"Getting a hold of this source map creator was kinda hard." Yes, they are an enigmatic bunch. They have an odd habit of vanishing for seven years, going to college, jail, or auspiciously dying of unknown circumstances. Code monkeys live interesting lives.

Source maps always have _that_ feel to them, y'know? That sort of lonely feel. Love this series.
@ToothedKrux
@ToothedKrux 4 жыл бұрын
I think it's mostly because the Source engine is relatively limited in how it percieves geometry, as it really likes rectangles, but not really curves, so most map makers just stick to that to make things less confusing for the player, resulting in very blocky maps. Furthermore, many map makers who don't do huge collaborations usually use premade textures, and the textures from Valve (though mainly friom HL2) basically have aged a lot, as these textures often depict materials that have more depth, but the resolution of it just doesn't allow it to have any illusionary effect, thus always appearing flat, plus relatively low-res, making it look really, really dated.

The way this map is made reminds me of some of the tycoon games you could play on Roblox way back in the day, what with the buttons labelled with text sprites that spawn physics objects that you use to collect other physics objects in what ends up being an enjoyable jank-fest.

Hey Whomobile, me commenting again. You've painstakingly blasted through several high hp destroyable walls in this map which must have taken forever, as it is taking long even sped up for us. You can change the player damage of the crowbar to easily destroy these insanely strong destructable objects/walls that are in most Obsidian Conflict maps with "sk_plr_dmg_crowbar x" which lets you control the crowbar damage and one-shot those 5000 health obstacles. Very useful in oc_harvest since I bet you're just fainting by the thought of destroying all of the branches and logs covering the harvest field next to the house. Cheers.

This is just such a chill map. It would work PERFECTLY if it was ported over to gmod. I really miss maps like these, you can smell the passion from it. The gun seller being called the "Dealer of Rightousness", the archaic and confusing/janky mechanics, and the large scale. The apartments that are just there for flavor/RP. So good

@@medicindisquise4271 for real, i miss when downtown_v8 and that one city map with the giant mayor's office tower and gas station out front weren't the default DarkRP/Realistic Roleplaying maps, they had all those weird downtown offshoots, custom shit like this, and straight up strange places made for specific roleplay gamemodes i miss gmod 11 because of this

@@lookingforsmalldads7588 there was/is a gmod RP gamemode called 1942 RP. There used to be only one server running it, but despite that it was my favorite gamemode to play. The map was just perfect, sorta like this map in that there were objectives to chase such as gun shipments in the sewers for the cops/rebels/random assholes to try and loot. The prison had a secret button rebels could push to let prisoners out. Cops often made fun little obstacle courses or straight up barricades to prevent the frequent prisoner breakouts from overwhelming them. There was also a dock where a lot of factions loved to hand out. There was lots of fun and cool corners to camp out away from the nazi's base. Damn you just brought me down memory lane. Nowadays the server died and while the gamemode still runs, the new servers use a bit of a soulless derivative.

Man, oddly enough this video gave me a lot of nostalgia for Roblox, cuz a lot of early Roblox maps (2008-2010, maybe 2011) had extremely similar systems and map design sensibilities in them. I guess 2000s community-made multiplayer stuff had a lot in common.

16:56 [beep] Connection terminated. I'm sorry to interrupt you, Elizabeth, if you still even remember that name. But I'm afraid you've been misinformed. You are not here to receive a gift. You have not been called here by the individual you assume, although you have indeed been called. You have all been called here, into a labyrinth of sounds and smells, misdirection, and misfortune. A labyrinth with no exit. A maze with no prize. You don't even realize that you are trapped. Your lust for blood has driven you in endless circles, chasing the cries of children in some unseen chamber always seeming so near, yet somehow out of reach. But you will never find them. None of you will. This is where your story ends. And to you, my brave volunteer, who somehow found this job listing not intended for you. Although there was a way out planned for you, I have a feeling that's not what you want. I have a feeling that you are right where you want to be. I am remaining as well. I am nearby. This place will not be remembered, and the memory of everything that started this can finally begin to fade away, as the agony of every tragedy should. And to you monsters trapped in the corridors: be still, and give up your spirits. They don't belong to you. For most of you, I believe there is peace - and perhaps more - waiting for you after the smoke clears. Although, for one of you... The darkest pit of hell has opened to swallow you whole, so don't keep the Devil waiting, old friend. My daughter, if you can hear me, I knew you would return as well. It's in your nature to protect the innocent. I'm sorry that on that day - the day you were shut out and left to die - no one was there to lift you up into their arms, though you lifted others into yours. And then, what became of you. I should've known you wouldn't be content to disappear, not my daughter. I couldn't save you then. So let me save you now. It's time to rest. For you, and to those you have carried in your arms. This ends for all of us. End communication.

Will you do a Bigcity one too? Big Boat? Do you mean, glitch boat that gets stuck midair, breaks physics forever or gets stuck in the observatory just cause someone put the secret chest filled with trash inside of it and opened it on the wall? LOVE IT! I miss breaking the Rocket Launch, sometimes it would no launch, sometimes big boat broke physics and got stuck on it... Or people shoved props in it that it would instead fall down. I miss those times, damn.

All of these chunky brush based vehicles are reminding me of that one starship troopers space ship map that always seemed to be missing textures. I think it was sst_bahamut_v2. Though since you like water in source, it may be worth looking into the gm_ship series of maps. That's another one where another iteration was in development and never saw release, I think.

MrSändman same. I’ve never even remotely heard of or seen this map, and never even played the mod it was for, but I think there’s something about the source engine itself that does it to you. Maybe you played Garrys Mod, or CSS, and remember screwing around with cheats. I got a huge rush of nostalgia just by him mentioning sv_cheats 1, remembering the countless times I did that in private tf2 servers and the like.
