Why a Travel Guitar might be good for you (Blackstar Carry-On ST)

There is a case specifically for this that also can be bought with it. The expensive version (NON ST) with the coil tapped pickup and better tuners etc (but around twice the price) I THINK might come with it.

I got the white one. I paired it with the boss waza air earphones. Use it to pass the time when waiting for clients in my car which is a mini cooper. Lol

Love my white Carryon, been playing it all across Europe while on trips. As for the rig - mine came with Blackstar Headphone amp - I was super skeptical but it’s a very decent thing and you can’t beat the size. Spark Go is great when I’m tired of headphones. If I’m up to something louder - Boss IR-2 covers all clean and dirt tones + basic reverb. Runs on basic batteries, has a headphone jack, can be used for direct to PA solution.

@@kolinzein thanks for the feedback 🙏 the more expensive version comes with some nice extras, the ST is just the guitar unfortunately, i didn't think of the IR-2, good call, the Pod express could be an idea too, or maybe otherwise nux amp academy (i think it runs on batteries) quite a few options it seems, I'll keep an eye on the used market in case something cool comes up

Hey Paul. I have a Hofner Shorty modded with a tex mex single coil. I always take my Spark GO with me and some guitar friendly headphones.

ah nice, i remember seeing those at some point, i like the idea of a full scale neck (or at least 21/22 frets) on a travel guitar but it does increase the size to some extent, i used to own a steinberger spirit way back when, not sure why i sold that one off i'll be looking at the spark GO and others, i've got my eye on a Nux mighty plug pro at the moment, it seems like it can do a lot, and can plug it into a bluetooth boombox if needed or headphones, i quite enjoyed even just playing the blackstar unplugged, but riffs don't sound the same without some kind of distortion 😄

@paulbradshawguitar yeah the shorty isn't the best guitar but perfectly adequate for noodling on vacation. I have to say I love my spark go. Tried using it with the band but I found the ground level compression annoying for clean tones. Again though on vacation it's difficult to fault. I don't notice the compression without the band to compete with

Travel guitar is the problem nobodys ever had, but the industry keeps trying over and over to solve. Its a dumb toy.

@@Ottophil i understand what you mean, but in my case at least it's helped cures that itch when travelling, after looking a bit more there's quite a market it seems for all things travel orientated (foldable/headless etc..), with a price tag to boot, but therein lies the difficulty i think, how much people are willing to spend on something that will maybe get light usage during the year at best and how they're perceived I'm not sure where a steinberger would fit for example as it's certainly small enough to travel with but with full size neck/specs, to each their own in any case

Idk about that, there’s been loads of times I’ve fancied playing guitar on holiday but not enough to warrant spending the ludicrous amount airlines charge to bring an instrument on board

@@crystalneth994 that is definitely a factor, luckily for me the blackstar fits in my bag that i can check in for hold luggage, if i had to pay extra costs for taking stuff on board that'd put me off for sure
