Create a lovely, woodland style border in a shady spot in your garden. I particularly like ferns. Their feathery fronds really lift a dark corner and add a lot of beauty and texture.
Dry shade is the most challenging place to find plants for but there are still lots of plants which will thrive in this situation. One of my favourite, bullet-proof plants is Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety'. It is pretty drought tolerant and requires minimal maintenance. It also copes with shade.
I love its variegated foliage which brightens up a dark spot.
When we shot this video it was still relatively cool, despite being June and it was still possible to plant. Now I am writing this text a week or so later the weather has changed suddenly and we are experiencing a heatwave. Don't plant in a heatwave, wait until the weather has cooled down a bit, as the plants will really struggle to establish.
