Here's a little "Where Are They Now"... These guys at WHSV were fresh graduates from James Madison University and these was their first TV gigs. Anchor Steve Leeolou was departing for a new job at another station, while weather/sports guy Steve Buckhantz went on to be a long time sports anchor at WTTG-5 in Washington DC, and play-by-play announcer for the Washington Wizards basketball games. Leeolou eventually left broadcasting and founded one of the earliest cellular service companies in the 1980s that was bought by AT&T. Both guys are only about 22 here, but somehow Leeolou looks already nearly 40.

ThamiumOne, after WHSV, Steve Buckhantz first worked as a weekday sports reporter/weekend sports anchor at WSB-2 in Atlanta, Georgia before moving on to greater fame in Washington, DC; 1. as a long time sports anchor at WTTG Fox 5 and 2. play-by-play announcer for the NBA's Washington Wizards for what was then Home Team Sports/ComCast Sports Mid-Atlantic (now NBC Sports Washington)

Great find! Loved the old school graphics. United Virginia Bank later changed their name to Crestar in 1987. It was bought by Suntrust in 1998, and merged with BB&T in 2019 to form Truist.

Talk about some rare goodies in this upload with easily the earliest Roses ad I've seen on KZbin. The beginning of the IGA ad before the weather sounds like the jingle could have fit the tune of "You Keep Me Hanging On"

That IGA ad is the oldest I have ever seen. I have several IGA commercials from the 1980s and this one is a treasure.

I though I’d see some mention of Ralph Sampson. His senior year season was just starting up. Still, this was very interesting, particularly to see a small, rural market newscast. Fairly professional at moments, but that fly seemed to be the top story. And the guy criticizing the nearby town for not cleaning up had a disheveled sweater and crooked necktie! Get your own house in order, sir.

10:50 Roses is the last of the 5 & dime chains in the southeast. It went bankrupt due to the invasion of Wally World back in the 90's and closed several stores, possibly including the one in Harrisonburg. In the early 2000's, some of the closed stores were reopened under new corporate ownership. Today there is a Roses in operation in Harrisonburg.
