Another great option is Believer's Bible Commentary by William MacDonald. It is about 2400 pages long. It is very conservative and pre-millennial. It also includes some practical application.

I own both the New Bible Commentary and the Bible Knowledge Commentary (BKC). Your descriptions of both were concise and helpful. My personal viewpoint is basically pre-millenial. Sometimes I feel the authors in the BKC try "too hard" to insert that perspective in every nook and cranny (especially the Old Testament.) So I actually enjoy reading another point of view (for example - Ferguson writing on Daniel.) I dislike rigidity especially when other brilliant believers can open your mind and produce a more humble approach to interpreting Scripture. Without the Holy Spirit, we can easily major in the minors. There can be no compromise on the gospel (or justification by faith.) But I can easily see how many believers do not believe in the rapture while others expect it next Thursday! Thanks again for a most helpful presentation.

Although I do have some individual commentaries the space I have for books is limited so one volume commentaries are something I look for....😁

My commentary is free & short. The religious are ludicrous, avoided like the old women with too many cats. Freud wrote the antidote to Christianity is literacy. Nothing fails like prayers in a children's hospital. Who sends their children to prophet trade-school? If there were a god, then would there be any demand for scripture interpretations by various podium-jockeys using fantasyland vocabulary? These are the religious, the wolves in sheep's clothing. Even Jesus says faith is worthless or you could order mountains to move about. The scam works with faith & prayers, suggesting we all should travel with one foot in their fantasyland. Theologians acquire grand titles without certification from a deity, & project certainty using fantasyland vocabulary in an academic setting to compensate for lack of reason. We really should address the social acceptance of large numbers of people speaking a fantasyland vocabulary & openly indulging in the deceit of religious belief as a tool of fascism. It was secular law & order ending the inquisitions & witch-killings. The Christians slapped their books on the Old Testament, & the Mormons glued theirs on to them both, thus proving Christians lack quality-control. As if God does not have a perfect record of doing nothing, as if we had no reason for the saying: God helps those helping themselves.

The best bible commentary is the KJB bible itself. ALL anything else is the commentary of men. 1Cor 2:13 KJV Which things also we speak, in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
@BestBibleCommentaries
@BestBibleCommentaries 5 ай бұрын
The verse you cite doesn't mention the KJV, so how did you come to that conclusion? It wasn't taught to you by a man was it? The KJV is an excellent translation, but the pride exhibited in this particular view is staggering.
@Believe_the_Bible
@Believe_the_Bible 5 ай бұрын
@@BestBibleCommentaries Silly man, of course the KJB is not mentioned in a verse in the bible. Neither is any other translation including even the originals, are not mentioned by name. The only spiritual thing we can compare to a spiritual thing, is the word of God. It sure isn't people or commentaries of men. The KJB is the only bible that has its own built in reference system between verses. It also has it own dictionary for many words. unlike every other English bible version. Pride? Okay, here comes the insults because I choose to believe God when He said His word is true, pure and that He preserved it. I find that to be in the KJB. I like to think it is confidence, trust and faith in God at His word when He said He would keep His word. So tell me where do you think the word of God is? The one that Jesus Himself talks about, the true, pure, preserved one. Matt 24:35 KJV Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
@BestBibleCommentaries
@BestBibleCommentaries 5 ай бұрын
@@Believe_the_Bible It's not a personal insult, brother. I just think that refusing to listen to (or read) other brothers in Christ, when the Bible tells us to seek wisdom from others and gives the church men to preach (not just read) his Word, is an inconsistent and arrogant view. Personally, I want to be humble enough to listen to a dear brother in the Lord who has, for example, studied and taught Ephesians for 40 years. If I would listen to such a man preach, why wouldn't I read what he has written? For me to say, "No, I don't think that man has anything to teach me," is prideful. It minimizes how God has given His bride gifted preachers, teachers, and writers. Bible commentaries don't carry Apostolic authority as the New Testament does, and preaching today isn't done by Apostles. I think we would agree on those things. Yet, is there still a benefit from preaching today, isn't there? But not benefit from writers? If a preacher can comment on Apostolic teaching, why can't writers write about it? So why should I, or anyone else, heed your comments on this topic, since obviously you are doing more than simply quoting the KJV back to me? Aren't you a "man"? Of course you are. Yet, aren't you trying to teach me something right now? Persuade me? Suggest different applications to me? It sure seems like you are, yet you are a man. So, according to your view, why should I listen to you? In fact, in this exchange, I'm reading words you have written -- and you want me to heed your words about the Bible, right? But not the words in a commentary? Again, this view comes across as prideful to me. I'll ask again, who taught you about the KJV? Was it a man? Because, like you said, the Bible, including Matthew 24:35, doesn't mention the translation. To be clear, I think the KJV is an excellent translation, and I hope believers will read it for years to come. I fully believe in the inerrancy and inspiration of Scripture, doctrines which I have defended for almost 30 years of ministry. But if you think those doctrines only apply to the KJV, you don't much about original manuscripts, church history, or orthodox Christian theology. I don't have any issue with believers, churches, or denominations declaring their love and thankfulness for the KJV and using it exclusively. I have NO problem with that. But what you're implying about other translations, and the judgments you are making about gifted writers that God has given the Church, are factually, historically, and theologically incorrect, and lead to inconsistent applications. The Word of God is the 66 Holy Spirit-inspired books of the Bible that are without error in theology, history, science, application, and more. As Jesus said, no letter of it will be removed or erased, though empires will fall and leaders will die. The Word of God will stand forever (Isa. 40:8). By the way, I have several Bibles that aren't KJV that have excellent reference systems and dictionaries. You're getting bad information from somewhere, my friend.

