Actually the 8550 uses also pigment black in combination with photo black when printing photos with some options and ICCs selected!

Do you have a source for that information? Everything I read said that the printer doesn’t use the pigment ink for images. If that’s true, that’s great to know!

@@sethpotterphoto Keith Cooper and Jose Rodriguez found that analyzing the prints. If I remember well, in this video it is mentioned: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXysaoKJpbCld8ksi=dO6ejFCylMRVyy01 It is also mentioned in other videos of both youtubers. In fact, ET 8550 can produce deeper blacks when using pigment black respect to the XP 15000 or the ET 18100 (both of them have just a photo black available)

@@gaburko101 well, it seems like the printer might be using pigment black in certain situations. Keith cooper did say that the printer uses pigment on velvet paper and judging from his channel he’s far and away more knowledgeable about printers than I so I don’t doubt him. I also found a video by Jose Rodriguez (m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2GknpZ9eL6FfZo&pp=ygUZam9zZSByb2RyaWd1ZXogZXBzb24gODU1MA%3D%3D) where he said he’s not sure if the printer is or isn’t using the pigment on matte papers. It would be nice if Epson would let us all know what the printer does on what settings so we can know for certain. Thank you for going through the trouble of sharing your source and even linking me to a video! I appreciate it. And thanks for letting me know about those two print centric KZbinrs.

Absolutely right and this also depends on what type of paper you're choosing. eg mat paper or velvet will use bigment black ink in combination.

I bought an 8550 printer. It took a little time to learn how to use it. It does give great photo prints. I’m glad I bought it.

I’m glad that you’re enjoying printing. In the next few weeks I’ll be making a video on what you can do with all those prints. Plus how I go about organizing and storing prints. Thank you for watching!

I grabbed a Selphy CP1500 that does 4x6 and I love printing out little prints. Anything bigger, and I take them to Staples.

I’ve heard great things about those little printers.

@@sethpotterphoto working rather well in a very specific and limited way. Just perfect 4x5. Easy to run. Not super expensive. Flexible.

Ok thanks. I’m a graphic designer and I have to print out my portfolio for school.

Gotcha. I was in school for digital media just a couple years ago and had to do the same. Perhaps you could send your portfolio out to a print lab? Or you could use something like blurb to make it into a book.

Any tips for printing B/W ? The 4x6 that you showed coming off the printer looked super good to me. Thanks.
@sethpotterphoto3 ай бұрын
Only tips I have is to use ICC profiles for your printer and paper or the true b&w mode. I can’t say I’m doing anything special beyond that.

are the black really black i been looking for a printer that has good deep blacks?
@sethpotterphoto6 күн бұрын
If you need deep inky blacks I’d recommend a pigment ink printer. If that’s out of your budget then this printer could work. I’m not sure what your standards are for black ink but I’ve been extremely happy with the black and white images I’ve been printing.

Great video thanks. Just got my 8550 and have 40k pics on my smugmug and various hard drives. Time to start printing! So you prefer the polar matte over a glossy paper? Are you using RR's ICC profile? going to order some to try today.
@sethpotterphoto3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yes I’ve always preferred matte paper to glossy. No particular reason, just my preference. Also, yes, I use their ICC profiles. The difference between using the profile and not using it is minor but it is there. Slightly more accurate colors and slightly better shadow detail. Happy printing!
