It’s Welsh in origin. It could be meaning “chariot” which sounds more Roman occupation. Or, it could mean “weir” which was a common way of fishing with basket like traps in smaller brooks and waterways. The English variant has more specific places like Cheshire and Cumberland, but it is a very old name. Good luck my friend!

I looked nothing like my father until I was fifty then all of a sudden I looked exactly like him and nothing like I had looked in my youth. It's funny because I looked so unlike him that certain members of his family doubted I was his son. Now I look more like him than he does
