I managed to get a ticket to see this performance. When I arrived to see these huge production trucks around the theater, I was so excited. Her energy in character was just Brilliant! How lucky I was to get to watch this again here on KZbin.

What a wonderful, hilarious routine from the lucid junkie Fontaine. If your behind was unborn or you had not much use of your brain in the 1980s, OR you're an uptight piece of work, you might miss out on much of this exquisite humor --told, of course, through Goldberg's potty-mouthed, cynical, street-banged philosopher.

I don't really look at this as a stand-up comedy bit. There is more to it than that. She tells stories which is fun too. From that perspective, I really like the *"Anne Frank House"* segment. Not funny, but intriguing. I used to listen to it in bed while going to sleep. Just imagining her story, with vivid images in my head.

It’s performative art and it’s like any other art, either it’s speaks to you or it doesn’t. This is obviously early in her career, early for this kind of “comedy”. I saw her Broadway performance on vhs when I was 10…..it was transformative for me…I’ll never forget how it made me feel as a kid. This is brilliant for its time, hard to feel that way if you are late to the game.

@@alexanderlumberjack not sure how old you are, but the 80s were a period of real “wokeness” waking up from the naivety of the 60s and 70s. When she’s talking about the HIV brothers…and the comparison to baby Jessica. It was profound. It’s easy to forget or ignore how much misinformation got actual ppl killed. Most of the things that are funny pertain to pop culture at the time. But the underlying theme was social awareness. I’m not even sorry you don’t think she’s funny, this is groundwork for an entire population that had been threatened, beaten, and killed. The race discussion is timeless. The fact that this character is a recovering addict is the only thing sad about it, I hate that she hid behind some of these characters to just say truth…she had some great characters that said a lot of great things. I wish she could have just been Whoopi.
