Whole shad for sturgeon Willamette River, Oregon

Shad fishing on the Willamette River turned into invite for Sturgeon fishing later that evening. Met an avid fisherman who shows me how he catches the shark like looking dinosaurs with whole shad from the bank.

Equipment:
Okuma 14' rod with Daiwa Sealine casting reel. 30 lb monofilament line,
size 12 barbless hooks, 12 oz bank sinkers on sliders and 100 lb dacron leader.

All it takes is one trip to Bonneville watching oversize sturgeon sucking shad off of people’s stringers to understand why that works so well. In the fast current on the big C we cut the gill plates off too.
