Why a Used Mercedes is Cheap (And I Bought One)
I've learned a few things as of late because I bought a used Mercedes Benz. I purchased a CLA 250 from Mercedes and we're enjoying it, especially because I bought it used and therefore got a great deal.
Let me teach you why #Mercedes #Benz is so #cheap when you buy it #used, and how it became a really good buy for me.
We are always looking for supercars and supercar products to test, drive, and review, so if you would like to see your car, or product on our channel, please contact exoticcarplayplace@gmail.com

@Raschaud Farmer I've only owned USA cars, but I've always done all of my own work on them. With that said, Japan makes the best vehicles in my opinion. Particularly Honda and Toyota. Sadly, they've both changed their cars a lot to be more like American cars( Civic for example, is now practically a mid-size car when it was so much fun as a compact). Also they've gotten harder to work on vs. the 90's versions. I've often considered getting a German car, but I'm worried about parts costs and relibability.

I agree with most of what you said. The problem with used Mercedes (and Audis and BMWs) is that they are no longer engineered or built to run to 100,000 miles or more. Mercedes knows that most customers will lease and want to replace their cars after 3 years. So 3 years is their target for reliable operating life. After that, maintenance costs and problems quickly escalate, to the point where a 5-year old Mercedes may be uneconomical to run or fix. A common problem area is electronics and computers. A modern Mercedes will have dozens of specialized sensors and computers that tend to fail after a few years and are prohibitively expensive to replace--especially since Mercedes is the only source to buy them from. I've seen Mercedes where the body, engine and mechanicals are still in mint shape, but fixing the broken electronics would cost more than the car is worth. If you must get a used Mercedes, try to get a classic model from before 2000, when the cars were still engineered and built to a high standard and the electronics were fairly simple. Of course, it won't have most modern tech features. If you decide to buy a cheap late-model used Mercedes, than it is essential to get some kind of warranty on it. Otherwise, a single expensive repair could turn your "great deal" into a losing proposition--you might even end up selling it for parts as totaled. I'd also recommend getting a C-Class or E-Class and avoiding AMG models. The CLA is built cheaply and doesn't deliver the level of luxury, quality and driving performance that a Mercedes buyer would expect. The S-Class, CLS or SL are all very complex and are guaranteed to be troublesome and expensive. And AMG models usually lead a hard life and are more likely to suffer from engine and mechanical problems than regular models.

That may be true but I think the reason for switching to plastics is to reduce the weight of the car, and thereby improving the chances of survival of a vulnerable road user such as a pedestrian or cyclist in the event of a crash. I am sure that MB can use all metal components just like some super cars use composites in theirs. But as i mentioned above, to improve the safety they might have had to resort to other lighter materials.

Right now German makes are getting some credit for past quality while cutting costs and sticking customers with temporary engines. Thats about expired, people are stanting to understand that a $200K Merc will lose 90% of its value at warranty expiration because quality is currently non-existant.

No it doesn’t. We’re not talking about POS Ford or Chevy here. The demographics of people who go with brands like Mercedes is way different. It is often people with more expendable income that either lease or trade in their used model for a newer model with new tech.

@@gabrielsandoval7331 But normal people with less disposable income also lease them as you can see in the video. Those cars in the parking lot aren't unobtainable for mere mortals. People also lease other brands do they can have the newest tech. Ford or Chevy will cost you half of what the German competition would as for if they had similar models. Let's take the CLA as an example. I have a 2019 Hyundai i30 Fastback N. A comparable model would be the CLA 250. If i wanted the same stuff my fully loaded car has for 38k € i'd be knocking at 55k € for an entry level Benz because they will take an arm and a leg for every extra item. Even keyless access and a rear parking camera cost 1k € extra here....i mean wtf for that base price shouldn't it be included? They are a luxury brand after all.

And for the record, I know a lot of Ford and Chevy owners that have more money in the bank than a lot of Mercedes owners.

Advice is spot on - well done video. I bought a 2014 E63S AMG when it was 2.5 years old and had 23k miles on it. I paid HALF what the sticker price was, and the car was practically new. Only thing it needed was one new tire. Best part was I was the third owner, and it was previously sold as a CPO, which means the warranty was extended another year to 5 years or 100k miles, and it was transferable to me, but I didn’t pay a CPO price as I bought it from a Cadillac dealer (2nd owner traded it in on a new Escalade). Four years later, I still have the car, and now that I’m out of warranty I am a bit nervous about something breaking that I can’t fix myself. But, so far, so good. I would do another purchase like this again, and would never buy one of these cars new. Only other comment I would add is the advice in this video is applicable to BMW and Audi in the same way.

