It's actually almost 68 years. But thanks anyway Karyn. My mother's cousin was his mentor in those days, and encouraged Barry to keep going with the characters and their development. Barry himself wrote that there may not be an Edna today if it weren't for him, and there definitely would not be a Sandy Stone.

Yes! I've noticed that many people, especially foreign commentators keep using the word 'drag' and it annoys me no end....your absolutely right.. he was straight man ..married 4 times with children who simply played a character/s incredibly well to iconic level.period 🇦🇺👏❤️

Drag queens are entertainers. Drag queens are not trying to be women. He was a man dressing up as a woman for entertainment and that is drag. A person who identities as the opposite gender assigned at birth is trans.

@@pjlav6304 so when he was 'Sir Les' was he playing a character ...of course he was ..just as he was with Edna...I actually know quite a few 'drag queens ' all gay men...they all mime to songs when performing and dance ...the makeup is far more exaggerated and there is a strapping and prosthetics used and stilletos ...believe me ..when I watch the drag queens I know in comparison to the character of Dame Edna ...there is no comparison..2 completely different forms of entertainment and different styles...
