Daieisho is the kind of guy where he could definitely get to Ozeki with some luck but those opportunities might have passed him up already. I really hope Kirishima can make the path back up to Ozeki in nagoya, it would be sad to see the Mongolian Yokozuna streak end with him.

Daieisho over-committed less last tournament (which imo is his biggest flaw that cost him sekiwake, so many of his losses are just somebody stepping aside and sending him careening in to the crowd at maximum speed) and it served him well. He looks very physically strong and pretty healthy and mostly consistent, so he's definitely up near the top for me (maybe even over kirishima...I worry a lot about that guy)

Takerufuji if he's healthy will likely skyrocket, Wakatakakage again if he stays Healthy, Wakamotoharu if he can find that next gear, Hakuoho if he stays healthy That's my short list.

Thanks for your analysis. I really enjoy watching your channel. I think Onosato is a lock for Ozeki and Yokozuna barring any significant injury. Let's hope he stays healthy because injury plays such a big part in one's sumo ranking. I think without injury, Kirishima and Takakeisho are legit Ozeki, and the same could be said for Takayasu and Asanoyama. Takerufuji is another one to watch coming off an injury and I'll never count out Wakatakakage because he's so technical though undersized.

I think that Takayasu or Asanoyama could also be on the plausible list, the big if for them being that they would need to stay healthy for six straight months.

I’m afraid they already passed the point when keeping health for 6+ months was doable

They would need 6 straight months of health AND dominance. I just don't see it. I COULD see a weird maegashira yusho from either, though.

@@TheDohyo Sadly, you're probably right. For either guy to be dominant even if healthy a significant chunk of the high-level competition would need to underperform. Of course one or two sanyaku level guys could get injured, but there's always new talent like Onosato and Onokastu showing up.
@qbreezy2417
@qbreezy2417 Ай бұрын
@@zoicon5 They at least have the dominance part down. Both can easily clear double digits in the joi when healthy. Abi's chances of making the leap at this point in his career are almost nothing and he apparently warranted mentioning.

Onosato. Maybe Takerufuji if his ankle injury won't compromise his career. Maaaaybe Atamifuji too but only years from now. Hakuhoho and Onokatsu are 'wait and see' at the moment. Others are unlikely due to age (Daieisho missed the promotion by a hair not long ago) or their body form (Gonoyama and Hidenoumi, yes Takakeisho was the only good Ozeki for a long time but the hamster is special, would be Yokozuna if he had a more fitting body).

Ozeki watch for September 2024. How many wins do eligle wrestlers need in September for 33 total. Onosato 12, Daiesho and Hiradoumi 14 and Abi 15. Bonus being Takakeisho with 10. Of those I would say Onosato is to only possible option to reach their needed win totals.
@mehulian

Three candidates for me, firstly Onosato wich is the closer one. Secondly Takerufuji wich has shown us he has the Strenght necessary to become one. Lasty Wakatakakage, wich I believe will show us a new person when he starts this Basho. Hopefully we can have a new Yokozuna between those possible new Ozeki. Teru can't hold another Year, hopefully someone can have a start button on their way to be a great Yokozuna, maybe Hoshoryu wich is developing his sumo, or Kotozakura wich couldn't show us if he has what really is necessary to become a Yokozuna wich is, win Bashos.

I'm not really sold Kirishima making it back. He has been inconsistent when he was healthy. I think if Wakatakage can return to form, i think he has a good chance of making ozeki. Takakeisho is sure to be falling by the end of the year. Nobody I know will argue with Onosato*.

Yo brotha. I love your content and your analytics and reasoning really makes sense and consistent. I want to see your channel explode and highly-deservingly so. What do you think about the veteran Takarafuji and his recent success? I feel like he might make a little Sanya'aku push before he retires and I'm all about it! I would also like to see a spotlight on Onokatsu. He is a great kid and definitely deserves the amenities that come with greatness. Much more than Oshoma and his terrible nice guy act. 😅

I hope Takarafuji sticks around for another year or so, but I would not expect a san'yaku push. His last winning record in the single-digit maegashira was over 2 years ago (9-6 @M7w - 1/22)

IMO, that was a specific case of bad banzuke luck. Because of the way the banzuke shook out post-1/19, if Takakeisho had been promoted, it would have forced an M8 with 10 wins into a Komusubi slot (Kaisei). sumodb.sumogames.de/Banzuke.aspx?b=201901#M If Onosato got 12, that would be 35 wins, and I think that would be undeniable. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWelpIeliJaMf9E

@ai314159 Ай бұрын
@@TheDohyo Oh, I don't think it had anything to do with the banzuke. For one, the Ozeki promotion is initiated a couple of days before the banzuke meeting. There were two factors IMO: (1) Takakeisho was very young, and this run was basically his first go in san'yaku (other than one basho at K which ended with 5-10) and (2) his embarrassing loss to Goeido on day 15, when a win would probably have sealed the deal, and maybe even a more respectable loss (I recall one of the shimpan saying "not with that sumo" when asked about his Ozeki chances right after that bout).
