Flippin' ek!!! Ok, so... this particular video randomly showed up in my KZbin feed last night. It struck a chord with me as I always struggle with flipping the hands at impact no matter what I try to counteract it. I play 9 holes every morning before starting work and normally end up around 9 over. I implemented the tips in your video and was 3 over after 9. Decided to go round again and was 3 over again after another 9! I have never, ever done that. The strikes felt crisper and the greens I missed were just off, so dispersion was vastly better as well. Thank you so much for taking the time to make and post this video. Much appreciated. Cheers.

This is amazing, of all the lessons, no one has ever said anything about the right hand like this. Creating this wrist angle provides so much more control at impact as it feels like you can drive the club through vs feeling like a noodle that randomly moves through impact. You can feel the control and the snap on the ball impact immediately with this simple adjustment. You typically hear instructions that the toe should point up at 12 o'clock in the horizontal position in the take away. Thanks for this tip. Pure gold.

I live in Pennsylvania and only golf a few times in the summer. I used to play up to a dozen times a year over a dozen years ago and played to about a 12 handicap with a totally wrong understanding of how to swing the club. It is through practicing what I have learned in this video along with one of your other videos that I hope to finally compress the ball for the first time in my life. Thank you so much for the common sense advice, Craig! Liked and Subscribed!

This is an incredible insight. The need to "release" the right arm early in the downswing, to get the club on plane and allow you to retain right wrist flexion, amongs other things. I think you are right about 99% of amateurs getting this wrong
Probably my biggest problem actually in my swing. Thanks for these drills, i can't wait to try them and see the improvement

Please can I ask you to do a video in 2025 on the topic of maximising the roll out on landing of the golf ball. I realise it’s about optimising the total distance on your driver shots. In the early days of me playing this game I remember with great fondness the fabulous distances the ball would roll out to on landing with my driver. As I have got older I suspect I lost some of that draw spin I used to have in my swing. That top hand smash in tennis effect. I also suspect like a lot of players my AOA becomes a little down in the driver on occasions. I’m assuming one needs to swing from low to high with an element of draw spin? While keeping control of spin on the bal / reducing the spin loft (reducing dynamic loft slightly but retaining an upward blow on the ball (driver club head rising / moving away from the ground at impact). Everyone these data talks about carry distance but no one concentrates on maximising roll out. For older and senior golfers this is a really key area of the game to help us to keep up with the young guns who blast it 290 yards down the fairway. By the way I also am a massive fan of of you highlighting the correct position/ condition of the left / lead wrist as it moves into extension post impact. This idea of the left wrist moving from a slightly bowed (flexion) or straight into an extension condition through the release /into the follow through. You are one of the few coaches who have highlighted the importance of this concept over the past few years. Myles

My tip after finally figuring this out 25 years after starting golf, is that compression/forward shaft lean is created with the SHOULDERS/BODY TURN... NOT ARMS/WRISTS. PGA players are at full arm extension after the golf ball, meaning that the golf club is delayed behind them during the golf swing. Examples of this motion to get the feeling are skipping a stone, casting a fishing rod, or even just single dominant arm swinging. Another example would be to face your chest and head toward the target, and the swing the club back and forth. You can really exaggerate this as much as you want to knock of 5, 10, or even 15 degrees of launch angle and get that "flighted" or "compressed" shot that makes watching the pros in person so cool.

I have to say the skipping the stone or casting a fishing pole never resonates with me at all! I don't know about you but when I skip a stone my arm is doing a lot of the action through the throw it is definitely not a dramatic body motion and then sort of dragging my arm through like it would be in a golf swing. Skipping a stone to me is more like a pitch shot what are your sort of throwing the club more but the full swing is not like that at all

Craig as mentioned I’m a big fan of your golf instruction. But the one thing I have been reticent till now ti try is this flappy style release where post impact the lead wrist goes into extension/ cupped and the trail / right wrist becomes bowed / arched. I like your analogy of the painting the wall with a paint brush. Question, I’m guessing this would keep the club more easily ti stay on the correct arc through / post impact? But does this mean you don’t need to have as much forearm rotation in the follow through? Don’t some people call this a flap style release? It’s almost regarded by some coaches as a swing error. But I’m guessing this is only if you do this prior to impact as opposed to you achieving this hands forward shaft leaning impact and it happens after this stage. Could you distinguish / explain why this is not a flipping of the wrists? Do your arms go into a cross over position later in the follow through, when your right hand over takes your left / lead hand as you rotate / release your forearms and fold your lead arm? Myles

Shift to your lead foot and stay down all the way through impact. Literally, just see the club face onto the ball and don’t come out of the shot. “Staying down” is a skill that amateurs struggle with. They come out of it and get flippy. Some pros flip too, but they’ve hit countless balls and got better at timing. Anyhow, shift to lead foot, down and through the ball. I promise you that you’ll naturally cover the ball effectively, compress consistently and not flip at impact. I use Titleist 681 blades (3-pw) and compress the hell out of my pro v1x’s, hitting ball then turf consistently. You’ll see

Watch Tommy fleetwood shift and stay down through impact…watch him face on. He compresses the hell out of it with great divots. Cameron young too
@scottdixon16676 ай бұрын
Last thing, the hands are passive as you shift to your lead foot and down through the ball. It’s a rotary swing. Not “hip spinning”, but shifting. The lead foot shift will make your hip turn naturally. When I strike it, I can see the club face catching the ball first and descend into the turf immediately after. It feels thick and solid….not thin. That’s how you get that special flush sound like a Tommy fleetwood or cam young

Ben Hogan's "waiter's tray" trail wrist position says it all. Bowed lead wrists ensure it. Moe Norman used it. If you had a 3ft. long hammer handle, how would you knock in a nail in a 2 by 4 at ground level? That would be by having the wrist of the hand holding it pronate. That is the strongest and most efficient use of the wrist for power and speed. It's not called a "strong" grip for nothing...
