Hello! I’m A-Plus of SOM/Hiero, the producer of 93 til Infinity. First, let me say that this whole breakdown is awesome! I really appreciate all of it. Both stories of the sample discovery presented are true, combine them both for the full story. The original sample for 91 til Infinity was “So Far Away” by The Crusaders, from their 1971 album Crusaders 1, a great album. The 808 in the 93 til beat was sampled from a hip hop record that left an open 808 in the song, it’s where many producers of the time sampled their 808 from, but I won’t disclose what song, to avoid the sample clearance vultures. The same is true of the shakers present in the 93 til beat, I’ll never tell lol. Lastly, the 93 til beat was made on an Ensoniq EPS 16+, not an SP 1200, but the sample principles described are accurate regardless. A little recognized fact is that I added a chorus effect to the main loop in the track, which added significant warmth to it. Also, I created the appearance of delay on the two horn samples using a loop and sustain technique, due to not having enough effect capabilities on the EPS. Thank you very much for this presentation about our song! We are grateful! Bless Up! A-Plus

@@kohort1 somebody got it ☝🏽 the analogy was they’re both freestyle favorites, jazzy, and hard. This is in hindsight of course. Which makes sense cuz the entire Heiroglyphics crew were freestyle monsters! They were the west coast Wu-Tang, if Wu-Tang was more like ATCQ.

Also the depth of the samples and song construction at a time when a lot of music was derivative. This window of musical time was special. You either made classics or you were forgotten.

Hearing the opening synth of this track is like feeling the warmth of a Californian summer sunset on your face, it’s watching family footage of a summer barbecue on old VHS tapes, its that first t-shirt day in the spring, it’s just an unbelievably positive nostalgic vibe. There isn’t anything as comforting as ‘93 till infinity and that’s why it’s one of my favourite tracks ever, Waves by Freddie Joachim is the only other track that has the same vibe, both completely timeless till infinity ❤

My parents split for good in ‘93. This song used to take me to a different place. I used to walk around Oakland feeling like nothing was bad for about 5 minutes. Then I married Phesto’s cousin and let’s just say meeting one of my heroes growing up was a great experience. It’s weird playing pickup basketball and trying not to fan out 😂

This is one of my favorite and dopest HIPHOP beats I've ever heard and it's so fresh since 93'. I'm a 46 yr old HIPHOP head from Staten Island (Parkhill section) and I listen to this song 🎵 like almost every other week, it's has a nostalgic feel to me. I work out to the instrumental also, that's how dope this song is and what it means to me. Time to give it another listen....from 93' til Infinity

Heiro Day in Oakland is prolly the best ever hip hop festival almost nobody outside the Bay Area knows about. Met Tajai a few times from opening up for him and was the most down to earth intellectual dude from the hood I’ve ever met. Also, glad you clarified how different the Bay and LA is. It’s hilarious when someone from the east coast asks you to meet them up in LA when you’re 400 miles away in the same state 🤦🏻‍♂️ lol

I recently saw Souls Of Mischief (here in Wellington, NZ) on the 30 years of '93 til Infinity' tour. It was a great show overall. But no matter how many hundreds/thousands of times you've heard (or played) that tune at the dance - when they played it (second to last track of their set), it still made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Seminal tune.

93 til infinity is sonically nostalgic . That with the music video which highlights the comradeship of having a crew of friends together all collaborating. This beat manifests the emotion of leaving Highschool and feeling like the world is about to open up so incredibly well, and does it in such a warm and comforting way. Doing all that through such a clear lens that even though I wasn’t born till ‘97 and have never lived in the US I feel like I’m right there every time I hear it. If that’s not magic, I don’t know what is 👏

This song to me is like summertime/summer madness; It has this feeling of summer when the sun is going down on a good day. It has this nostalgia of "the good ol' days", a simpler time, it's a time machine as you you said. By the way, new to the channel, only watched a few episodes after catching your MJ ep, but I absolutely love your content. The way you pace the episode is on point and you've got a great voice for this and any voicework work. I love hearing about samples as it opens my eyes to older songs that I've yet to discover. You made me want to go listen to The Ahmad Jamal Trio after your Pete Rock v Premo episode (2 of my favourite producers). You'd be great on a documentary. Your passion is clear. Now I just need to work my way through all your episodes!

Great video!! Dope breakdown as well. Coincidentally, this beat was the first beat I made in Ableton back in 2016 as a practice session, the next beat The Choice Is Yours By Black Sheep. I haven’t looked back since! Salute!

Just one of the most nostalgic records ever (not just hip hop). It instantly transports me back in time, sets my mood, and gives crazy vibes. Chefs kiss record

I remember hearing this song on a skate board mix tape style video. It’s hypnotic. Like an unending groove. You could run this for hours with several rappers just jumping back and forth and it wouldn’t get old.

This track and T.R.O.Y imo capture the essence of hip-hop to its core