@BestBibleCommentaries Thank you for your reply. I understand what you are saying but allow me to clarify my view on the subject. 1. Never take anything I say as true. Only God's word is true. 2. Anything that someone says needs to be proven by scripture the way God tells us to study His word - rightly divided. II Tim 2:15 KJB only. 3. What do you do when commentaries disagree, and they do. The point is we go to the word of God not a man for it's own understanding. 4. I have never seen a commentary which exposits God's word rightly divided. I guess that is my aversion to commentaries of men. 5. Yes, we can learn from other's again only if they rightly divide the word. They are few and far between. You did not answer my question. Where is God's pure, true, preserve word of God today for us to read and study?
@BestBibleCommentaries
@BestBibleCommentaries 5 ай бұрын
1. I don't take your words as Scripture, but that doesn't mean I can't learn anything about the Bible from you. I probably could, whether you spoke it or wrote it. Maybe a parallel would be the definitions you said are in the back of your Bible. You probably learn from them, but they aren't Scripture. They are the words of men, probably holy and well-read believers. 2. I agree wholeheartedly that Scripture is our ultimate authority. Like I check preaching and teaching against the Word, I check what I read against the Word. 3. Same thing I do when two pastors disagree. I think it's wise to pray for the Spirit's help, study the Scripture myself like parallel passages, and seek wisdom, maybe from a pastor or a brother in Christ. 4. What commentaries have you seen? I just can't dismiss all commentary writers of the last 2,000 years, and conclude that NONE of them have handled Scripture correctly. Men like Augustine, Martin Luther, and Charles Spurgeon all wrote commentaries. I, for will one, will not judge them or dismiss them as offering NOTHING. Due respect, that's a baffling perspective, in my opinion, and ignores the gifts God has given to people. 5. I did. In my statement about the 66 inerrant and inspired books of the Bible. My reading varies from from the original languages to different translations, including the KJV. If that doesn't answer your question, then I'm not sure what you're asking. I want to say again, I'm glad you read the KJV. It's an excellent translation, and I would never to try dissuade someone from reading it. It seems like you love the Word, too. Well, so do I. I just don't understand the view of shunning the teachers that God has so graciously given the church for it's edification because they wrote down some of their teachings (Eph. 4:11-12, KJV). If you never read a commentary, which I know you won't, that's not a problem in my view because Scripture is sufficient. But I think it's harmful to judge believers who are edified and sanctified by reading great teachers.
