What a dumb competition.... NBA Cup.😂😂😂 Whats the point of a Cup in a Closed league with Salary Cap? It makes sense in a open league with 0 salary cap like futbol for English Premier league that's structured as a Pyramid with divisions with promotion and relegation wherein who ever wins the cup gets Money for there clubs to buy players in the future and also pay the players on the team right now but what does the winner of the NBA Cup get? that's an interesting point. However, Emirates already sponsored the tournament, so isn't that point enough? That's money for the league that then proliferates to the teams. Your point still remains though that the individual teams aren't particularly incentivized to win beyond the money the players get directly and the perceived prestige for the winners. I'm not sure about the ratings but I'm sure the final rounds of the tournament get more eyes than regular season games too, so that's a plus too and if last year was anything to go by, the actually play was playoff style; something we never get that early in the regular season.
