Scary that people would even have to fight for the right to repair their own property...scary times we live in - Gov't think they own our bodies AND our cars...and our house...etc etc...Gov is by definition an inherently inefficient, wasteful, & coercive territorial monopolist of ultimate decisionmaking & violence...we need another revolution...don't believe it? take a look at 1.5Trillion in pork that was just passed in a spending bill that mostly goes to foreign lobbyists...

I replaced brake pads and rotors, front was $189 in parts and rear was $146. Front sway bar links were clunking so replaced those for $71. Oil leaking from crankcase breather cover so just replaced the cover and drip pan for $54. Had a front spring break while parked so I replaced both complete struts with used struts I found on ebay from 30,000 mile Cali cars so no rust, think I paid $120 shipped for the pair. Rear springs looked rusty so I found a used low mileage set on ebay from Cali salvage yard for $45 shipped for the pair. I will say if I didn't work in it myself and paid someone it would get expensive. Plus it's been a New England car so salt and rust. Only had 1 check engine light which turned out to be a purge valve which I replaced with a used one on ebay for $12 shipped. I'm good at finding deals. Tons of W204 C300 used parts in ebay from Cali salvage yards, parts look almost new. I follow all the recommended service in the manual. Last week I brought in my '10 E350 4Matic (142k miles) to the dealer for the service B and to inspect a brake fluid leak (it would go from max to min in about 4-5 days). The dealer said that all the brake lines were bad and needed to be replaced, at a cost of $4k. The inspection also said that we needed new engine and motor mounts, new brake rotors, new spark plugs, needed to replace some sort of plug at the back side of the motor that was seeping oil, transmission service, new tires and wheel alignment. If we did all of the necessary (brake lines) and the recommended repairs, the total bill would have been over $16k. We just traded in the car and bought a CPO '18 C300 4Matic instead. The downside was that they still charged us for the B service (they charged us $800 for that), plus an additional $285 for the diagnostic on the brake lines.

UP and At Them. NO Up and ATOM!!! YES UP and AT THEM!!! Yes I own the 2015 E350 with the same engine. I replaced my spark plugs just as you did, but I also bought the angled pliers with the round jaw to grab the coil packs and pull them out as they are difficult to remove. All the videos and literature I read said to be careful when removing the coil packs. Later on, one of my coil packs went out and I had to replace it. Maybe I damaged it when I did the spark plugs. I don't know. At any rate, it wasn't that difficult. I may go in and replace all the coil packs as the car is almost at 100k miles. One thing I replaced this month was the rear transmission mount. The car was making a lot of vibration at low RPMs, and when I replaced that mount, everything smoothed out as if it was a new car again. Thanks for showing the transmission fluid procedure. I went through it with much mysticism. You answered a lot of questions I had while I was doing it. I'll be much more confident the next time I do it. Good video for people who are too intimidated to work on their own MB. I have been a MB tech for 3 years now and I would chose a MB over any other European car brand to work on. Especially cars from and right after the 204 era. Just two things I want to point out about this specific video: A VERY important inspection point on the W204 is the rear subframe (also on the W212 and any other MB of this era that uses a similar style subframe), especially near the front mounting points. It LOVES to rust there (especially up north) and I have replaced over 30 of these the last 2 years. To drain the TQ easily, remove the auxiliary trans fluid pump. It's only 3 bolts and one connector, there is another rubber inspection cover under it. Remove it and now you can point the TQ drain plug straight down to drain the fluid without making a huge mess inside the trans housing. I always replace the drain plug and crush washer on these! This is how I was taught to do it at the dealer.

In certain MB models using this engine, removing the plenum is unavoidable. It would be nice to have a video on that procedure. The few available on YT are not that good. Please consider it.

There has been a massive recall on these regarding the rear axle carrier. Also the lower control arms on the rear where the spring is seated are word taking a look at the inside of them. especially in area’s where in the wintertime they dump a phalanx of salt on the roads.

I was going to mention the same thing,,,,,definately need to check the rear subframe-especially with all that "Chicago corrosion" under the car. Also a good idea to keep an eye on the front driveshaft u-joint for excessive slack on the 4matics, as I've seen them fail right after going out of warranty.