I've only had 3 car brands in my life. When I began driving at age 16, I drove three consecutive Mercedes Benz's (my grandfather bought the vehicles as he wanted to be certain I drove a "safe" car, as he put it) for the initial 12 years of my car driving history. For my fourth car, I switched to a Honda Accord. This occurred during my first winter in Canada when I moved up North from Southern California for graduate program studies. Even with snow tires, my 500 SEL just did not get along with packed snow and ice on the ground, especially where a small hill was concerned. It only took my first spinout, before I switched to a front wheel drive Honda Accord. Besides having much better traction in Canadian winter conditions, the quality and reliability of the Honda was an awakening. When I returned home to Orange County, I moved onto a second Honda Accord which served me as well as the previous Accord. I eventually needed a larger vehicle over the second Accord, and settled on my first SUV - the all wheel drive Lexus RX (which worked great for road trips up to Canada in the winter). Since then, it's only been Lexus, (though I could probably live fairly easily with Acura too). The quality and reliability of the vehicles, as well as customer service, is just a step above at Lexus. It shows very clearly in the higher residual/resale values at trade in time. Mercedes needs to do their homework, and practice constant due diligence - this is what keeps Lexus at the top.

When I was in the market for a new car, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, were all on my list, as well as Genesis G70. 1st vehicle that I eliminated from my list was the Audi( which I love the styling), problem, didn't offer rear wheel drive only. 2nd and 3rd vehicles removed from my list, BMW and Mercedes. Even though I was in a new vehicle, it still felt like I was in an old vehicle. The body style of these vehicles hadn't changed much in several years (2019 model year). Especially the Interior of the BMW, nothing has changed other than twirl your finger to raise and lower volume to your radio. I just couldn't justify spending the extra money on a new vehicle that felt old. Because of their reliability issues, I couldn't justify purchasing a used Mercedes or BMW. When it came to the Genesis G70, only issue most people had was with the entertainment screen, which didn't bother me. After 20 months of ownership and over 48K miles driven and no issues, I know that I made the right decision. I still enjoy the Mercedes and BMW'S. I'm a Genesis Lover ,who given the right situation, may cheat on her with a Mercedes 😉

The window motors are so weak they don't even raise the windows and they get stuck. The only way to get em all the way up is to grab the edge and widdle and now I just leave em up. Also the battery died and the radio quit working even after i replaced the battery, you have to take it to the dealer just to make the radio work again. Would I buy one, ah hell no.

As long as you are proactive and do all of the recommended services, MB are as dependable as my 1985 Corolla back in the day. On the c320 I only had some trouble with the automatic shift module, too expensive and dificult to could it new, unless I had it fixed ay a MB dealer, this issue was a big a pain until I fixed it up by my self and now works fine. Totally agree with your report in regard to build quality - brands like Mercedes and BMW rely on their legacy to continue selling ‘premium’ vehicles despite the noted lower build quality now as they chase profits by using cheaper labour and inferior materials ala Chinese steel and plastics. Massive repair/service costs for these brands are only appealing to those who can afford them or as I’ve noted here in Australia which are owned by ‘developing nations’ drivers who yearn for status symbols instead of practicality which I totally understand. Even Subaru of which I’ve owned nine have become less premium and use the flawed CVT transmission which apparently consistently fails between 60000-100000kms. - John in SA

Having owned a S Class I can say that it was unbelievably unreliable considering the asking price. Problems with air suspension and transmission on a car with 50k miles is appalling. Lexus from now on. Shame on you Mercedes.

Let me say this , I've worked at several car auction facilities on the east coast ... The Mercedes is one of the high end car brands I would never touch unless it was from a certified pre owned dealer ... What usually happens is this , people buy those cars and can't really afford them , so when things go wrong with them , they never get them fixed ... By the time they get to a auction house to be sold , they're nothing but a money pit !

My main drawback, is that while Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi, etc.. build great cars and can be bought at a greatly reduced used price. But once it needs routine service after the 3-5 year old trade in rate. You get a "cheap" premium car that needs $5000 right off the bat in addition to purchase.

I owned a bunch of them, they never let me down. Only one I had problems with was an SL 550, hydraulic suspension gave me some trouble but other then that the cars treated me well.

@@bpaige12 I never bought a new Mercedes, I wouldnt buy any car new from a dealer even if I was a millionaire. I cant bring myself to reason of why a new car drops dramatically in price as soon as it leaves the dealers lot, it goes from 50 grand brand new to 35 grand with a few thousand miles on it. Makes no sense to me to buy any car new. As for the Mercedes I have had, 2 ML 320’s, both neither gave me any trouble, one was 4 years old when I bought it. 90 300SL, was 6 years old when I bought it, no trouble at all. Top worked great, 91 500SL, that car did need work, I bought it needing work, 95 SL500, never put a dime in it, 99 SL500 worked excellent, no money ever put in it, was 5 years old when I bought it, an old 88 300E, worked great, no money ever put into it, never left me down, was about 8 years old when I bought it, 07 SL550, was 10 years old when I bought it and was warned about the suspension on those before I bought it, didnt listen and found out the hard way, replace many parts, when I finally had the car perfect, 2 weeks later a dominos pizza driver tee boned me and the insurance company totaled it. At the present I dont have a Mercedes. But many times I feel like buying another one. They always started and never left me along the roadside ever.

Great upload Mark. Agree with you, yes buy a slightly older car with low mileage and a good spec. In my experience try to keep hold off it as long as you can then move onto another upgraded vehicle, rather than changing vehicles quite so often, unless you are running them through a business or something.

I’ve had my 2007 Mercedes for 14 years and have only had one problem with it for $1,800 and it’s been great. Never a recall. Granted I only have 57,000 original miles. When it starts giving me any problems, I will buy a Luxus.
