This is so great for someone like me who does not have a tennis background at all so came into PB with zero understanding about the mechanics of a good forehand

Verbal explanation and active video together is terrific as is stop screen and slow motion. So many videos just talk and show so little "examples" let alone break it down with stop screen and slow motion. Appreciate it.

Thank you for this detailed breakdown of the forehand swing mechanics. I couldn't help but notice all the weight that has been added to her paddle, with the lead around the perimeter of the paddle it's weight is probably close to 10 ounces and greatly increasing the swingweight.

Great video! Easy to follow the key steps with the slow motion during your explanation. Would really appreciate the same breakdown of a 2 handed backhand.

This video is so needed. i've learned this from table tennis, same mechanics. i have found that it's 3 things all in very quick succession: first, initiating weight transfer from rear leg to forward leg (pushing off), then driving hips, which pulls shoulders and last the arm thru like a slingshot. i've always struggled with getting this optimized whilst staying relaxed. takes lots of practice! still working on it. one question i have: in pickleball how does this differ with backhands (particularly 2 handed), and how does this differ with strokes like this vs when ur at the net? is at the net (for net volleys, net speedups, even offensive dinking ..do each of these strokes have different variations of this same stroke & body mechanics as described in this video? obviously...at the net, we dont have time to weight xfer, turn hips & shoulders back and do this kind of full driving stroke but is the speedup (and 2 handed backhand speedup) mini, more compact versions of the same mechanics (maybe a small step back, a mini but fast weight xfer, a mini but fast lag and turn of shoulders in a speedup? same ? for 2 handed backhand. this would be super helpful to me. thanks! :)

The same general 3 things apply on full swing backhands regardless of if they're one handed or two handed from deeper in the court. Once you're up at the net you still do the 3 things although much faster and abbreviated. Any soft shot such as dinking, resets and blocks are rather different since you're not striking the ball. These are rather big an complex topics with a lot of nuance. Too much to cover in depth in a few sentences but i hope that helps.

Excellent breakdown, thank you!! I’m wondering if she is trying to impart topspin on her stroke also. Kind of looks like it I think. Also, not clear what direction the paddle face should be on contact. I think it looks pretty much vertical although maybe slightly angled down. Thanks again! The slow motion breakdown of footwork is terrific!
@primetimepickleball7 ай бұрын
It depends on how high the contact is and what type of spin (if any) she wants to put on the ball. Often it’s quite vertical and usually a touch open depending on all of the above. No one size answer for this.

I think it worth mentioning that the LAG is created due to relaxed wrist and forward elbow motion, and NOT by cocking wrist back.

Yes! I believe I say that several times.

I saw a video that all sports have that one second lag, basketball, football throws….its the spring load.

@@Positivecuriosity46yep it’s the basic sports move to generate power, in many sports, not in basketball tho. Both throwing the ball and batting, throwing a punch, Hockey shot, football throw, lacrosse throw, skipping a stone, crushing the golf ball

I love this. I’ve seen a lot of videos explaining different components, and this puts it all together really nicely. My only issue is remembering it all when I’m drilling so I can implement it. I’m not naturally athletic and I have a hard time focusing on more than one thing at a time, so I’m either thinking “turn”, “loose wrist”, “transfer weight”, etc, but to bring it all together takes me more time than I think it does for most. I’ve also tried recording myself. It’s helpful, but still hard not to get inside my own head too much. I’ll keep hitting the court at 5:30am and I’m sure it’ll eventually become a natural part of my game. Thanks for all you do!
@primetimepickleball7 ай бұрын
Great work! Don’t beat yourself up. I can only focus on one thing at a time as well. Max two. That’s all most can do…including pros. One thing at a time…nail it down and then rotate to the next thing.

Was Kady a tennis player? I see a lot of concepts from tennis, such as the unit turn, the lag, transfer of weight and finishing over left shoulder . I have been wondering myself how can I hit harder so this video is most welcome!

Great video analysis. I feel like one thing missing is the need to impart top spin. If the ball is hit this hard, unless it is just clearing the net by an inch or two, it must have top spin to stay in the court. It seems she uses a bit of the windshield wiper motion as she snaps through the shot. Is that how you see it?
@primetimepickleball7 ай бұрын
There is some slight topspin but yes she is hitting it quite tight to the net. Low crossing net is the main goal in addition to speed.

@sonnynos7 ай бұрын
Is she hitting a flat drive or topspin drive? I’ve been taught to make a “c” with my back swing going back head high and then making a “c” on the follow through to create topspin. Her drive seems more flat but can’t tell from the camera angle.
@primetimepickleball7 ай бұрын
She’s hitting mostly flat but usually there’s a small amount of natural topspin on such drives. The C is present on both flat drives and topspin. The difference for topspin is you drop the paddle head more under the ball and come up more vertically through contact.

It seems like she's getting her paddle into position to hit at the last possible moment... Do you recommend loading sooner if possible?
@primetimepickleball7 ай бұрын
I recommend doing it the way she is doing it. She’s essentially “ready” when she’s turned with two hands on the paddle. Once hands separate… it’s go time.

5ish. As loose as you can reasonably keep it without paddle flying out of your hand is maybe a better way to think about it.