I love your thoroughness and helping out a friend that helped you. Thanks for sharing your expertise as always. Just curious, do any Euro cars have 100k-120k spark plugs or is this just Japanese thing? I’m preparing my first plug swap on my 3.5 Toyota at 125k/13 years thanks to the Car Care nut. I almost changed my mind on it until I found his video. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, i have a 2014 C300 with 38k miles, not my daily as I drive a few other vehicles, but do the maintenance on my own cars. Only did front brake pads and oil changes and oil filter changes since car was new, changed air filter and cabin filter twice now. Needs Battery and tires next and transmission fluid change. I changed brake fluid every 3 years also, Dot4+ and found that makes a difference actually after changing it. Always found little air in some lines. Thank god I don't need the hair treatment, but thanks for showing that product also. LOL

For the transmission on this model, just take the thing to Mercedes, they do it with the engine running via the transmission radiator (after changing the filters and magnets, etc.).

Alex's shredded gloves are really just his Venom like skin coming through on camera. When he shows us using Keeps, it's really just a serum to keep his powers in check. Otherwise, he would hurt himself on a car and go berserk and rip the engine out of the car and launch it down the block.

An alternative is to pop off the oil return line from the trans cooler, on the side of the trans and soft flush the cooler and torque convertor with the engine running, 2 litres out stop the engine, two litres in, continue till the oil comes out clean

Always interesting to watch. The only big no no I have come to realize is never ever ever do a flush on your transmission or rad. Just drain and fill. Going to screw up things when flushing. Seen several vehicles get screwed when doing the flushes.

I had one of those , same year as well. It was a great car until 75k miles then the camshaft position sensor started leaking oil through the wiring harness and into the ECU. The repair was about 50% of the value of the car at the time. I drive a Toyota truck now.

Next year I'm going to do all the fluids in my no longer new car. Believe it or not, brake fluid isn't outlined anywhere in the routine maintance - I'm hoping 4 years is fine (it still looks clean and contamination free, and my car doesn't have a lot of miles on it).
@matthewhook33753 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking it's a good idea to change brake fluid every 2 years in the spring. Even if it looks clean it absorbs moisture and becomes compressible, which reduces brake performance.
@nukedathlonman3 жыл бұрын
@@matthewhook3375 Yea. Well accuse me of being a bad owner because I usually wait till it starts changing color or a line rusts out (I live in the rust belt so common for rust out lines; and I do all my lines at that point because if I touch one they all fail shortly after).

I know this video is 2+ yrs old, but it works for me and I just found it. B/c .....I just bought an 08 S550 (a Gma's car) with 27k mi for $10k and there are zero service records other than oil changes at about 5 to 7.5.k intervals. Wanted to do all the deferred maintenance on this 14 yr old car before really driving it and was quoted $2.2k to 2.5k for these services from MB/Euro auto shops, and $3.6k to 4.8k from dealerships (many of the concerned services left undone, such as engine air filter, power steering and spark plugs). This is SF Bay Area pricing. After watching your video and being introduced to FCF Euro, I now know I can get this down myself for about $600 in filters/oil and about $100 in needed sockets/tools to work on a MB. The only thing that remains illusive is the fuel filter (in tank, under rear seat).

When I do the transmission service, I leave the pan on and remove the gear box oil pump if possible before I do the oil filter. Some models don't allow that method. From there you can see the torque converter drain plug and being able put an air nozzle onto the pan drain plug hole and blow the TC out very fast but don't overdo it with the air pressure since the oil pan can bulge. If the pump is out, the two black seals have to be replaced before going back in. Unfortunately these are quite pricey, like 40 buck a piece. No special tools required and gets the job done fast

Thanks Alex. I have a 2016 cls 350d, and I like to change the oil every 5000 miles or there abouts. I use a dipstick sucker. I'd love to hear from others whether this is a good thing, or a bad idea. Either way thats how I do it, and I always manage to extract all 8 liters of oil. If I had a lift I would love to be able to have a go at all the other jobs mentioned. Thanks as always for this brilliant channel.

WatchJRGo just did a video on this with a Honda. I've been doing that with an E500 for a while now. I have to empty the catch can in the middle though. I don't do it on dad's pickup truck. It takes 14L of oil, so I have to empty the catch can twice, and it's awkward to have in a position that I can suck from. I just pull the plug on that. Oil filter is next to the plug anyways.

I did a major service on a 3.0 6 cyl XF Jag with 120k miles on it and 3 of plugs were hidden under the plenum. Some genius at Jaguar thought it would be a good idea to use molded hoses on the plenum meaning that it was practically impossible to remove and reuse them. Not surprisingly the hoses had never been removed... the three plugs under the plenum had never changed... which shows you how good NGK's are... and how it's not necessary to change them every service. Ran ran like a top before the service.
