As a lefty I fell for the Impulse rifles.. when an Impulse Big Game in 6.5 went on sale I snapped it up. Not one of the sales people at any of the stores had a clue you could swap from right to left and back out in the field without special tools. They didn’t even know it would swap. Thanks to your video and checking it out on Savages site I figured it out. Easily my favorite rifle. Dropped a deer at 165yrds and another at 245yrds this year. Neither went more than 10feet. The straight pull keeps my eye on scope and on target for very fast (nearly semiauto fast)

The old style mom and pop shops are going away and being replaced by the more modern corporate look shops. There's not a big income in running a small gun shop, and between legal hassles and ATF, most people just don't see enough potential financial rewards to go into the business for the significant startup investment. I believe ATF is accomplishing one of the items on the agenda by forcing out these small shops.

I'm 80 y.o., and grew up with wood stocks on everything. And you have to agree that wood is BEAUTIFUL! But, the rather new composite stocks are becoming more popular, and stand up better over time. This one, your new Impulse 30-06 is growing on me, and the straight pull is a great idea. My question is, with a standard bolt the verticle movement either unlocks the bolt or locks it in place with 3 or 4 lugs. So what holds or locks the straight pull bolt in place so you don't lose any power with blow-by around the bolt face. I really do like this idea and have an inquiring mind. Thanks for your review, Craig.

Its locking system is the same than the Heym SR30 that was released in the middle of 90's to compete the famous Blaser R93. Straight pull action rifles are very fashion in Europe and the leader remains Blaser but more and more brands offer this system and especially in Europe. Nowadays for hunting rifles, we also find Chapuis, Rossler (the ancient Mauser M96), Heym, Haenel, Beretta, Lynx, Verney-Carron, Strasser, Merkel, Browning, Steel Action and the Savage of course. Keep up the good job Adam.

With the technology of powders the .30.06 round is a really wise choice. I’ve noticed last few years people have been bringing me brand new 30.06 rifles to set optics on. I always take them down to see how well they are bedded in the stock and I do some tune up mods or upgrades. I’m starting on a Howa .300 WM Today. My son got it from the DU banquet. He tried it out a few days ago at the range. Told me the optics are drifting on paper. Common with scope package deals. Anyway. Ive always liked Savage rifles. Holy dang it! I looked at the Beretta straight pull, Made in Italy, two weeks ago. The Beretta was substantially less. The Axis I ordered yesterday is about 1/6 the cost after rebate. Guess I'll figure out with it whether I actually wanna do 6.5C before I drop a few weeks income on either of the straight pulls.

I'm still shopping for my first hunting rifle (thinking 30-06, likely Alberta/British Columbia hunting deer or elk, likely 300yds or less, but mostly range/target shooting for this year), and kind of off topic, I'm looking to get a scope first. I want to invest in a scope that I likely won't want to upgrade for years. I want something I can take off the hunting rifle & mount it on an FX Impact Sniper PCP airgun for indoor shooting when I'm not heading to a range or a hunt. All shooting would be during the daytime or in well lit areas, so no night vision needed. My question is, at what point would I be spending too much? I'm looking at either a Browning BLR '81 Takedown lever action, or a Sako S20 Hunter (takedown is important to me, I'll spare you the details why). If the gun costs $1800 (CDN price, likely $1500 USD), is spending $1500 USD again on a scope over the top, reasonable, or not enough? It's not that I'm not on a budget, it's that I like to get top quality when I can. It's an investment that I'd like to keep for ~5yrs or more & not wish I spent more or it's got features I'll never need. I know you try to reply to everyone, but I type too much, so no worries replying if you don't have time. I welcome all opinions. Love the channel!

I’m curious on how many of the bullet slingers at the pawn shop were your previous guns? I’m guessing about 80% of their inventory! 👍. Another gun and round I would like you to review would be the .41 Great Lakes.

Does the threaded muzzle have a shoulder? If it’s like the TC Compass, it won’t shoot a suppressor well without the shoulder.
