As far as information available out there, it's not a "me too" incident. She clashed with Tommy Lee Jones and the studio wanted to recapture the dynamic between him and Wil Smith from the first movie so they sided with him. As far as her overall career, "Jade" and "Unforgettable" didn't set the box office ablaze back in 1996 and it made her radioactive much like Taylor Kitsch in the early to mid 2010s. Per Kevin Smith calling her "difficult to work with", he has since apologized to her after his major heart attack as she, surprisingly, is one of the people that actually reached out to him and see how he was doing.

I think it would have been better. Barry Sonnenfeld has gone on record saying he hated working with her. From what I understand, Linda Fiorentino wanted more direction on her character concerning motivation. Watching the movie, she doesn't get much to do nor is her character given much development. I'm not sure if she came from theater acting, or had a previous director who worked with her more about her performance.

“Difficult to work with” could mean a number of things in Hollywood when describing a female actor. Boss could’ve flirted with her and she wasn’t interested, could’ve just wanted equal treatment as her male co-stars. Hell, even the actress who played Vivian in Fresh Prince had a feud with Will, so it could’ve been Will.

As someone who loves the movies of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, I understand that both men can be difficult to work with (the first Aunt Viv in Fresh Prince and Jim Carey in Batman Forever both have spoken about having a hard time working with Smith and Jones). So that, plus Barry Sonnenfeld is a bit of a strange duck (read into that what you will), and what we know was going on with guys like Weinstein (who I wouldn't wager was alone in that) at the time and there's any number of possibilities as to what went wrong. I honestly would like to hear her side of the story, because we've never heard it to my knowledge.

I think she was a victim of Harvey Weinstein, along with many 90s starlets who somehow just disappeared like Mira Sorvino, Rosanne Arquette, and Annabella Scorria. An actress who wouldn't give it up to him at one time or another would be labeled as "difficult to work with" and see her opportunities dwindle or disappear entirely.

@latayesha Tommy Lee Jones is a made man in Hollywood after toiling for years as a character actor (anybody remember him playing second fiddle to Gary Busey in a Steven Seagal movie - "Under Siege"?); and has a reputation for being difficult to work with ever since he won his Oscar for "The Fugitive". That opened the door to him making more money with his roles in "Men In Black" and "Batman Forever" where he gave Jim Carrey all kinds of grief while on set simply because he didn't like him. So, if he suggested the same concerning Linda Florentino being hard to work with, I would have a hard time believing him since he has no credibility.

Fiorentino got into arguments with Tommy Lee Jones and the director Barry Sonnenfeld during shooting of Men in Black. Then she went to do Kevin Smith's film Dogma where she got into arguments with Smith who was the writer/director. Afterwards she trashed Smith in interviews. After that she did a Kevin Spacey film where she allegedly clashed with Spacey and the director, then to a Paul Newman movie where AGAIN rumors where that she was very difficult to work with. That was a 4 movie run where she was allegedly combative, arrogant, and entitled on set. Then the opportunities dried up. She intentionally or unintentionally destroyed that career on her own.

Men in Black II was a pretty weak sequel, but it wasn’t in the same category as Highlander II (Theatrical Ver.) or Terminator Genisys, and it’s certainly better than most of the schlock that Steven Seagal turns out these days. As bad as it was, believe it could have been far worse. Men in Black II catches flack because there was no excuse for it to be that bad. The film had a talented cast of actors, a large enough budget to produce respectable special effects and the script should have never been approved. With all that in mind, it could have ended up like that horrible Matthew Broderick Godzilla movie from the 90’s

They should have made a connection like in movie 3 with Jagger. Something like Dennis Rodman wanted to mate with Earth women, and took L to mediate between Earth and his planet.

I doubt that by itself ended her acting career. Sounds like she was actually just hard to work with.

Nah. If Harvey weinstien decided you were "difficult to work with" after not letting him rape you, he would inform multiple studios and directors that they had to claim the same.

I mean she was a half hearted love interest for J and dance she was essentially replaced by Rosario Dawson being a love interest I'm cool with that since her role would've been nothing. Though the reference to her wanting to go back to the morgue is an interesting one since it reveals some people who join the MIB can't handle it. And why their vetting process is important.

at least she wouldn't make it as bad as Men in black international. she's a female character that could had a very relevant role and her character had an explanation for how she found the MiB and why she is skilled. (and it would leave a chance for Will Smith to take the role of a mentor)

It would have been a short cameo, at the time it would have been a step down for. I understand. Co-star to cameo is not the direction actors try to go

L would have been great in the sequel. If she appeared, that is. If not, then Salma Hayek would have been great in the role.

Yes: 'a sequel' that 'continued where the previous film left off' probably would have made a better movie than 'an inferior redo' that 'reverted the happy ending of the previous one, not as the central plot, but just to make a redo possible' It doesn't take an opinion on either K or L to reach this conclusion.

It's understandable. 90% of the appeal of Men In Black was the dynamic between J and K. That said, by the end of the film that dynamic is over - J is a full-fledged agent and no longer a rookie. Part of me wishes J and L had been given a chance to potentially be just as entertaining with a different dynamic.

They had two options, keep her and take the franchise in a different direction than it went in; or bring Tommy Lee Jones back. They made the right choice.

If there was a Men In black 5 it would make sense for L to have a bigger role maybe she Frank the pug and the worm guys can join J and K on this mission instead of staying behind they might have to recast L if they ever bring her back

It would have been better, just because an actor is difficult doesn't mean much to me as some of the best are. Her character was well written and I was disappointed with her missing. I love Tommy, but he could have retied and the show would have went on in MIB2/3.

Dont know how many times they shot the scene but the bit in the mortuary when the bug is under the table and shes trying to alert J the acting is so stilted and forced, like, not even in a way thats applicable to the scene it just comes off as two actors who had no chemistry and really didnt get along.

As much as I liked the franchise, this is getting into alternative universe shenanigans. If the writers had changed the dynamic, perhaps the performance of the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th movies would have changed or not.
