Mikey! You have your C of A for DTD complete and in hand on Day 49 after starting work at St. Hubert, and just shy of five months after your "Episode OO" announcing you were buying the bird for sale on EBay. I don't know if people really understand just how amazing that is, in terms of the age and condition of the airframe you started with, the work and parts that were needed and the quality and enthusiasm of your volunteers! FANTASTIC NEWS!!! WoW! CONGRATULATIONS! Loved the Bobby Cam video from the cockpit of the startup and engine run. Done it in a Beaver, but never seen it up close in a DC-3. Great stuff, and thank you to Bobby and Uncle Ronnie. My niece and her 7 year old daughter stopped by where I'm staying near the hospital in Edmonton right now. I showed some of the Plane Savers highlights, and my Great Niece (? Is that the right term?) said that DTD should be named the "Buffalo Express" because of her Buffaki-green tail. All of us roared with laughter - we've been following your daily video posts and loving them. I showed her a few of the big milestones, including the 1st engine run and the full power run. One of the things she said was that she wants to do her blonde hair up in braids like Stella's (E146, I think), then she asked if Stella has been working on the plane all the time, and if the lovely young lady with dark hair who's with Uncle Ronnie in the cockpit in E134 is really studying to be an "airplane engineer" - and of course I answered "Yes." I told her about how Stella's been working non-stop on stripping and repainting DTD, and how the ENA students have been volunteering in their spare time. Then she announced that when she finishes school she' wants to go to ENA and learn to be an aircraft engineer. I think she'll do it, too - she's a very determined young lady, fluently bilingual and loves to help her dad and her uncle fix cars and lawn mowers and such. She's really impressed by seeing young women working on the Plane Savers project. We should probably book her in to ENA right now. So Mikey, the influence of Plane Savers is spreading into unexpected places. My niece and her daughter went off to get some t-shirts and coloured felt markers to make their own "Plane Savers" shirts complete with a DC-3. Please tell Stella and the ENA students that they're inspiring the next generation. Fantastic news about the C of A coming through today - it was another day for moist eyes here, and not because of the forest fire smoke. To quote our budding E.M.E., "Plane Savers Is Wonderful!"

Oh wow, you made me cry again, Mikey! Congrats to all of you for another milestone. Watching the startup and counting the blades reminded me of my one and only ride in Staggerwing #295. I asked Peter Dahl (who owned it at the time as ZS-PWD) why he turned the prop through before actually starting. He explained about hydraulic lock, and finished up with words to the effect, "Alas, round engines also fall victim to the laws of gravity." Sincere congratulations from the bottom of my heart. Well done, all of you.

Not going to lie, I was hoping it was going to be one of the former ice pilots who were going to fly with Joe. However after meeting Quinn and hearing his story I agree there was really only one choice. As Quinn was talking about his grandfather I was in near tears. The fact that Quinn's grandfather also flew DTD just makes this story that much more magical.

here in the uk I have watched ever single episode, and loved it all... As a child my bedroom faced the flight path of Yeadon airfield (as was - now LBA). This poem says it all - I hope that you like it, Mikey...: Douglas Dakota C47 From distant hills would drift the sound, A radial-rhythm in the sky, At once I’d know a 47, Was growling down to earth from heaven. Dakota, dawdling into view, ‘Silver City’, or ‘BKS’, Blue, or red, ‘Air Lingus’ green, Hot-house jolting, joy machine. I’d watch its strutted wheels come down, Round yellow eyes, full-beam ahead, I’d trace it banking round to where Its flaps would stab into the air. Rooted beneath the landing-lights, Wide eyed, I’d drink its deep descent, Until it’s shadow swiftly fell free, And rooftop roaring gently shook me. Then swirl of air... a second’s silence. A skid, a squeal, a rattling rumble. A rev’ of engines, a number jotted. A routine landing, a boy besotted!
