Hi Heath. I like your videos because they're interesting but most of all they're honest. You don't claim to be what you're not. This is why I will share a few tips on how to brake in a new motor. I started my mechanic's career in 1973, so I've been through the spectrum. Enough of my life story. Now to make it short and interesting so you don't give up on me. The brake in period is actually a "Wear in period". The wearing pattern created from the distance the piston travels coming up and leaving top dead center, compared to the rocking motion the rings go through every time it goes through the top and bottom of the stroke. "A time factor". That determines the lenght of the wear pattern which is affected by the speed or RPM of the motor. Now you add torque to the motor and this will change the wear pattern. How to brake in a new motor you ask? Answer is , brake it in the way you are going to run it. Don't let it idle too long. When you load it up in a log , slowly bring the rpm to its top setting , hold it for a few seconds and slowly bring rpm down before you cut through the log. A big size log is good for that. Never should you rev up the engine freely with no load on. Remember when you were a kid running down a hill and all of sudden you run out of legs that's what happens to an engine running full speed with no restriction. Lucky a chain saw has the clutch and chain running on the bar creating enough resistance for it not to happen. A good engine will always use a minute amount of oil between oil changes. A fine oil film is left behind on every stroke to eliminate friction so rings don't wear so fast. That's why I cringe every time I see someone start a gas engine and leave the choke on, overloading the cylinder with black smoke, drying out the walls and creating friction and wearing out rings... Notice the circle of life in the engine. If you're interested knowing more about the subject to help clarify it to become understandable. I know my stuff but maybe not capable of explaining it correctly. Yes I do think that a back-hoe is more useful than a mini-hoe when it comes to firewood work, you can easily use both ends. Keep up the good work.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors10 күн бұрын
Thank you Pete. You explained that very well and it makes sense! This is one thing I love about running a channel, I learn from others and can then turn around and help others with the information! I will be sharing some of this in upcoming videos!

Heath...Great video on how to work smarter with the forks and backhoe! It is sooo much easier to buck at waist height versus constantly bending and worrying about getting the chain in the dirt! A loose chain regardless of why is dangerous and destructive to the chain, the sprocket, and the bar. When it is slapping around it is damaging the area of the bar just before the tip, at the sprocket, and at the tail of the bar. You should always keep the chain working tight and should stop and readjust as often as necessary, especially when new and stretching the most. You should always when done cutting for the day loosen the bar nuts and that will should allow enough slack so that the contracting chain does not bend the crankshaft/damage the bearing housing. Just things I learned from expert arborists my two tree-climbing sons have worked for.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors10 күн бұрын
Thank you. I definitely let that chain get too loose! Guess I was gun shy from over tightening new hot chains before. Appreciate the feedback.

I have a small tractor backhoe and in may of 2023 after I sold the firewood business I got myself a bobcat E26 excavator with the thumb. I don't know what your talking about Husqvarna! All my saws start on the second pull! I had bought a used 50cc Echo and I had started using 40-1 mix and my dealer said i should go back to 50-1 because there is more oil in it. So I thought he was crazy saying that but when my saw started vibrating very bad i ask him to look at my saw so he can figure out why its vibrating so bad. Well, he said I told you to switch to 50-1 and obviously yo didn't and now the bearings are shot because it doesn't get enough oil to the crankshaft.
@NeighborlyHomestead12 күн бұрын
That doesn't make any sense at all! The lower the ratio, the more oil in the gas.
@georgesalamon812812 күн бұрын
@@NeighborlyHomestead The video's I watched about the two stroke oil, they said go with what is recommended by the manufacturer and most of the time it's 50-1. The video I watched actually there were two that said to stay away from the pre mixed fuels because they were not consistent and made them in batches and with the 40-1 mix overheated the engines because most of the oil was going out the exhaust in stead of going into the crank. Both videos I saw agreed on the best two stroke oil that got to the crank in two different saws and that oil was Schaeffer Supreme 9000 Full Synthetic 2-Cycle Racing Engine Oil. Thats all I use for all of my two strokes and never had a problem except for the used Echo saw I had that developed real bad vibration. I have all Husqvarna saws now and all work extremely well.
@iffykidmn817012 күн бұрын
@@georgesalamon8128 not sure if you or your dealer but one of you are confused? mix ratio 40 parts gas to 1 part oil or 50 parts gas to 1 part oil, the more parts of gas there is in relation to the oil the less oil is contained in the mix. secondly in a 2 stroke engine the fuel oil mix goes through the crank case before ever getting to the combustion chamber.

your finger wants some teeth on it weld a bar on it with sharp teeth on it if that dont work the backhoe is to weak to lift logs
@hardworkingmanoutdoors8 күн бұрын
Thanks Bob that is the plan.

How do you like that cut it oil heath? I’ve had a few gallons but I’m not sure if i like it better than the 55 gallon drum.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors8 күн бұрын
So far I like it. But still on first gallon.

When I purchase a new saw I fill the tank half way and let it run out. Then I go full throttle. It was very hard for me to watch you run that backhoe! Sorry! 😂

Oh it’s tough for me too lol. Check out tomorrow morning’s video and you’ll see who I’m comparing myself to.

!!!!They have the biggest kindergarten anti tamper carburetor, ive ever came across!!!! . When i finally got a jet to turn, it turnd 1/8 of a turn, and thats it. because it has stops on the adjusting jets, not just a special tool to turn em. Needless to say its a awesome saw, after the painful process of modifying it and getting passed all the kindergarten BS..
@iffykidmn817012 күн бұрын
dry wall screw takes about 10seconds to cure the kindergarten blues.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors11 күн бұрын
Yeah I’m excited and they’ll be removed/modified when ported.

Dude tighten up your chain and use proper personal protective gear hard hat ear plugs and safety glasses
@hardworkingmanoutdoors11 күн бұрын
Watch the whole video it’s all addressed. And I do have custom molded earplugs in the whole time.

You keep going on and on about chain stretching but when you run a loose chain to long it’s bad for the bar bad for the sprocket bad for the chain catcher !!!!! So your worrying about the one thing that’s disposable and not the parts that cost a fortune to replace
@hardworkingmanoutdoors12 күн бұрын
Fair enough. The cost of making content. I will usually let the saw cool and adjust more frequently but had limited time available to shoot this video.
