I'm thinking they are going through the alphabet and putting a bunch of each letter in there, so B would be pretty much the first one you try. If I didn't want people to win, I'd use something with letters well into the alphabet. But they also pick words with a lot of letters that people don't pick very often so if you miss the key letter, it becomes very hard. But in this case, the key letter would be one of the first ones they try in spots.

It was in the mid-late 80's is all I remember, and from what I can tell, the clue would have been "Fictional Characters". In pretty much all other countries, taxes either aren't paid on prizes/cash winnings, they're paid by the prize giver rather than the recipient, or they're offset by a licensing fee for running the contest (or just included in the licensing fee). IE: Woman wins 1 million dollars on Wheel of Fortune in Canada. That's what they advertise, so that's what she gets. 1 million dollars take home.
