They have done this to many queer people on the Idol franchises in many countries. The idea is that they want the viewers to desire the contestants romantically and sexually and they believe that you are less desirable and less marketable to a wider audience if you come out :( so we miss out on so much queer representation. We could have had this amazing queer teen idol to look up to but producers thought it would make more money if tween and teen girls could picture themselves dating this teen heart throb Justin Bieber type clone :(
