It's unlikely there will be dead rubber the last couple of rounds. Even if you're already qualified, the draw will be seeded and not random. So in the play-off round the 9th placed teams plays 24th placed team, 10th placed team plays 23rd placed team etc... Also the 1st placed team will then play the winner off 16th vs 17th. 2nd placed team plays winner 15th vs 18th etc... Numbers 1 and 2 of the league will also be put on the complete other side of the bracket, so can only face eachother in the final.

As a Liverpool fan, after Real Madrid, I think Arsenal is probably the most difficult team to play in two games right now. I still am of the opinion that City, Bayern and Real are better than them and have higher quality players overall and when it comes to experience/mentality in Europe, obviously Arsenal are far away from them, but what makes them extremely tough opponent is their tactical versatility. I would rather Liverpool play Bayern with Kompany or even City, because even though in an odd game they can destroy us, at least they will give you more chances to hurt them, they try to dominate the play and Liverpool will too, so it will be an end to end game while with Arsenal you're not really sure. Maybe when they are away against a big team, they will play really pragmatic/conservative football, will wait for mistakes to catch you on a break, they're one of the best teams at set-pieces, they're big, tall, physical and their defence is imperius and that makes them tricky to play against. Then at home they will press you constantly and try to get a goal or two in the first half, then in the second play more pragmatically again and their defence is tough to break. I don't know, Arsenal are definitely one of the favorites to win the CL, the problem they need to solve if they can go past this mental block when they play in Europe, but I would expect Madrid to win it again, unfortunately. City are better and will play Madrid off the park like they usually do, but Real always find a way even if it's not pretty, so I don't see City winning CL this season.

It's City and Real Madrid that are the only real contenders. Who wins out of them two depends on when they'd play each other. I'd feel like Madrid could win a one-off game like the final because that's their wheelhouse. No team is better in that pressure-cooker moment. However, over two legs like a Quarters or a Semi... i'd fancy City to get the aggregate score. That's not to say they're bulletproof. Arsenal could knock City out as they seem to have their number... but Arsenal can't win the whole thing and semis would be their very limit. Liverpool, Bayern and Dortmund would be my outsiders. People are really sleeping on Bayern. They should have beaten Madrid in the semis last year and then it would have been theirs for the taking in the final. That Bayern team has only got better since and i think their league form will help with confidence that they didnt have last year. Madrid should always be the favourites for the CL, but losing Kroos is bigger than gaining Mbappe for me. I have a feeling they won't win anything this season having finally having competition in the league. City without Rodri and their poor quality fans dont fill me with any confidence. For me its Bayern to win it.

It’s Real Madrid and it’s not even close. City is built to win a league. That’s why all their players are 8/10s. They have 20 guys who are 7-8/10s which makes them up there as top contenders. But Madrid just fields the best players in every single position. They may not have the depth of the other teams, although that may not be true this year. But what Madrid has is just game changers. We have Jude who’s the best player in the world, and Vini who’s the best player in the world. Oh and we added Mbappé who’s the best player in the world. I swear come next year when Rodri comes as well, who’s also the best player in the world. The English fans will still not accept the truth that Madrid are just inevitable. They’re the boogeyman. They’re who your heroes fear when they sleep.

New format does nothing but add more games to the calendar, and give the bigger clubs and even greater advantage of going thru. In the previous format, groups could be won or lost by just 1 loss. We would have a "Group of Death" to be excited about. And, there was more to play for with 3rd place teams dropping into Europa League. Now, it's just the super league but with the champions league name. What a snooze fest this match week was.
