Whole House Ductless Mini Split Walk Through

In this video we walk through a six zone mini split installation in Londonderry, NH. This install is going to cool/heat the whole house (besides the bathrooms). We had to get creative with this install due to limited wall space on exterior walls. In the walk through we explain how we use the basement and other areas like under the deck to hide our lineset and get it to where we need without putting slim duct around the whole house. If you have any questions feel free to ask away in the comments! Thanks for watching.

It's best not to install the unit in direct sunlight or near other heat sources. This will impact the mini split's ability to monitor indoor temperatures and perform efficiently.

Please excuse my sons picture lol curios as to how much noise these make inside/outside the home and if they heat your home as efficiently as the old baseboards. Right now I love how quickly my home gets warm but am definitely considering switching. I have vaulted ceilings and am worried at how well it works to heat the room if they were installed high up.

Thanks for the video. I need to replace my broken system.I’m in SC and don’t have a basement. An animal got into the crawl space and tore up all the duct work. I have a two story 2400 sq ft house. I really don’t want lines outside my house. can minisplit lines be put into the exterior wall instead of outside along the house? My house is old and likely a balloon construction.

It could be the condensate line is leaking or was not led to exterior properly? The 1.5 ton unit you have should be able to heat & cool around 700-800 sf in NY....so could be undersized if you are more like 900-1000sf? You would want a 2 ton unit if 1000 sf. I would contact the installer and have him check for condensate leak and test for refrigerant leak too. If refrigerant is not 100% it could reduce heating & cooling capacity. Any good reputable HVAC technician could check it out for you for $100 +/- service fee, if you don't have any warranty from initial installer.

Do they make smaller units for bathroom and walk-in closets? My home office is 10'x10' and I'm concerned that a mini split would just cycle on and off in the small rooms
@paultheplumber8665
@paultheplumber8665 Жыл бұрын
The smallest unit I'm aware of across all major brands is a 6k BTU unit. It is tough to make them work for bathrooms, unless you can do a ceiling casette. For your office you'd probably be okay.

Instead of using the slim duct on the front of the house for the Livingroom would running inside the wall be an option?

Let me rephrase that code says you have to have a means of disconnect within 5 foot of the air handler but they’ve never made us do that here. I’ve installed 100 or more units and no inspector has ever called me out and none of the other contractors I know do it.

@@paultheplumber8665 Ok thank you. Yeah I'm in the trade. I own an HVAC-R Company but i have only seen tests done comparing 1 mini split vs a traditional split system. I want to see what the real difference is between cooling a whole house with a central AC and Mini Split. Im also currently building my house and want to make that decision soon. Ive also thought about a VRF system. Which works very similar to a Ductless Mini Split
@dirtwhisperer658
@dirtwhisperer658 10 ай бұрын
@@demented392rt5 I installed 3 inverter type mini splits in my house and turned off the central air this summer. Those three units cool the entire house better and my electric bill went down from $400 to $150. We are in Florida and I put one unit in the master bdrm. It is so nice and comfortable. When we go to bed I turn off the big unit in the living room / kitchen and we can set the bdrm to 70 if we want. We love it. Long term maintenance seems to be a little bit of work as far as cleaning and maintaining but I don't mind at all. It's worth it to me.

Hi. Where is fresh air coming from with these systems? Is there a separate ducted ventilation system or not required because it's an older house with leaks? If this system was installed on a newer well-insulated house, would they also need a separate ventilation system?
@packattack1762
@packattack1762 Жыл бұрын
The air handler inside just acts as a fan sucking in air from the top and blowing out hot or cold air out the bottom. They’ve have filters on them that you get to easily by flipping the lid up and pulling them out. Then just blow them off or wash them off with water. Very efficient technology with these modern mini splits systems 👍

My outside unit control board and compressor got toasted.....had to replace entire system! Surge protection is cheap insurance at $250 ! Best to put protection between the AC disconnect and the condenser unit.
