God damn Scott fucking Templeton. This scene is especially infuriating because it has Alma in the background doing GOOD reporting work.

The Wire excels at (amongst many other things) showing how an organization/system is corrupt even though most of its members are trying to act morally but fails because a few bad actors inside it are covered for by bosses who are under pressure to show statistical progress that is detached from real progress. It applies to police, drug dealers, schools, newspapers, addiction service.

So while newspapers are dying because of the internet, real journalism is dying, too. Whatever Alma can have from her source is going to be duller, slower and more expensive to produce than the quote asshole wrote in about 3 seconds. Do people appreciate fiction more than real life? Apparently so.
