As a Yankee hater, I hope they sign him. For what some fool team will pay him, he will ruin the team's flexibility with payroll when it comes to signing a truly needed player. Remember when Texas traded Alex Rodriguez just as he was reaching his prime and paid the Yankees to take him? I hope Soto gets part of the Yankees ownership.. Oh, and you can thank the Dodgers for overpaying Ohtani 70M a year (even if deferred) and ruining the market for every other team.
@JK-rl3ge3 сағат бұрын
I agree with everything except the last part. That's a rare deal. Ohtani is a frugal guy and he's basically looking at a retirement payday at the end. 99% of anyone else would not take that deal, 2 million a year (probably 1.4 or 1.5 after taxes).
@girishbatavi2 сағат бұрын
I can't agree with your point about the Ohtani Deal. He brings revenue to the team through advertisements, tourists to LA, etc. So whatever is paid to him is already getting repaid. I don't care whether he is worth 700 million or not, even if he flops in the next nine years.
@ohger12 сағат бұрын
@@girishbatavi That's short-sighted on the Dodger's part. Will the Dodgers not need to pay another ballplayer some day? Everyone they have to pay from now on is going to cost them a lot more. Ohtani added 150M to Teoscar's asking price..
@girishbataviСағат бұрын
@@ohger1 Front office needs to weigh in whether it is worth it to pay more to Teo or others. Regional Baseball TV broadcast is in tatters, MLB looking for solutions. Other 27 teams need to spend on talent and market. Ohtani deal is worth only 30 million to 44 million in present value per year. I want everyone to not go by 700 million number. I do agree players asking for more just as Ohtani got, but they have ask themselves whether they are worth it. P.S. Cole opted out of contract from NYY. NYY may void and pay him 36 mil just to keep him one more year.

Yeah. It’s just a question of how much they’re willing to pay. If he stays healthy, he’s gonna score 100 runs. He’s gonna bat in around 100. He’s going to make pitchers sweat. One of the top 5 offensive players right now, easy.
@jasoncarter93564 сағат бұрын
I don't think Soto is a good teammate. Soto is out for Soto only and its obvious in the way he approaches the game. His body type is thicker so the last 3rd of a 10 year deal is going to be an anchor in the mud.

I hear rumors my Pirates are willing to offer him up to one million dollars! I think that would triple their team payroll! 😁 The real joke is the Pirates have shown they have zero interest in winning. I wish there was relegation because their ownership is more suited to AA or High-A. 🤬 But, seriously, I'd bet on the Mets signing him. I think they've pretty much said they're going to be up there in trying to sign him.

I am a Washington Baseball fan. I was a big Soto fan when he was in Washington and still am a Soro fan. I would love to see him back in DC. The Nationlas will surprise people next year. This young team is going to win a lot of games next year. I would like to see them pick up a pitcher to replace Corbin. But with Corbin and Strasburg gone. That should free up some money at the right time to get Soto back. Baltimore has there fingers in Washington's pocket from the deal to get the Nationals in DC . That may be a problem for Washington. It would be quite a coup for Tony Risso to get Soto back after stripping so many good prospects from the Podraies. I think Soto liked playing in DC. So I am keeping my fingers crossed.

It's not smart to pay so much money for a hitter - Why?, because MLB is a very slow-moving organization. . Currently, the pitchers have too much of an advantage over hitters. (Something that needs to be more leveled out) This causes even the best hitter to not shine enough. I think baseball needs to evolve more, for be more dynamic and fun. For that, some baseball rules need to be modified to give some advantage to hitters. Sadly, MLB has not yet grasped this (not enough) .

Sox have a bunch of problems trying to fit Soto onto this team. First they're already lefty heavy. Second, RF in Fenway is at least a -10% or whatever for him as opposed to +20% in the Bronx. Third, he can't play RF in Fenway. Fourth, if the Sox play him in LF or DH they are going to have to basically delete another player/contract which adds not subtracts salary on top of the $500-1000M they'll have to pay Soto. They won't. Lastly, the real problem with the Sox is pitching not hitting. If they sign Soto their pitching will be terrible for a decade because they won't have any money left. They'll end up with Soto and Devers and can't resign any of the young talent that is presently the core of the team. Does sound like a good idea does it? Sounds A Rod in Texas or whatever, Trout in LA. Yuck.
@SasquatchTour3 сағат бұрын
So basically Soto is a $700 million DH. Dodgers won't pay that for Soto since they already have a $700 million dollar man that is far more valuable with marketing to recoup cost. As far as game style and attitude Dodgers had Yasiel Puig who was a much better defender than Soto but was a Diva in the clubhouse. Dodgers could have resigned him when they needed bat help and didn't do it. I'd bet the Dodgers are out. Giants are desperate to not be basement contenders with the Rockies in the west, Mets, Redsox, and Yankees would be my guess. Willy Adames would be the player I'd target if I were the LADs.
@scullystie4389Сағат бұрын
I think the Dodgers will probably just be in the hunt to drive up the price their rivals will have to pay. While Soto is a generational batting talent he's kind of redundant for that team everywhere else. I think they will prioritize resigning their free agents like Teoscar Hernandez and Walker Buehler.
@SasquatchTour59 минут бұрын
@ I know this is super far out there but if NYY sign Soto to help with cash flow and the need for a left fielder what trade pieces and cash would have to happen to get Judge? Soto won't take a deferred payment. The Dodgers have a lot of excess pitchers coming back. Would you trade Lux in the package and to get rid of Torres since he is a lazy player? Judges 360 million contract is half of Sotos. Yankees would then be free to sign Bellinger at CF. Interesting possibilities.

Are the Tigers really ready to take on a huge contract like that? They had a great run late, but need starting pitching a lot more than someone like Soto. There’s also a year left on Baez’s contract.
@landen35783 сағат бұрын
@@RobKandellI honestly don't know to be honest but I'm leaning towards no. By the way my Tigers are only half way done with getting through Baez's contract because his contract is actually not up until after 2027 unless he opts out of the deal which would be a shocker.

@@landen3578 - I had to look it up, but you’re right. I thought I remembered reading in the Freep that it ended in 2025, but I obviously remembered it wrong. Soto isn't worth $600 million. Whatever team signs him will regret it. His defense and baserunning are average at best. I hope the Yankees resign him. I think he will resign with the Yankees or go to the Mets or Phillies. The Giants will make offers, but he wants the East Coast.
