What can I say. Every episode is getting more and more emotional for me. Having spent 8 days volunteering on DTD and doing things I thought I never would. And not being there is killing me. The good news is I will be there for D-Day. I get to watch this beauty fly again, and even better I get to watch with all the fantastic friends that I have made on this journey. To Mikey, Stella, and Ronnie thank you for making my dream come true. See everyone on Thursday. Spaghetti Don.

I have watched every episode from the beginning and am entirely happy with where the DC-3 currently sits. You have taken an abused abandoned girl from the brink of death and breathed new life into her. One cannot express enough to the many folks who took time out of their lives to resurrect DTD, from old hands Ronnie, Jay, Bobby, Fred, Pierre et-al to the upcoming generation Benjamin and the other fellow (name slips me). This labour of love representing the Veterans of the second world war goes above and beyond all expectations and for that Mikey you have my undying gratitude. In the words of Buffalo Joe, she's a survivor and we will make her fly.

"Doesn't this qualify for that music?" BAOTSLOL (beer all over the screen lol) ~ Thank you Bobby! Yes Joe MTL has a rat problem. Had a Ram Air Turbine at work today with the lines detached and capped off. It was signed off on and somebody gave it a look over yet the other end of the lines were not torqued. Luckily nobody got a skydrol shower, it was a mouse size puddle. Great to see ol Joe sniffing around and looking for nests. Now everybody knows the Plane Gods are real and we have men in direct contact with them. One more sunset to go before she flies again!

Yes. And at long last, I now know the answer to a really odd anomaly in one of my dad's pilots logbooks from 1942. He was checked out on several aircraft types at the time - Harvards, Ansons, Hurricanes. Spits, and Beaufighters. But there's a 5-day interval spent zig-zagging across North Africa in the right seat of a Dakota, finishing up (if I read it correctly) in Cairo. He was taciturn in his logs, so there's no explanation, although his Squadron C/O signed off on that trip, and his temporary absence from the Squadron. But from this nice bit of map work today, I think I can fill in the rest of the story. The nickname "Sgt. Beer" gives an oblique reference to one part (my dad didn't drink). Funny how the pieces come together so long after the fact.
@KevinJones-pj8kx5 жыл бұрын
Great progress. Serge did a wonderful job on the decals. Jay was happy to find only normal carbon in the strainers. The inspections are wrapping up. Watched every single episode from day one and I had a feeling that this project would not only be accomplished but done on time. Mikey did not disappoint us at all but delivered. I found out about PLANE SAVERS through the site AIRLINERS.NET. That was a lucky break as I do not like television (haven't had one since I moved out of Alaska). I watched half the series Ice Pilots on TV and the other half on my laptop without having to pay for a server. Wow. So the plane looks great and so do the volunteers. Keep it up. You younger guys will have a great future. PS my last DC3 ride was in Yakutat Alaska to DRY BAY. Only a 70 mile run only to land on a short dirt runway with a dog leg in the middle and usually a moose or brown bear watching planes full of salmon go by.How MAJESTIC airlines was that?

Rene Vandenborre ~ As a student at ENA I passed this sleeping beauty twice daily on a grueling public transit route and once said to a fellow traveling class mate "She will fly again one day, probably one day soon due to all this C-Series stuff ...." and he said 'never', then he went on to tinker with his ICE to electric car conversion project after school. The volunteers, especially J and Bobby, having access to the parts plus an aviation network, ENA, the teachers, Ronny, Stella, Mickey, the dogs, now Joe the boss and the plane savers world all pulled TOGETHER for the WIN !!! A phenomenal accomplishment indeed. Hope the engine runs and taxi runs went well tonight! Cant wait to see her fly again!

The plane looks amazing, the whole Plane Savers team have done a truly awe inspiring job to bring C-FDTD up to flying status from a paddock dweller in just six weeks. I wish I had a crew like that on my Steam Train restoration (www.mrht.org.nz). This project has been an inspiration to those of us in the heritage preservation industry. I would have loved to have been able to share this journey with my Grandfather, who sadly passed away in January. He was a volunteer at the RNZAF Museum at Wigram (Christchurch New Zealand) for 29 years, and I have very fond memories of him taking me in behind the scenes and through the aircraft as a young child. Their collection includes a beautiful DC-3 that carried the Queen on her 1953 tour of New Zealand preserved in the royal tour configuration. As a RNZAF Safety and Surfaces technician Grandad (Flt Sgt W.D. Fitzharding-Jones) would have loved to see the wonderful paint job done by Stella and her assistants.

Mikey, you have established a large and very loyal following to this channel/project. I would hope you continue with this channel, at least in some form. I hope you continue as I would think myself and my fellow viewers will watch in the future. You and your crew have accomplished so much and all concerned should be so proud. 👍👍👍

Mikey, your dad is funny also, I remembered that spitfires ran counterclockwise, just like a Lancaster. Hint hint, DTD is perfect now, just waiting her crew and mission. Hope to see you in Oshkosh !

Slowly getting caught up on videos. Hopefully by tonight I'll be able to see them all. Amazing progress you guys have made! What a great, historical series to have. It's been alot of fun following along the past month or so I've been here. Loved the ending on this one - just the sight of that beach gets me emotional. Thanks again, Mikey! AAA+++ !! 👍👍

Dad at the controls, former Buffalo pilot and Grandson of former DTD pilot in the right seat + a paint scheme honoring so many things you lose count. Badass data plate inside the rear door. THIS is one of the best thought out builds I've ever seen of ANY type of vehicle. I don't know you Mikey but I'd sure like to shake your hand someday.

Good comment Chris, I may have crossed path's with your G/Dad in Ottawa in the 60's, keeping DTD airworthy.

She’s looking beautiful, I get quite emotional watching your videos, goodness knows how I will feel on the 6th, the roundals and Buffalo decal are a wonderful detail, thank you.

A "rivet brush" is a good was to install vinyl around rivets.... Kinda like a stiff horse hair brush that does the same thing as his fingers.... but faster.
