Taryl's home made track sled, snow dog, snow kitty whatever you wanna call it is in its final stages finally before painting and this thing is FAST now. Taryl goes over how he figured the gear ratio and ended up getting more speed out of this beast than he needs. He tries it in snow and on a nice sunny day as well so you can get a feel for how well it performs in both weather conditions. Check out parts 1-3 for the full build. And There's Your Dinner!!

I think that snow kitty is a pretty cool build. I’ve got a couple conveyor belts. Probably enough for dozens of those but I’ll start with one. Heavy duty too. I could build a trailer for taking the trash to the curb. I’m already doing it in my head. If I get it completed I’ll send a picture. Thanks for the inspiration. It looks like a lot of fun too. My wife thinks I’ll never grow up!

I just LOVE your videos! I'm a retired Master Locksmith, just now learning how to repair small engines (a fellow Hoosier, transplanted to Texas). Your videos are very informative, and so entertaining that it makes watching other (grass rats') channels boring. I appreciate what you bring to the industry from all your accumulated experience. Next time I visit my friends and family in Indiana (Brazil, Rockville, Indianapolis), I'll make an effort to visit your shop.

Drilling the shaft to allow the set screw to clamp to the divot in the shaft is a good idea. It also makes it easier to remove the sprocket at a later date because the set screw doesn't mar up the shaft. Another method of securing the set screw is to put a second set screw on top of the first set screw. I found out the hard way that older Wheel Horse tractors did that. Nice build!

i love the surplus center. i have bought tires and wheels, the same keyed shafting, sprockets, and a bulk roll of 420 chain you got and pillow bearings, their $50 179cc snow blower engine with a centrifugal clutch for a go kart i built, lots of hydraulic components for other projects, as well as switches and electrical components. i flatten out the packing paper, and roll it up because it makes excellent masking paper for when i paint things that costs me nothing. this sno-kitty should be tons o' fun come next winter.

Got an idea that would help in really deep snow. You can run right up to a snow bank and not get stuck. If sitting idle on the snow and the snow dog sinks in a bit, no problem. The idea is mounting a ramp in front of east track. Trailer fenders could be cut and mounted upside down or they could be fabricated out of heavy gauge sheetmetal. Can the tracks can not be lowered for more ground clearance? Some skis to replace the wheels with might be a plus. I like your machine and hope to see more progress. If you get yours dialed in in a way that works for you, I might copy it lol. Much easier to let someone else do the R&R. ;)

Taryl, I bet your man with the mill has a ton of spacers, collars etc laying around. I'd ask him if he has any he doesn't want. I ended up with several five gallon mud buckets full that way. I was 15 years old and dumpster diving outside of a machine shop and the machinist came outside and we talked a while. He was really nice and appreciated my interest in the same things as him. He offered me more than I could fit on the home made trailer I was towing with my bike.

You could add an aireator setup under the riding section and use it to airate lawns. Your weight from drsiving it would allow the tines to dig in. You probably have a broken airator in your stash of old broken machines. Also consider mounting a set of skis on the cart for snow use. An old pair of skis cut down to say 14 inches long would do well. Keep up the good work.

Taryl, you are using a Torqe-a-verter, so you don't want to use the engine rpm in the speed formula. When the engine is running at it's max rpm, the Torqe-a-verter is in over drive and it's small sprocket is actually rotating faster than the engine. Read the manual and it will explain how it goes from reduction to overdrive. You have to determine the rpm of that small sprocket when the engine is at max speed. Hope that helps. Be careful on that thing. It's a real jungle out there!

Very Cool build! I think your extra speed is from the final drive diameter with the rubber track installed, not the sprocket alone. So basically the height of the top of the track at the center of the final drive track sprocket. Amazing how stable it is at that speed. Steers pretty well too. Just a great build.

Hey when you add a headlight, make sure you add a incandescent headlight. Just my opinion. Here’s why an LED headlight will gather snow over it while you’re snowblowing and it will not melt the snow so you will have to clear off the headlight constantly. I know this because I added LED lights to my snowplow, and I had to switch back to incandescent. Great video !!!😊😊😊

I had a landscaping buggy with tracks that I used to work on irrigation center pivot systems. It was 28" wide and would just fit down 30" rows. It sure beat carrying a gearbox or tire into a broken pivot in the middle of a corn field. The beach groomer machine reminded me of the pivot buggy. I am kind of surprised the snow blower tracks hold together at 25 mph, but I guess I got to, since I seen it with my own eyes (stolen from VGG)
