I loved my time there last year! I spent a about 6 months there for a reason. It was safe and the people are fabulous. I can't wait to go back later this year and search out more of those bunkers..

In another case of the marketplace converting swords to plowshares, my dad used to have an office in an old Nike Ajax missile base. All the launchers were gone, but the ammunition bunkers were still there. A couple of businesses converted some of the bunkers to office space. As a kid, I was absolutely fascinated.

I just wanted to say thank you for making this video, I feel that a lot of people who talk about communism always skip over Albania. My parents and their families suffered under this paranoid piece of shit. He killed off so many people not just directly but indirectly as well as a result of his poor economic decisions. My dad lost his father when he was just a teenager from poor medical care, and he himself starved throughout his whole life. I can never understand how people support communism. Until they see the suffering and pain and just in general the horrible quality of life it brings to people maybe then they will understand.

Everyone seems to think that they can do it better or properly or something. The surprising part is how often they get enough people to go along with them. 😢🤔🤓🍻

The more experience you have with actual communism, the more you oppose it. Or, the less experience you have with actual communism, the better you think it is. Of course, real Marxists claim that communism has never been implemented, but we can claim that real capitalism has never been implemented either, so it's a nullity.

So you're saying they weren't used for anything during the communist years? Finland also has a bunch of bunkers but most of them are being used. If invasion is actually likely, having subsidies to build reinforced basements might be a good idea.

Unfortunately it's starting to look like the world may be in need of bunkers in the not too distant future!!!

1 million bunkers for 3.2 mil Albanian of Albania and the 1.5 mil of Kosovo Albania prepared for 1991 they got 40% of population military prepared and they got a bunker for refuge of every Albanian (similiar as Swiss today ) so Albania got a very strong defense and probably to build today in 2024 a bunker will cost from 5000-7000$ so concrete + iron + labour work etc will need just one bunker to cost about 5-7K$ today and Albania build 800,000-1 mil so a lot of money 😮

I visited Albania it is a Fantastic mix of greek/roman/Ottoman and Enver Hoxha ...ruins ! Thoses bunkers about 500 000 because they didn't reach target of 700 000 are EVERYWHERE . Go visit "bunk'art" muséums !!! And look everywhere while traveling they even extracted petrol !! Because Hoxha disagreed with Tito, and Kroutchev and even Mao !! Since they were not enought STALINISTS 😂 !! Poor Alabania finally after about 600 year under hawfull Ottoman felt in dictature ( Hoxha 1945-86) and had only 1912-1939 quite good Mehmet Zogu, (King ZOG) as "normal" times. Plz look at Albanian history totally incredible. It explains also mafia grouth with end of super-communism. ( happened everywhere but albania is best exemple)

As an albanian born and raised in the capital of Albania, Tirana and having lived the first 12 years of my life in communism, i have to say that communism is the worst thing invented by human species. Today, when i see pictures from North Korea, it reminds me of Albania during my childhood years!!

I traveled to Albania in 1995. The very first thing I noticed was the bunkers scattered across the countryside. You can hardly throw a rock without hitting one, ( no, not really ). Yes, some were being utilized back then and more today, but they are a first class eyesore! Albania is the most backward country I’ve ever been to. It’s a place where nodding your head up and down actually means “no”, and moving you head side to side means, “yes”. It took me a little while to figure that out, and when I did, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Artwork was hard to find and buy as a souvenir. It was very common to see people drive around the capital city in carts pulled by donkeys. These people were dirt poor. I think it’s better today as capitalism takes shape. I know people from Eastern Europe who drive to Albania on vacation. They say it’s a poor mans Greece. It’s not anything like Greece except for the climate, which is quite nice. Albania could have progressed with the west had they not embraced a crazy socialist and socialism. Instead they chose rampant poverty and weakness! They chose poorly. The world can learn a thing or two from Albania. Never ever get sucked into the vacuum of socialism. It will suck the life out of every country that tries the experiment,… as history has shown time and time again. It’s a futile attempt to rectify injustice. It will not work. It cannot work. It will never work!! To all democrats,.. give it up!!!!!!!
