Just months before four law enforcement officers were killed and five others were injured during a standoff, the man at the center of the deaths led police on a high-speed chase in Lincoln County.
Lincoln County Sheriff Bill Beam told WCNC Charlotte one of his officers tried to pull over 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr. in January, but instead of slowing down, he sped up and "took off." Beam said a supervisor called off the short chase once the officer identified the license plate number, which was registered to a woman.
The U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force was attempting to serve multiple warrants against Hughes on Monday, including one tied to that Lincoln County chase, at a home on Galway Drive in east Charlotte when they were met with "active gunfire," according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Hughes was shot and killed during the encounter.

According to public records the owners of the house are a Thomas and Cheryl Looney. I think they probably rented it out to the older woman and she was letting the suspect live with her. The 17 year old is probably her daughter and maybe his as well. I'm curious if insurance covers the house or who pays for the damages. I feel bad for the owners.

Being a cop doesn’t automatically make you the Terminator. A cop is still just a man with a gun at the end of the day. I grew up around guns, I shoot competitions as a hobby, I have practically zero formal training, and yet I frequently outperform police officers at the range. I’ve just spent more time honing this skill than they have, and I’m just a random citizen. Being a cop has very little to do with guns really, it’s a small part of their job and many of them shoot just enough to keep their qualifications.

Actually if he was a danger to society then he shouldn't have been released from prison. This man was 100% within his constitutional right to carry a firearm. This is what happens whenever you violate the constitution. According to the Constitution the only time an individual can be stripped of their rights is during incarceration. I absolutely blame public school for the majority of you not knowing this. The second amendment says A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, (this is a separate section) the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
