Why a global minimum tax?

Our explanatory video shows why the global minimum tax is so important to fight inequality worldwide.
The global minimum tax is intended to prevent tax avoidance by multinational companies through shifting profits to tax havens on a grand scale. The aim is to put a stop to the so called “race to the bottom” in attracting investments with the lowest possible tax rates.
The global minimum tax sets a new course in international corporate taxation. But there is also criticism: many countries in the Global South are demanding a higher rate than the 15 percent agreed by the G20 and OECD. Why? Our explanatory video provides answers.
