Yep, Honda's are reliable cars. Honda engines are some of the most reliable and they're very different than some of the luxury car brands. That's why I'm showing you the differences between Honda and some other car brands. Today, it's Honda vs Mercedes and why these two car brands have very different vehicle reliability.

I agree with you up to a point about the status and luxury aspect of the German brands but there is a distinct feel that these cars have which make them so satisfying to drive. I bought my first Benz (15 yr C300 )a month ago and it’s hardly a status symbol, as for luxury, it’s the basic model with no packages or options added to it when new. It’s got that old skool Mercedes luxury in terms of materials, feel and build quality, which I love.

The repairs for the Mercedes Benz are spot on. I will never buy a Mercedes Benz again. They want me to repair their low-quality subframe and other parts for 12 grand which is how much I paid for the C300 2011 at the non-Mercedes dealership in 2018. The subframe was recalled in the EU and not the USA. I went to the consumer affairs website and many people that owned a new or old Mercedes Benz have the same problem or worse. They sell you cheap quality materials and overprice the repairs on these so-called “luxury cars” but in reality, they don't last long. Every time I see an old car it's never a Mercedes Benz.

A lot of Japanese brands last a really long time overall because they are not as high tech and over engineered like the German car brands are. Both the Japanese and Germans do make a lot of solid built engines and transmissions. The only unreliable weak point with the German car brands is that the rest of the vehicle is high maintenance with the overuse of high tech electronics, sensors, and the overuse of plastic engine cooling parts that would break when they are 5 to 8 years old from brand new. The monthly payments on a lot of the German car brands are much cheaper then a lot of the Japanese car brands. A lot of the German car brands lose their resale value so fast because a lot of people know that they cost a lot of money to maintain.

There's a reason why I chose the E-Class over the C-Class when they were parked side by side at the Dealership....... better built product with greater quality. Any car that’s properly maintained will last. That being said, the Benz demands much more of a commitment versus the Honda. I had a C-Class that was nice enough, but not enough to justify the price and added maintenance expense over say an Accord. I went back to Honda until I can comfortably afford an E-class or better (including maintenance).

Very nice video overall, good points on service, but, hey.. not the same class and age compared here, so the part about interior is pointless. Take a look at something from the same price point, like Honda Legend interior (even 12 y.o. car will be a proper rival for the interior quality)!

A friend of mine from high school, this is the late 90s, drove around in his grandfather's 1960s Merc. People used to buy these cars with good cash money thinking their children (in this case grandchildren) might inherit them one day. These days, all of these Mercs which have engines tuned to their thermal limits to make more power only need to last the duration of their lease time. The poor suckers who end up with a 4-5 year old Mercedes thinking they bought it cheap are either going to use it very little, just enough to let their neighbors think they have money or they will spend much more on repair and maintenance. These cars look good, feel good, drive fast and then break down after a few years.

Average annual maintenance cost of [my owned from new] 2010 BMW 335d - $2672/y. Breakdown: $1,761/y for maintenance/repairs, 278/y tires and $632 for upgrades (the engine and suspension have been extensively upgraded). @@ECPP - yep - I paid the price for being an early adopter of the "d". My cousin in the UK had a 330d (manual) that he raved about and I loved its torque. When I got the 335d I didn't realize it had the very complicated SCR emissions system. By year 5 I had CBU issues and it needed a couple of new fuel injectors. With the huge bills for this work I realized I needed to refresh my mechanicing skills so did a lot of reading up on the forums and was horrified by what I found. I eventually had certain systems deleted and tuned out but I did it in a bit of a piecemeal fashion - it would have been way cheaper to do everything in one go. I have a love hate relationship with the BMW d - love the huge torque from the engine but its been an expensive toy - although with the suspension upgrades its a completely different car. When the BMW goes my next car will be Toyota, Honda or if I decide to go luxe again Lexus but these days I do very little commuting and we also have a big Acura MDX which is a great car. I always say to anyone who wants a BMW that they should lease one and get rid of it as soon as the warranty is up. These days I have a Yamaha FJR1300 if I need speed thrills . . .it will leave most cars in the dust.

I just swapped my Honda for a 2010 BMW because I want to have fun when I'm driving and have a car that actually looks good to me. Let's be honest, most of these 'ultra reliable' cars are boring and look like crap. As long as you can afford and are willing to maintain it, it's ok to overlook the difference in reliability.

It just depends on what you prioritize. I’ve had hondas too but recently moved to an F30 BMW 3-series. If you don’t care about how your car drives, by all means buy a honda lol. But when you drive to work and want to enjoy the process of driving everywhere, then mercedes/bmw is the way to go. But you have to pay to play the game. Im just one of those that dont mind going the extra mile for my cars since i take good care of it. I do maintainance myself so that i never take it to the stealership. It’s just two demographics. People that dont give a f about cars and those like me who actually does this thing for passion.
