Source maps always have _that_ feel to them, y'know? That sort of lonely feel. Love this series.
@ToothedKrux4 жыл бұрын
I think it's mostly because the Source engine is relatively limited in how it percieves geometry, as it really likes rectangles, but not really curves, so most map makers just stick to that to make things less confusing for the player, resulting in very blocky maps. Furthermore, many map makers who don't do huge collaborations usually use premade textures, and the textures from Valve (though mainly friom HL2) basically have aged a lot, as these textures often depict materials that have more depth, but the resolution of it just doesn't allow it to have any illusionary effect, thus always appearing flat, plus relatively low-res, making it look really, really dated.

Hey Whomobile, me commenting again. You've painstakingly blasted through several high hp destroyable walls in this map which must have taken forever, as it is taking long even sped up for us. You can change the player damage of the crowbar to easily destroy these insanely strong destructable objects/walls that are in most Obsidian Conflict maps with "sk_plr_dmg_crowbar x" which lets you control the crowbar damage and one-shot those 5000 health obstacles. Very useful in oc_harvest since I bet you're just fainting by the thought of destroying all of the branches and logs covering the harvest field next to the house. Cheers.

@@lookingforsmalldads7588 there was/is a gmod RP gamemode called 1942 RP. There used to be only one server running it, but despite that it was my favorite gamemode to play. The map was just perfect, sorta like this map in that there were objectives to chase such as gun shipments in the sewers for the cops/rebels/random assholes to try and loot. The prison had a secret button rebels could push to let prisoners out. Cops often made fun little obstacle courses or straight up barricades to prevent the frequent prisoner breakouts from overwhelming them. There was also a dock where a lot of factions loved to hand out. There was lots of fun and cool corners to camp out away from the nazi's base. Damn you just brought me down memory lane. Nowadays the server died and while the gamemode still runs, the new servers use a bit of a soulless derivative.

16:56 [beep] Connection terminated. I'm sorry to interrupt you, Elizabeth, if you still even remember that name. But I'm afraid you've been misinformed. You are not here to receive a gift. You have not been called here by the individual you assume, although you have indeed been called. You have all been called here, into a labyrinth of sounds and smells, misdirection, and misfortune. A labyrinth with no exit. A maze with no prize. You don't even realize that you are trapped. Your lust for blood has driven you in endless circles, chasing the cries of children in some unseen chamber always seeming so near, yet somehow out of reach. But you will never find them. None of you will. This is where your story ends. And to you, my brave volunteer, who somehow found this job listing not intended for you. Although there was a way out planned for you, I have a feeling that's not what you want. I have a feeling that you are right where you want to be. I am remaining as well. I am nearby. This place will not be remembered, and the memory of everything that started this can finally begin to fade away, as the agony of every tragedy should. And to you monsters trapped in the corridors: be still, and give up your spirits. They don't belong to you. For most of you, I believe there is peace - and perhaps more - waiting for you after the smoke clears. Although, for one of you... The darkest pit of hell has opened to swallow you whole, so don't keep the Devil waiting, old friend. My daughter, if you can hear me, I knew you would return as well. It's in your nature to protect the innocent. I'm sorry that on that day - the day you were shut out and left to die - no one was there to lift you up into their arms, though you lifted others into yours. And then, what became of you. I should've known you wouldn't be content to disappear, not my daughter. I couldn't save you then. So let me save you now. It's time to rest. For you, and to those you have carried in your arms. This ends for all of us. End communication.

I've literally seen an ahegao hoodie for pokemon sword and shield get by no problem. What the hell kind of maps were you uploading? lol

would you ever do a future episode on oc_harvest? it has a ton of secrets and it would also be pretty cool if you would be able to get a hold of tysn

All of these chunky brush based vehicles are reminding me of that one starship troopers space ship map that always seemed to be missing textures. I think it was sst_bahamut_v2. Though since you like water in source, it may be worth looking into the gm_ship series of maps. That's another one where another iteration was in development and never saw release, I think.

I feel nostalgic and i don't know why...

MrSändman same. I’ve never even remotely heard of or seen this map, and never even played the mod it was for, but I think there’s something about the source engine itself that does it to you. Maybe you played Garrys Mod, or CSS, and remember screwing around with cheats. I got a huge rush of nostalgia just by him mentioning sv_cheats 1, remembering the countless times I did that in private tf2 servers and the like.

Source engine is nostalgic, especially somewhat janky things using default hl2 assets.

@@cybrnekomusic I don't really have any childhood memories attached to playing GMod, but this video did get me nostalgic.... for Roblox. I feel like a loooot of Roblox maps back in the day had very very similar systems in them in terms of progressing and like monetary stuff, as well as map design sensibilities.

Missed this series, but I’m glad you’re taking your time and not churning them out. The long-form is nice too, weird maps feels like a fitting series for long-form, but if you take it back to short form I’ll keep watching all the same! Always happy to see an upload!
