Honestly, I would love to see Henry Cavill as 007 partially, because he’s one of the very few actors in the running so far that perfectly fits the description of Ian Fleming’s original character, with the only exception, is being the scar on his right cheek, and him being a little bit more bulky. So far the most accurate depiction of Ian Fleming’s 007 has been Timothy Dalton in both the living, daylights and license to kill. Not just in how the character performs, but how he actually looks. Henry Cavill is already shown. He can play a character very similar to bond in both the man from uncle and also the mission impossible film he started. I was skeptical about him being that he was superman, but after seeing him in the man from uncle, I’m convinced he would be a great 007. And speaking of someone who’s actually read the majority of Ian Fleming‘s original novels, I would say Daniel Craig is probably the second most accurate version of the character in the way that he behaves. 007 in the novels really hates the fact that he is the double 0 in the first place, and in the living daylights even tells one of his coworkers that he really hopes he loses his double oh number for this regarding orders. The bond of the novels deals with depression, alcoholism, and emotional malaise throughout most of his books. He doesn’t even get a sense of humor until the sixth book in the series.

I was disappointed in Craig's casting initially but ended up quite liking him in the end. I agree with you about him being a rather surly and joyless Bond. Character-wise, I think Vesper's death affected him deeply and he became even more cold and brutal after losing her. Bond is also never quite the same after losing Tracy di Vicenzo at the end of On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

I liked Daniel Craig as Bond; and loved what he did with it. In style terms I think he hit the mark. Bond is a 30 something Naval Commander and Craig’s styling allowed 25-45 something modern men to have a peg on which to hang their hat. Worked for me.

Age wise he will be in more than good enough shape as people are aging more slowly these days. Mr Cavill probably follows the Chaps Guide way of life and will be in good nick! At 50 he will still be capable of leaping about and duffing up villains. Another close contender, Jones, Ash Jones. Servant of Queen, now King and Country. Debonair with the military background. We would have gadgets galore, harpoon fountain pens, armour plated leather attache cases and Swiss watches with laser beams. Bond as it should be. You get my vote Sir 💯

Merry Christmas, Ash. Dalton, the worst dressed Bond despite being my personal favourite, was the most faithful to Fleming. Roger was my personal favourite in terms of style (that impeccable tie knot! Those lapels!) and Craig was well turned out in Casino Royale when he was dressed by Brioni. Craig only became a sartorial nightmare when Tom Ford poisoned the franchise with his un-British lines and fit. I agree that the actor must be British/Irish and white since Fleming insisted that Bond is a racist white supremacist as we see in the novels (Live and Let Die, Dr. No and The Man with the Golden Gun, for example).

Brace for Impact... 'No Time to Die' set some clues on where the franchise is going. Barbara Broccoli has signaled she wants to 'modernize' the franchise and 'bring it current'. No Time to Die tested many themes and how receptive they were by audiences will shape the direction of the next steps in the franchise. I believe there will be more women playing villain roles and the retirement of Bond as the 'bed hopping secret agent'. As Ms. Broccoli has the keys to the franchise, I suspect she will test whether to franchise will rely on James Bond solely or have several active agents pursing the 'baddies' as it will open up more storylines aka Marvel comics.

It’s going to be awful. The latest Bond novel was truly laughable ( unintentionally may I add ) absolutely terribly written, agenda driven, lumpen and transparently anti British. Bonds character was unrecognisable. It made you think does this person writing this drivel who’s been hired for the job actually like the character/franchise, as I say it was unintentionally hilarious but then the writer is/was a comedic actor of note I suppose. So who knows. If the franchise goes all inclusive, our greatest strength, and dare I say it “ woke “ and at this point I rather suspect it will then it deserves to tank. Just look at the way cinema/media and so forth is going, Marvel/Disney 🤦🏼♂️ Go woke go broke goes the saying 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Bond Good afternoon, Ash and the assembled “Chappage” This may be a rambling comment, I am a couple of days late to this party, and I haven’t even put my Bowtie on. My initial thoughts were Not Cavill, Hardy, nor Elba, before even watching the video. Reasons; Cavill- Too old, A-list price point, too recognisable Superman/ The Witcher, now tied to Amazon for Warhammer. Hardy- Too old, A-list price point, Too rough and ready Elba- Too old, Has had his own “vehicle” previously in Luther and Pacific Rim, would he be cast purely to meet current “direction of travel” in the casting business? As to your points and names in the frame: Keep the base character the same i.e. White, British, Heterosexual, Mid-30s man, with a high success rate with the ladies. I would include Athletic in the post-Craig era, the physicality bar having been set high. Potential Actors: ATJ, who? May be, as you say, ripe for the role and “unknown enough” to put a new stamp on the franchise. HC- see my points (above) TH- ditto JN- Could do well. His star rose in Happy Valley. He too, may be ripe for his own star vehicle. TH- A list price point, beholden to Marvel for the omnipresent character of Loki. I also think he may be past his prime for Bond. Having watched this video and returned to FB and my notepad to consider your points, I saw a Telegraph article posing another actor as a potential Bond- Jack Lowden. I am now aware of his work but I may read the article further. In closing. I hope the next Bond does not pander to the current cultural shift. I will also add that I have not yet watched NTTD. *Salutes

