Legends of Rock 'n Roll, Melbourne, Australia, 1989
Jerry Lee Lewis was born in 1935 to the poor family of Elmo and Mamie Lewis in Ferriday in Concordia Parish in eastern Louisiana, and began playing piano in his youth with his two cousins, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart. His parents mortgaged their farm to buy him a piano.
Influenced by a piano-playing older cousin Carl McVoy, the radio, and the sounds from the black juke joint across the tracks, Haney's Big House,[3] Lewis developed his own style mixing rhythm and blues, boogie-woogie, gospel, and country music, as well as ideas from established "country boogie" pianists like recording artists Moon Mullican and Merrill Moore. Soon he was playing professionally.

From 1:03 to 1:14 that look of awe and admiration from the bassist is just a MasterCard "Priceless!" moment; I've never seen him again with JLL or anybody else but he KNEW he was backing a LEGEND that night

On this day in 1958 {March 18th} a rare occurrence happen on 'American Bandstand', an artist performed live rather than by lip-sync... Jerry Lee Lewis performed three songs live; "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On" {peaked at #3 in 1957}, "Great Balls of Fire" {#2 for 2 weeks in 1958}, and "Breathless" {#7 in 1958}... He was also the first artist to perform three songs on one episode of 'Bandstand' R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012} and The Killer celebrated his 77th birthday this past September 29th...

in 1989....JLL wasn't thinking he was getting too old... could be that in place of a Steinway or Baldwin grand, he was playing an electric....

Only thing lacking is he didn't throw the piano bench, or set it on fire.

seems to be the same concert that the Everly Brothers played in (same scene, same year) , perhaps a "nostalgia" tour. In this sing song,Jerry Lee and the band are not really well in sync it seems, sounds a bit unrehearsed - but perhaps it was simply the adrenalin flowing too strong.
