2024 stats: JJ had 240 completions. Maye had 269 completions. ... but somehow "JJ did not throw the ball" JJ had 9.0 yards per attempt. Maye had 8.5 yard per attempt. ... but somehow JJ cannot throw it long. JJ had 72% completion percentage Maye had a 63% completions percentage. JJ had 0.27 INTs per game. Maye had 0.75 INTs per game... almost THREE TIMES HIGHER! ... but somehow "JJ has accuracy problems". JJ had passing efficiency rating of 167 (Sports Reference) Maye had a passing efficiency rating of 149. ... but somehow Maye is clearly the better passer JJ is YOUNGER than Maye ... but somehow Maye has time to grow, but JJ is what he is, a "game manager".

A QB can't throw, if his oline can't give them time. A QB can't stay healthy if the Oline can't protect him. A QB can't thrive is he has no one to throw to, better yet get open so they can be thrown to. You can put any qb behind that line last year and that QB would not be good. Would there be flashes. Mathew Stafford constantly make his WRs better, Patty just won a Super Bowl in a year where everyone was screaming they need new WRs. Jordan Love made his WRs better. The difference is they actually have talent at throwing the ball. Even Washingtons QB was leading the league in passing yards for a good part of last year and he lead the league in getting sacked with zero weapons. I will personally guarantee you that out of these teams you named, you would pick any WR's to be on your personally team. Not one. You say less coverage against the WR's. Literally and factually as soon as the ball was hiked, a defensive player was already in DJ's face. Fact. Look at the games last year and prove that wrong. Daniel Jones last season threw 6 interceptions in the 6 games that he played. He threw for 2 touchdowns in that same span. Even if you think he doesnt have help, by this point in your career, you have to be better than that if you are a franchise QB. He clearly isn't. Giants should take a QB at some point and reset the QB clock, especially after giving Daniel Jones that ridiculous contract. Thats how you get a QB some help.

Michigan fan here, and big fan of JJ. That said, while JJ likely has a higher ceiling and more versatility than Maye, Maye is a more polished and developed passer right now. JJ is a better pick for the future while Maye is a better pick for a team that needs immediate production.

He’s 27-1 as a starter with 2 Conference Championships and a National Championship. He didn’t throw a lot volume-wise but he made a lot of throws that kept drives going that ended with points and wins. He’s also smart, fast, agile, and the consummate team player. Best of all, he can get even better. He’s a smart pick for a team that can develop him the right way. Maye throws a good ball but he’s not as accurate, not as poised, and lost 9 games in the ACC, which is maybe the 3rd best conference.

Comparing the two situations is pointless as Maye didn’t have the same resources as JJ and was asked to do more with his arm than JJ was. There’s a reason why he didn’t throw many passes against Penn state or why he had some really questionable games against BG and Maryland. Also, the whole winning argument is pointless in College. If that was a determining factor then we would’ve seen Stetson Bennet chosen over Stroud and Bryce young.

JJ threw 3 picks against BG, 2 of which were his fault. He also threw 2 TD passes, which is 2 more than Maye threw against Appalachian State, a team he needed 2 overtimes to beat. Michigan beat BG 31-6. North Carolina went to 2 OT’s against App state, despite 234 yards rushing from their RB. So if you want to cherry pick games, I have 9 NC losses to choose from. You have 1 Michigan loss. JJ played with a high ankle sprain he suffered in the 2nd quarter of the Penn State game. He played well enough and did what needed to be done to beat them, Maryland, Ohio State, Alabama, and Washington…those are 5 teams North Carolina would absolutely lose to without question.