To me, criteria for the next Bond can partly come down to whether we're treating the film series as its own universe with elements to draw from (and room to evolve) or are looking to Fleming for basic requirements (looks, age, etc). For me, race and general appearance are negotiable as long as he's a good looking male with a convincing British accent. Just my view - the cinematic Bond has always evolved with the era, and if a stockier blonde guy (to me) did a good job, so could a non white guy. But again, comes down to how important one views Fleming as a source. Within reason, I'm less concerned about age given how well today's stars stay fit. 41 on Henry Cavill looks better than 33 on Connery. Less worried about the actor's age if they can pull off a mid 30s character in their debut film.
@renangaidheal13208 ай бұрын
The too tight Tom Ford suits were less about fashion we might emulate than they were a statement about this "new" Bond's deep psychological wounds---we see in Casino Royale how Vesper penetrates his armor to intimacy. Note how she first sees right through his orphaned childhood on the train ride and later tells him "there are dinner jackets and then there are dinner jackets" because she knows just how he wears his pain. He falls in love--she does too. Is there a more sensual or vulnerable scene than the two of them wearing respectively a tuxedo and black dinner dress in the shower after the murder of villains and rescue? But at last she betrays him. The rest of his wardrobe speaks to a heart steeled for stochastic terror. We find him failing to save his endangered surrogate mother (M), making implacable duty to country serve as mitigating purpose, further confronted with tests of loyalty and trust, and at last dying for true love: his suits are as tight as his worn heart; his changes in wardrobe are emotional shields made personal fortifications and (in)vulnerable barricades. Craig brought primal physicality and a violence to Bond that had been previously been downplayed. I think all of this speaks to his tenuous hold on a soul worn threadbare but with real sartorial style. Will that also be his future?

I’m in my 70s and was raised on the pulps - which corrupted me past redemption of course. My criterion for a Bond flick is how well it captures the style and worldview of the originals, by which I’d say that “Casino Royale” and “License to Kill” were the recent ones that measure up best. Bond is a man from the distant past, while the Bond universe has become so outlandish that it’s a parallel reality. The logical next step for Hollyweird is to stick Wyatt Earp into a Star Trek flick. So - I haven’t bothered with the latest ones, and I may be dead by the next one. But if they come up some new George Smiley films I’ll be thrilled. As for skin color. There was no problem giving Jeffrey Wright the role of Felix, so I can’t see any problem with a series about a black CIA agent. How about a fictionalized version of Malcolm Nance? Maybe you know of him. Former CIA, Navy Seal, recently spent time in Ukraine, shows up on TV as a political commentator, and looks a lot like Laurence Fishburne in “John Wick.” Every time I see him I expect him to come out with Fishburne’s tagline. “I! AM! PISSED!!!”

My guess is - the spy genre is as dead as the western TV series.

Very interesting view, Ash. Daniel Craig is an excellent actor and I highly appreciate his movies. Why is Connery the better Bond? For exactly the same reasons as yours: Daniel’s Bond always left me slightly depressed after every movie. That he died at the end, was a major mistake which bears strong resemblance to authors who desperately try to add tension by involving children being kidnapped or killed. The last resort for many thriller authors. And to do something new with Bond, they let him die. But we all know that Bond never dies. In case he is at the heart of an exploding car, beating up the bad guys, Bond eventually appears out of this chaos, with a clean haircut and white shirt without stains. Which, at the end, shows all the humour which made the Connery and Moore films so smart 😎😎👍🏻 As for the Bond girls, Ursula on the beach is the best. Try to compare her to the deadly serious and depressed mother of Bonds daughter in NTTD. Holy Cow.

