow. What I can say is this; stories like this takes me a lot of time and effort both to create and bring to life on screen, so delving deeper into Khamul's past and psyche would require much more from me, and a longer screen time for sure. maybe 30 mins would have sufficed, but I doubt it. 45 mins to one hour is more like it. I will not redo any vids, but I am constantly working on improving the writing, editing etc, so I can make the next video more engaging. If I do another video (chances are high) about one of the unknown Ringswraiths I will heed your advice, I will make sure the story is more layered.
