Great tutorial. I did something similar a year ago but my install required adding a ton more PEX to have my water softner and water filtration system install on the other end of my garage.

Thank you! What filter system did you go with?
@fosty.10 күн бұрын
That's a clean setup (no pun intended). I wish i had mine set up in a basement instead of the attic.

Thank you! Dang, an attic placement does sound like a pain.

@DeeIY Yeah, and I bought a coil of PEX instead of straight pieces, so it's been fu wrestling with that up there haha.

Silly question. 🙋♂️ do you have to have a GFCI Main breaker in that box as it is within 6 feet of water?
@DeeIY25 күн бұрын
I do have a GFCI outlet stubbed out from the panel box, and that is what my emergency shut-off valve is plugged in to. The National Electrical Code (NEC) does not specifically address plumbing pipe clearance, but requires an area clear of any obstructions that is 2’-6” wide, 3’-0” deep, and 6’-6” high around the front of a panel. I have met those clearances, so no other modifications are needed.

Add UV light water filter system good idea 💡 🤓👌

That would be a great addition! I would 100% add one if I was on well water.

Shouldnt need UV on city water

I'm seriously thinking of getting a PEX A tool. I'm a real estate investor and am going to start doing some house flipping. If I can do at least some of the plumbing myself, it would save a TON of money. Plus, I like working on this kind of stuff. I've only ever worked with PEX B, though, so thinking of upping my game.

Yes, doing your own work saves so much money! That's part of why I post these videos. I know I've learned a ton from other people on KZbin.

You can also go with the cinch clamps vs the copper ring crimps. Takes a 1 handed tool to connect the rings and is much easier than trying to use a 2 handed crimper. Tool is around $50 i think and works with 1/2,3/4,and 1".

My research indicates that the SpringWell CF1 is better overall and though more expensive in the beginning, will save money over the long run.
@DeeIY29 күн бұрын
I did look at that one, but I couldn't find any evidence that it would help remove scale from the water. That was what I was looking for the most to protect my new tankless water heater. Also, I think the iSpring spin down filter is a better design than a traditional sediment filter. Thanks for watching!

Is pipe dope allowed on potable water supply lines and or fixtures in your municipality?
@DeeIY25 күн бұрын
I haven't seen anything saying it is not allowed. Also, the pipe dope I use states it can be used for potable water applications.

Is that a 1/2 Copper main?
@DeeIY6 күн бұрын
It's 3/4 copper coming into the house, but then 2 inches of 1/2 copper before the valves and transitioning to 1 inch PEX. Probably not ideal, but I have water pressure around 70 PSI so I'm not too worried.

What’s the anti-scale filter for? Does it help with hard water?
@DeeIY25 күн бұрын
The anti-scale filter will not soften the water, but it does prevent mineral buildup in pipes and appliances like water heaters and dish washers. If you have really hard water, you will have to get a water softener. There's really no way around it.
@Phil-D8324 күн бұрын
Backwashing catalytic carbon filter (and water softener if required) after the filters.
@DeeIY24 күн бұрын
That is definitely another great option. I don't see the need to have both a 3 stage system like this and a catalytic carbon filter on city water.

My question is though. What good is a filter if the pre existing pipes are caked with calcium and whatever else?
@DeeIY21 күн бұрын
That is tricky. I replaced all my galvanized pipe with pex a few years ago and it was shocking to look inside the old galvanized pipe and see how bad the build up was. I have read that having an anti-scale filter can be good for your pipes and help remove some of those caked on minerals over time, but the best course of action is to replace those pipes.

I have two standard smaller size whole house filters a sediment and a carbon. They have air bleeder valves built in on top which if I don't use the filter housing is too tight that you can't unscrew. I think you over tighten your filter housing and will pay for it when you have to change the filters. When you have to change the filters to relieve pressure you will have to open up your sediment filter, which I Like what you have but I think you should have added a larger sediment filter after it before your carbon. The other thing you can do to relieve most of the pressure is to shut off your supply and shut off your by pass then open a house faucet till the pressure is gone then close the filter exit shut off valve so the water won't backflow.
@DeeIY20 күн бұрын
A bleeder valve on the 3 stage filter would have been nice. Since I'm on city water I figured the one spin down filter would be enough. That's a good idea to relieve pressure for a filter change by opening a faucet at the same time as opening the spin down filter. I'll have to try that.

Do you need a permit to do something like this?
@DeeIY12 күн бұрын
Most areas do not require a permit for these installs, but you’ll want to check your local codes just to make sure.

Hand crimping really isn't that bad when you get in the rhythm of it. Now if I was doing hundreds of crimps a day, then I would get that tool in a heartbeat.