Henry Cavill would be my first choice he has the perfect look, the perfect age, there are another 5 other established actors in the same age bracket (38 - 42) and two younger wildcards. If they move beyond that, I may not continue with the franchise. 100% agree with the 'Age' debate, to get to where James Bond is in his career, he is not only a experienced agent but has a past carer (Armed forces, Special forces, Naval Intelligence etc) before getting into Mi5/6 and ultimately the 00 program. He is not going to be a young guy, but not old either. but to start off the franchise, to get 4 - 5 films out of him, 38 - 42 (Piers Brosnan was about 42 in GolenEye and he didn't appear too old at all).

I believe if he is to be resurrected a new style cinema directed by an astute gifted director(Christopher Nolan) who is not bound by Eon's confusion might do the trick. I may be divulging my age here but a retro re-boot a la 'Last Night in Soho' style would be fantastic ?! Actors? well he must be new, unknown and lets face it actors are a dime a dozen and a necessary evil as the genius Hitchcock used to say! BTW a Patrick McGoohan-like actor would be ideal! I rest my case!

Should certainly be Henry Cavill with Richard Madden as a wild card choice

Craig is my favorite Bond of all times. So let’s see who will eff it up now. 🕐⚙️🍸

He was the worse Bond by a country mile.

I think the best option is to stop making Bond movies for a while. As 'The Message' is more important to people making movies than anything else, going without 007 for a few years is a much better option than having a woke 007 that has nothing at all to do with the character as written/previously portrayed.

James Bond is an upper middle class English gentleman of Scottish and Swiss ancestry. Craig looked like and played Bond as a thug and a depressive, unattractive one at that.

Well thankfully, its blessed with British Actors that could take up the Mantle of Playing James Bond, some included in the list and others missed like Richard Madden, Sam Heughan and Charlie Hunnam. These three actors would be take a unique role and make it their own! End of the day it will come down to Barbara broccoli and her Management Circle. I just hope they keep to the British traditions of James Bond and getting back into proper British suits, Tweeds and Barbour jackets. Those Tom Ford Cuts are not suitable for the everyday man and way too Italian for me and lets remember he is a British Icon First and Foremost! Chees Ash and fellow Chaps.

Connery and Moore were the best Bonds. I like classic Bond. 1995's Goldeneye was probably the last proper Bond and even then he was losing it a bit. Nowadays Bond has had to evolve to keep up with characters like Ethan and Bourne. When a new Bond film is announced, fanboys care more about what car he'll be driving, who'll be singing the theme tune. Plus, the box-ticking wokery that has to be shovelled into every film nowadays invariably drags its quality and entertainment down.

It is a dilemma that requires careful study. On the one hand, the character must be updated to the contemporary context in terms of verisimilitude and artistic value. On the other hand, he must be faithful to the past and be recognizable within the context that defines his biography as a character. And, furthermore, it must continue to operate as a popular reference in terms of economic profitability. Personally, I think it's hard to avoid failure in the next election: any flirtation with the "woke" ideology would ruin the character just as much as subjecting him to crazy chases or explosions resolved with Ethan Hunt-style gadgets, which are no longer believable nor enjoyable for the mature viewer. In my opinion, the line to follow is to take the character to the realistic darkness that George Smiley embodies and leave the action behind, providing the character with moral depth and surrounding him with more complex plots at a narrative level. It is a proposal that was already outlined in Skyfall and that can now be carried out with further development. However, if you choose to bury it in more supercars, cutting-edge technology, explosive women and very expensive accessories, I will have the feeling of being in front of a transcript of Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan, whose films are impossible to watch today without feeling something of other people's shame. Regarding the choice of actor, I would opt for a mature profile, less athletic and more charismatic, with the ability to fill the psychological depth that I think the character deserves.

If Disney has anything to do with it, the next Bond will be Whoopi Goldberg.

Dear Sir , I find your videos overall are of good value regarding classic gentlemen attire, for that topic I suggest Chris Hemsworth, he can act as refined gentleman plus he can act tough action like his movie extraction.

I really, really would like Henry Cavill to be the Next James Bond, he's 41 now so he's in a window where he's not too old and not too young.
@grantjukes81848 ай бұрын
It would have been great to have Cavill as Bond, but agree that he is now too old. If memory serves me, Fleming had Hoagy Carmichael in mind and not David Niven when describing Bond. It was Harry Saltzman and Chubby Broccali that casted Connery, Fleming had no say in the casting having sold the film rights.
