This video is intended to isolate and illustrate the steps for the Whole Brain Teaching 5 Step lesson approach. This method allows you to start at the lower levels of learning and lead you students through to higher order thinking in a single lesson. For more information check out www.wholebrainteaching.com

I hope to get to this level of teaching! First year teacher here and I'm still working on being comfortable with my teaching and lessons.

Very nice. Your use of gestures and rhythmic auditory responses are such a great way to pull in auditory and kinesthetic learners. I'm so glad I found this.

This was great. The students are actively engage. You have to have some memorization when you are teaching facts especially during a multiple choice timed test. However, the students turn and talk to explain their answer. They use gestures and encourage each other. Awesome. The most important thing is, the students are learning. Thanks for sharing this video.

Yikes - not sure if this is age appropriate for middle schoolers! Some elements of it may be adapted, such as the attention getter, turn and teach, as well as having the students share their answer with the partner. However, the faux enthusiasm and robotic, "okay" when told to turn and teach just seems unnatural.

I just started doing the "class, class, class" to get their attention. It's really different teaching middle school. I am still in-between whether I'm enjoying it or not. I came from teaching highschool and elementary (k-2nd). Middle schoolers are kind of mean.

Mr. Battle, how did you get them to respond like that. I know it must take some time, but what’s the best way to train them. And what if a student flat out refuses to comply?

WBT takes time to develop with the students, but can be quite effective when mastered. This guy has it down!

Nice integration of this method into instructional learning that I am most familiar with. Gestures where not too hokey and over done.

Wow, this is nice. But I think this is hard to do on a class with 40-60 students in the PH.

Hmm interesting, very victorian in approach thats not learning! Its memorisation!!!
@learn2bake
@learn2bake 9 жыл бұрын
It is not memorisation, it's repetition. That's the whole point! Repetition is how the brain learns. Neural pathways in the brain grow connections called dendrites. These connections grow thicker every time we repeat an action or phrase. Then, the next time we use this learned knowledge it is easier for our brains to access the information. It is called learning! That is why WBT is such an effective learning technique. This guy is an excellent teacher, and his class are fully engaged.
@melissagoudie

That's not knowledge! It's a learned phrase, There is no evidence that the students can explain what a chemical is in their own words, there's no evidence they can name chemicals used in everyday life or a chem lab. They will be able to answer What is a chemical? In an exam oh and by the way I have studied cognitive psychology at university and your understanding is very simplistic. Did you memorise phrases??

I agree with you. This is strictly memorization. I bet if you quizzed these kids a year later on the contents of this lesson they would be totally clueless. It's just not meaningful or engaging in anyway.

Actually, not at all. This is only the first stages. Follow up lessons involve a lot more higher order oriented lessons. The high school science teachers who my classes feed into (I made this video) consistently tell me that my kids, whether they are high or low academically, know and understand their basic science concepts better than any other kids they get from other schools in our district.
